The Surface Laptop 3 and MacBook Air have precision-cut metal chassis with a minimalist design. Iconic logos adorn their lids in reflective chrome, providing the only disruption from empty metal surfaces. Both laptops have gently rounded corners, while the Surface Laptop 3 has a sloped back side.

That includes a 256GB SSD and a Full HD 1920 x 1080-pixel screen. The mother of all amazing (and expensive) crazy gaming laptops, the Asus ROG Mothership is one of a kind in so many ways (starting with its $5,499 starting price).


Its bright, colorful 17.3-inch display sits in the half of the Mothership that would appear to be the underside, the 8-pound section of the beast contains the majority of its internals, while the 2.6-pound bottom half contains the keyboard. We also saw excellent performance out of its 2.4-GHz Intel Core i9-9980HK processor, 64GB of RAM, 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 GPU. Performance alone makes this one of the best Asus laptops.



The Asus ProArt StudioBook Pro W700G3T is an absolute stunner, from its elegant design to its vivid 17-inch, 16:10 display. The StudioBook Pro's panel hit 162% of the sRGB color gamut and emitted 292 nits of brightness. In terms of performance, its Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 GPU blasted through the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark with a score of 186,292, sailing past the workstation average (178,833). It also has a comfortable keyboard paired with decent battery life.

Our gold MacBook Air and sandstone Surface Laptop 3 look so similar that they'd be side by side on the same makeup palette. I prefer the pale pink of the Surface Laptop 3 over the more saturated copper color of the MacBook Air. Don't get me wrong, both shades are gorgeous. That being said, the Surface Laptop 3's matching keyboard is a better look than the black keyboard on the MacBook Air, which clashes with the copper deck.



At 12 x 8.4 x 0.6 inches and 2.8 pounds, the MacBook Air is smaller and a tad lighter than the Surface Laptop 3, which comes in at 12.1 x 8.8 x 0.6 inches and 2.9 pounds.This round goes to the MacBook Air for its more practical and portable design, as much as I prefer the aesthetics of the Surface Laptop 3.


The Surface Laptop 3 has a 13.5-inch, 2256 x 1540 touch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is slightly taller than the 13.3-inch, 1080p display on the MacBook Air. These laptops have bright and vivid screens, but the Surface's touch screen panel gives it a slight edge.

Das Tech-Magazin "ZDNet" geht davon aus, dass es sich dabei um einen mit dem Streaminganbieter Netflix abgestimmten Werbegag handelt. Am 4. Juli startet nämlich die dritte Staffel der 80er-Jahre-Serie "Stranger Things".


Für die These spricht ein Twitter-Video, in dem sämtliche Windows-Logos der vergangenen Jahrzehnte bis zu den Anfängen des Betriebssystems nacheinander abgespielt werden. Neben Microsoft ließen sich auch andere Marken wie Nike, Schwinn und Coca Cola zu einer ähnlich nostalgischen Werbeaktion überreden.


Bei einigen Nutzern von Windows 10 kann es derzeit zu Verbindungsproblemen kommen, wenn eine VPN-Verbindung aktiviert ist. Microsoft hat den Fehler auf seiner Seite bestätigt – und zeigt, wie er sich beheben lässt.

Dabei informiert der Rechner darüber, dass der Dienst Remote Access Connection Manager (RASMAN) beendet wurde. Der Fehler tritt seit dem Update KB4497935 für das Mai-Update auf. Zudem sollen nur Nutzer betroffen sein, die ihr VPN-Profil auf "Always on" gestellt haben. VPN steht für Virtual Private Network. Die Taskleiste neben dem Start-Menü von Windows ermöglicht schnellen Zugriff auf häufig genutzte Anwendungen. Wir erklären, wie Sie das Tool auf Ihre Bedürfnisse zuschneiden.


In der Windows-Taskleiste nisten sich bei einer Windows-Neuinstallation zahlreiche Anwendungen ein, die Microsoft für praktisch hält. Mit wenigen Klicks können Sie die Icons aber austauschen und andere Elemente an ihre Stelle setzen. So geht's:



Klicken Sie mit rechts auf eine freie Stelle in der Taskleiste.

In dem Kontextmenü können Sie bereits mehrere Schaltflächen aktivieren oder deaktivieren (zum Beispiel "Kontakte" oder "Windows Ink-Arbeitsbereich").

Unter "Symbolleisten" können Sie verschiedene Schnellzugänge aktivieren.

Mit "Link" legen Sie ein Lesezeichen aus der Favoritenleiste an.

"Desktop" aktiviert ein Kontextmenü für alle auf dem Desktop abgelegten Elemente. Dadurch müssen Sie offene Fenster in Zukunft nicht erst minimieren, um darauf zugreifen zu können.

Die Symbolleiste "Desktop" hat außerdem den Vorteil, dass man darüber die Systemsteuerung direkt aufrufen kann. Auch die Windows-Bibliotheken und Nutzerordner werden hier aufgelistet.



Um störende Elemente aus der Taskleiste zu entfernen, gehen Sie so vor:

Kann ein Blitzeinschlag meine Festplatte unbrauchbar machen?

Ja. Wärmegewitter sind eine Gefahr für die ganze Haushaltselektronik und damit auch für Festplatten. Ein Blitzeinschlag kann zu einer Überspannung im Stromnetz und damit zum Blackout der gesamten PC-Hardware führen. Statistisch gesehen ist die Gefahr eines Gewitterschadens durch Überspannung eher gering, allerdings können die Auswirkungen im Schadensfall verheerend sein.


Auch ein Stromausfall nach einem Gewitter ist laut Bindig eine potenzielle Gefahr, da dann die Schreib- und Leseköpfe unregelmäßig herunterfahren. Defekte Netzteile können aus dem gleichen Grund zum Problem werden.


Spezielle Steckdosenleiste schützen

Die einfachste Regel hierbei lautet: Sobald ein Gewitter naht, die ganze Elektronik ausstecken – auch sonstige Leitungen wie Netzwerk- und Telefonleitung. Das verhindert bereits an der Quelle die Gefahr einer Überspannung.


Wer auf Nummer sicher gehen will, kann in eine Steckdosenleiste mit Überspannungsschutz und Erdung investieren. Schon günstige Modelle (ca. ab 15 €) sind mit einer jahrzehntelangen Garantie zu haben. Sollte man also trotz der Verwendung des Produkts einen Gewitterschaden haben, übernimmt der Hersteller sämtliche Schäden. Teilweise ist auch eine Versicherung bereits im Kaufpreis enthalten.


Helfen Methoden wie eine interne Kühlung der Festplatte oder SMART-Programme gegen einen Festplattenkollaps?

Wer sich gegen die Hitze schützen möchte, kann auch zusätzliche Lüfter an der Festplatte einbauen lassen. Diese sollen dafür sorgen, dass die Festplatte bis auf die Umgebungstemperatur runterkühlt. Deren Bedeutung wird aber laut einer Studie von Google namens "Failure Trends in a Large Disk Population" überschätzt. Und auch Bindig meint: "Bei einer normalen Festplatte ergibt das weniger Sinn."


"SMART" (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) sind im Netz verfügbare Programme zur Überwachung der Festplattentemperatur oder anderer Komponenten. Bei Problemen oder Fehlern senden sie Warnhinweise. Bindig: "Man kann damit im Blick haben, ob Anomalien auftauchen, und dann reagieren." Die Google-Studie relativiert auch ihre Bedeutung: Sie sollen zwar einige, aber lang nicht alle Probleme rechtzeitig entdecken können.



Die Richtzeit für die Lebensdauer einer Festplatte liegt laut Bindig bei fünf bis zehn Jahren. Diese Zeit verkürze sich aber stark, wenn die Festplatte sehr oft benutzt oder transportiert werde, etwa im Rucksack oder auf dem Fahrradgepäckträger. "Das hatten wir auch schon." Ein Austausch alle drei bis vier Jahre sei zu empfehlen. "Das sind Verschleißteile wie beim Auto."


Am Dienstag hat Microsoft die Zwangsaktualisierung für alle Windows-Nutzer mit älteren Versionen gestartet. Wer es bisher nicht installiert hat, soll bald das Mai-Update 2019 auf dem Rechner haben.


Am Dienstag verkündete Microsoft auf seiner Website, dass Systeme von Nutzern mit älteren Windows-Versionen auf das Mai-Update 2019 von Windows 10 aktualisiert werden sollen.


Von der Zwangsaktualisierung sind vor allem Nutzer betroffen, die noch das April 2018 Update auf ihrem Rechner installiert haben. Hintergrund ist, dass der Support für Windows 1803 am 12. November 2019 ausläuft. Um die Sicherheit und Funktionsweise der Rechner zu gewährleisten, sollen diese und ältere Systeme durch das neue Windows 1903 ersetzt werden.

Auf seiner Website schreibt Microsoft, dass sowohl Nutzer der Home- als auch der Pro-Version von Windows 10 das Update um bis zu 35 Tage verschieben können. Ob ihr System für eine Aktualisierung bereit ist, wird automatisch ermittelt. Nutzer können das Update auch manuell starten. Wie das geht, erklärt diese Fotoshow.

Gehen Sie auf "Suchmaschinen verwalten". Dort finden Sie ein paar der beliebtesten Suchmaschinen aufgelistet. Um eine davon als neuen Standard festzulegen, klicken Sie rechts neben dem Link auf die drei Punkte.Sie haben unter anderem die Wahl zwischen DuckDuckGo, Bing, Yahoo oder Ecosia. Sie können sogar die Suche von t-online.de zu Ihrem neuen Standard machen. Bei der nächsten Suche in Chrome werden Ihnen dann passende Artikel auf unserer Seite angezeigt.

Direkt unter dem Menüpunkt "Suchmaschine" finden Sie den Punkt "Beim Start". Darin haben Sie die Auswahl zwischen drei Optionen: Es wird ein leerer Tab geöffnet, es werden Ihre zuletzt geöffneten Seiten wiederhergestellt oder Sie wählen eine Seite aus, die sich jedes Mal beim Start des Browsers öffnen soll.


Um zum Beispiel t-online.de zu Ihrer Startseite zu machen, klicken Sie auf den Punkt neben "Bestimmte Seite oder Seiten öffnen". 1. Zustand des MacBook-Akkus überprüfen


Auf dem Mac kann man den Zustand des verbauten Akkus selbst überprüfen. Es gibt sogar zwei Möglichkeiten herauszufinden, wie es um den Akku bestellt ist, wie viele Zyklen er bereits hinter sich hat und wie hoch die aktuelle Kapazität ist.

Klickt man mit gedrückter ALT-Taste auf das Akku-Symbol in der Menüleiste, bekommt man grob den Status des Akkus angezeigt. Steht hier Zustand: Normal, ist alles in Ordnung.

Letztere verbraucht mehr Strom als jene des Prozessor, ist aber natürlich auch leistungsstärker. Normalerweise wechselt OS X automatisch und selbstständig zwischen diesen zwei Grafikkarten hin und her, ohne dass der Nutzer etwas davon mitbekommt.

Manche Programme erzwingen die Verwendung der dedizierten Grafikkarte aber auch dann, wenn es eigentlich gar nicht notwendig wäre.


Mit Hilfe eines flachen Gegenstands, zum Beispiel einer Plastikkarte, könnt ihr nachhelfen.

Beim Auseinanderziehen kann es stellenweise knacken.

Große Fortschritte gibt es beim Zubehör. Beim ersten iPad Pro vor drei Jahren bot Apple eine externe Tastatur mit US-Layout an. Vorausgesetzt natürlich, dass Mobilgerät verfügt ebenfalls über eine Klinkenbuchse.


Testsieger in dieser Kategorie: Die 310 Euro teuren Kopfhörer von Bang und Olufsen "Beoplay H8i", die knapp 34 Stunden laufen. Das Modell "Crusher Wireless" von Skullcandy hält mit einer Laufzeit von 61 Stunden zwar am längsten durch, kann aber nicht mit seinem Tragekomfort überzeugen und kommt nicht an die Soundqualität vom Testsieger ran.

Die kleinen Knöpfe für 281 Euro sind in dieser Kategorie damit Testsieger.


Wegbereiter Apple mit seinen Airpods erhält die Note 2,1. Ihr Sound ist nicht mit dem von Sennheiser zu vergleichen, doch die Airpods für 175 Euro punkten mit einer Akkulaufzeit von fünf Stunden. Zudem sind sie in einer halben Stunde komplett aufgeladen.

Die Mehrheit der befragten Leser von Stiftung Warentest war mit ihren Geräten zufrieden. Insgesamt würden 90 Prozent ihr Smartphone, 85 Prozent ihren Fernseher und 83 Prozent ihren Laptop weiterempfehlen.



Dennoch gab es ein paar Kritikpunkte und Überraschungen - insbesondere was die Marken hinter den Multimediageräten betrifft.
Die erste große Überraschung liefert der chinesische Handyhersteller Xiaomi. Bei der Befragung von Stiftung Warentest zur Zufriedenheit gaben 97 Prozent der Nutzer an, ihr Xiaomi-Smartphone weiterzuempfehlen. Damit landet Xiaomi zwar nicht auf Platz eins in Sachen Kundenzufriedenheit, etabliert sich aber im oberen Bereich - und das mit weit günstigeren Geräten, als die Konkurrenz.

Je nach Gerät und Anwendung können es auch nur fünf bis sechs Stunden sein. Wer dann neue Energie braucht, holt sie sich aus der nächsten Steckdose.


Wo es die nicht gibt, braucht es kreative Lösungen. Eine Auswahl:Der Zigarettenanzünder im Auto ist kaum noch als Raucherutensil, sondern in Verbindung mit einem Ladeadapter vielmehr als Stromlieferant für Smartphone, Navi und Co gefragt. "Dabei ist es wichtig, auf die richtige Kapazität zu achten", sagt Wiebke Hellmann vom Fachmagazin "Chip". "Wenn der Output nicht mindestens ein Ampere beträgt, dauert das Laden ewig." Das Kabel am oder zum Adapter sollte zudem hochwertig und nicht als billige Spirale ausgeführt sein.


Auch das Notebook kann als Energiespender fürs Handy dienen, insbesondere wenn es noch voll geladen ist: "Ein Smartphone braucht etwa zwei Amperestunden bei fünf Volt", rechnet Bernd Schwenke von der Stiftung Warentest vor. Das bedeute, dass eine Komplettladung nicht mehr als zehn Wattstunden des Notebook-Akkus kostet - typische Laptop-Akkus hätten etwa 50 bis 80 Wattstunden.



Populär und günstig sind zudem mobile Zusatzakkus, auch Powerbanks genannt. Manche kosten weniger als 10, nur wenige mehr als 30 Euro. Einige sind nicht größer als ein Feuerzeug, andere so groß wie ein Smartphone und etwas schwerer. "Mit den kleinen Zusatzakkus lässt sich ein Smartphone nur einmal, mit größeren vier bis sechs Mal laden" sagt Projektleiter Schwenke, der für die Stiftung Warentest kürzlich 20 der mobilen Stromspeicher getestet hat.


Powerbanks taugen auch über einen längeren Zeitraum als mobile Notreserve: "Nach 28 Tagen war in allen Akkus noch genug Energie, um ein Handy zu laden", berichtet Schwenke. Allerdings gelte dies für neue Powerbanks. Nach drei bis vier Jahren müsse man damit rechnen, dass ihre Leistung nachlässt oder dass sie kaputt gehen. Das könne auch passieren, wenn eine Powerbank kaum genutzt wird: "Auch längere Nichtaktivität ist für Batterien Stress", erläutert der Elektroingenieur. "Zu viel laden ist schlecht, zu selten auch."


Solarzellen hält Schwenke eher für eine Notlösung: "Nach sieben Stunden im gleißenden Sonnenlicht" seien beim Test eines Solarzellen-Laders weniger als 600 Milliamperestunden (mAh) geflossen, der Akku eines durchschnittlichen Smartphones also weniger als ein Viertel gefüllt. Bei bedecktem Himmel sei die Bilanz noch schlechter: "Es gibt eine große Linearität zwischen Intensität des Lichts und der Strommenge, die ich entnehmen kann."



Mit rund 30 Euro lagen die beiden untersuchten Solar-Lader zudem im oberen Preissegment der Testgeräte. Dennoch seien Anwendungszwecke denkbar: "Wenn sie die Solarzelle bei einer Wanderung im Sonnenlicht auf dem Rucksack liegen haben und nur telefonieren oder SMS verschicken", könne der Ladezustand eines damit versorgten Mobiltelefons etwa konstant gehalten werden, sagt Schwenke.


Dynamolader, die mit oder ohne Pufferakku zwischen Nabendynamo und Smartphone gehängt werden, sind indes eine Lösung für Fahrradfahrer, die ihre Muskelkraft gleich auch noch in Energie fürs Handy umwandeln möchten. Wenn das Handy auf dem Campingplatz entladen ist und man eine halbe Stunde zum Bäcker fährt, sei anschließend durchaus schon wieder ein kurzer Anruf drin, erklärt Warentester Schwenke.

Defragment your hard drive on a regular basis. If you run Windows 7’s Disk Defragmenter program every couple of weeks, your drive will spend less time spinning around looking for data.

Replace your hard drive with an SSD. Because they have no moving parts, SSDs use less power than hard drives. They also don’t need to be defragmented.

Add more RAM. Going from 2 to 4GB or 4 to 8GB of RAM should allow your computer to use less virtual memory and more physical memory, which means fewer hard drive accesses.

Das Surface Pro macht trotz seiner kompakten Form nur wenige Kompromisse. Leistung und Alltagstauglichkeit lassen keine Wünsche offen. Das Convertible ist leicht und leise und hält mit einer Akkuladung deutlich länger durch als sein Vorgänger - hier hat Microsoft ordentlich nachgebessert. HP's Spectre x360 is back and sexier than ever, sporting a gorgeous Dark Ash Silver paint over its aluminum hood. To top off its design, its 13.3-inch, 1080p display blasted us with 150 percent of the sRGB color gamut, and the keyboard comforted us with a tactile 1.4 millimeters of travel. Not to mention that its battery lasted an epic 12 hours and 7 minutes on our tests.
