"Das Problem dabei ist natürlich, dass es nur eine endliche Zahl von Grafikkarten und Chips gibt, die auf dem Markt sind", führt Fischer aus. "Die Hersteller AMD und Nvidia produzieren festgelegte Mengen, die vorher genau kalkuliert und an der Nachfrage orientiert werden." Die riesige Nachfrage habe dazu geführt, dass die Karten teurer wurden und ihre Verfügbarkeit deutlich abnahm.


Doch Kryptomining trägt nicht die alleinige Schuld an der Verteuerung. Wie Fischer erklärt, habe sich zudem einer der beiden größten Grafikkarten-Hersteller quasi selbst ein Bein gestellt: "AMD veröffentlichte im August 2017 eine neue Grafikkartenserie namens Radeon RX Vega. Diese Karten haben eine besondere Speichertechnik namens High Bandwith Memory (HBM), die die Speicherchips nicht mehr nebeneinander anordnet, sondern übereinander stapelt, was die Leistung der Karten erhört."


Das sei zwar eine spannende Technik, aber die Hersteller von HBM-Speicher konnten nicht so schnell produzieren, wie es für die Massenproduktion dieser AMD-Grafikkarten notwendig gewesen wäre, erklärt Fischer. "Insgesamt hatte das zur Folge, dass beispielsweise die Grafikkarte Radeon RX Vega 56 für einen Preis von 400 Euro angesetzt wurde." Tatsächlich liegt der Einstiegspreis nun aber bei 620 Euro – 55 Prozent mehr also. "Und da ist auch nicht absehbar, dass das deutlich billiger wird", so Fischer weiter.


Dass es zu einfach wäre, die Gründe für die Verteuerung der Grafikkarten allein aufs Kryptomining zu schieben, denkt auch Alan Priestly vom Marktforschungsunternehmen Gartner. Er verweist etwa auf die Weiterentwicklung von Computerspielen, die zunehmend höhere Anforderungen stellen: "Die Auflösungen steigen, die Bildschirme werden größer, die angezeigten Bilder pro Sekunde schießen in die Höhe. Um das ordentlich darzustellen, braucht man leistungsfähige Grafikkarten – und die sind nun mal teurer als die alten Modelle."


Trotzdem kann sich etwa Martin Fischer durchaus vorstellen, dass die Preise der Grafikkarten wieder sinken, wenn das Kryptomining an eine unweigerliche Grenze stößt: "Die Frage ist, wie es mit dem Ethereum-Kurs weitergeht. Bei Bitcoin war der Schürfenthusiasmus anfangs sehr hoch, und irgendwann hat die Leistung der Grafikkarten nicht mehr ausgereicht, damit man lohnend Bitcoins schürfen konnte, weil die Berechnungen immer komplexer werden mussten, um neue Einheiten zu finden. Das wird bei Ethereum ähnlich sein."


Bis es so weit ist, rät Marktforscher Priestly: "Greifen Sie wenn möglich tief in die Tasche und kaufen Sie direkt das leistungsfähigste Modell, das Sie sich leisten können. Das ist zwar teuer, so haben Sie aber auch eine Grafikkarte mit möglichst hoher Halbwertszeit."



Martin Fischer vom Fachportal "Heise Online" empfiehlt Spielern, wegen des Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnisses derzeit eher auf Grafikkarten des Herstellers Nvidia zu schauen: "Wenn Sie in Full HD spielen, also mit normaler Fernsehauflösung, dann kommen Sie mit einer Geforce GTX 1050 TI oder einer GTX 1060 gut weiter. Die 1050 TI schafft es ganz ordentlich, Full HD anzuzeigen, vielleicht nicht mit kompletter Detailstufe, aber damit fährt man preis-leistungstechnisch sehr gut."


Wer bereits im Bereich der 4K-Auflösung unterwegs ist, muss entsprechend tiefer in den Geldbeutel greifen. "Wenn Sie jetzt mit voller Detailstufe die Spiele wiedergeben wollen, dann müssen Sie schon mit 600 Euro rechnen", sagt Fischer. Das wäre dann zum Beispiel die Geforce GTX 1080 oder 1080 TI. "Wenn Sie auf einige Details verzichten können, dann empfehle ich die GTX 1070, eine Alleskönnerkarte, die momentan aber auch noch um die 450 Euro kostet."

Die US-Regierung hat für Donnerstag ein Treffen mit führenden Technologie- und Industriekonzernen zur Zukunft der Künstlichen Intelligenz (KI) angekündigt. Bei dem eintägigen Treffen solle über Forschung, Innovation und einen Abbau von Hindernissen bei der Anwendung von KI gesprochen werden, hieß es am Dienstag in einer gemeinsamen Ankündigung von Industrie und Regierung.

Wer dennoch weiterhin mit einigen Add-ons Probleme haben sollte, kann in der Browser-Konfiguration vorübergehend die Zertifikats-Prüfung für Erweiterungen deaktivieren. Dazu tippt man "about:config" (ohne Anführung) in die Adresszeile und setzt dann beim Eintrag "xpinstall.signatures.required" den Wert von "true" auf "false".


Nach einem Browser-Neustart funktionieren die Add-ons dann wieder, es wird aber weiter eine Warnung angezeigt. Diese sollte man ernst nehmen und nicht vergessen, den Wert wieder auf "true" zu setzen. Denn die Zertifikatsprüfung von Erweiterungen ist ein wichtiges Sicherheitsfeature.Was passiert mit meinen Daten? Diese Fragen haben sich auch viele Microsoft-Kunden gestellt. Der Windows-Konzern reagiert und will nun mehr Überblick geben – und auch mehr Kontrolle.


Microsoft will seinen Kunden schneller und einfacher einen Überblick über Daten geben, die der Konzern von ihnen sammelt. In einer Mitteilung schreibt das Unternehmen, dass sich besonders europäische Kunden als Folge der Datenschutzgrundverordnung (DSGVO) besorgt über gesammelte Daten gezeigt hätten. Als Reaktion darauf möchte Microsoft über drei Zugänge seinen Kunden mehr Transparenz und Kontrolle über ihre Daten geben.


Daten sollen kategorisiert werden

Zunächst sollen die gesammelten Daten in zwei Gruppen eingeteilt werden: notwendige (required) und optionale. Notwendige Informationen braucht Microsoft, damit Produkte wie das Betriebssystem Windows oder Office-Software richtig funktionieren. Darunter fallen etwa Begriffe bei Suchanfragen, aber auch Geräte-IP und -typ.


Optionale Daten sollen zur Produktverbesserung genutzt werden. Microsoft Produkte werden jedoch voll umfänglich funktionieren – unabhängig davon, ob Kunden der Sammlung von optionalen Daten zustimmen.
Microsoft will außerdem besser dokumentieren, welche Daten für Produkte gesammelt werden – und in welche Kategorie die Informationen fallen. Zudem soll die Dokumentation für Kunden auch einfach zu finden, aber auch einfacher zu verstehen sein.



Wer Windows 10 nutzt, erhält mit dem Windows Defender einen kostenlosen Virenschutz. Bisher wurde das Programm von Testern regelmäßig für gut befunden. Doch jetzt erhält der Windows Defender erstmals die volle Punktzahl im Test von "AV-Test".


Das Programm konnte Tester dabei in puncto Schutzwirkung, Geschwindigkeit und Benutzbarkeit überzeugen. Im Test entdeckte der Windows Defender dabei alle von den mehr als 2.000 eingesetzten Bedrohungen. Auch Falscherkennungen blieben aus. "AV-Test" nutzte dafür mehr als 1,5 Millionen Samples. Die Tester stuften den Windows Defender darum als "Top Product" ein.


Getestet wurde dabei die Windows-Defender-Version 4.18. Insgesamt testete "AV-Test" 20 Antivirenprogramme. Ebenfalls volle Punktzahl erhielten die kostenpflichtigen Produkte von Norton, Kaspersky und F-Secure. Not only can this eventually damage the inside of the battery permanently, but it also wears the battery out with a bunch of chemical reactions that aren’t necessary, but burn through a battery’s lifespan anyway.


Today’s lithium-ion batteries are durable, but they can only take so much heat. For example, if you are charging your battery and it starts to get overly warm, perhaps because the CPU or graphics processor is working hard or the environment is overly hot, then shut the device down and pop the battery out if possible. Give it a break so that it can cool down or you can move to someplace with a lower temperature. Many modern laptops have sealed batteries, in which case shutting the machine down and letting it cool is highly recommended if maximizing the battery’s lifespan is your concern.



Likewise, keep the laptop off of your lap. If testicular damage and discomfort weren’t good enough reasons, then with many machines you’re also making the problem worse by blocking vents. You’ll want to make sure that both vents that pull in cool air and those that expel hot air are able to do their jobs.


Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you should avoid placing your laptop anywhere it might become hot. That includes your car on a hot summer day, beneath a window that gets direct sunlight, or near a space heater. Unusual conditions such as these can do a lot of damage to a battery in a short period of time, though you may not realize it immediately.

Do you need a second screen for your smartphone? Probably not, but somebody made one anyway. It’s pretty straightforward. The Castaway, as it’s called, is basically a tiny chromium tablet that’s tucked into a smartphone case. Künstliche Intelligenz krempelt die Welt wie einst die Dampfmaschine um. Maschinen lernen selbst und sind teilweise besser als menschliche Spezialisten. Das soll auch bei der Verbesserung der humanitären Hilfe helfen.



Flucht, Angst, Hunger quälen die kleinen Kinder seit Tagen, und dann kommen auch noch Fremde, die sie am Arm packen und das Messband anlegen: für Flüchtlingskinder ist die erste Begegnung mit Helfern oft zusätzlich traumatisch. Doch der Armumfang wird in Krisengebieten millionenfach vermessen, um festzustellen, wie unterernährt die Kinder sind und welche Hilfe nötig ist.


Künstliche Intelligenz soll den Kleinen das künftig ersparen und gleichzeitig viel schnellere und akkuratere Erhebungen möglich machen. Wie dies und andere Ideen die humanitäre Hilfe revolutionären können, zeigen Erfinder und Experten diese Woche bei der Konferenz "Künstliche Intelligenz für gute Zwecke" in Genf, die bis zum 17. Mai geht.


Das Unternehmen Kimetrica in Kenia hat ein Programm entwickelt, das den Grad von Unterernährung bei unter Fünfjährigen anhand von Fotos mithilfe computergesteuerter Gesichtserkennung ermitteln kann. "Es wurde schon erfolgreich mit Erwachsenen getestet, jetzt füttern wir das Modell mit Körpermessungen aus Kenia und Fotos, um es richtig zu trainieren", sagt die Kimetrica-Direktorin in Kenia, Anita Shah.



Die Innovationswerkstatt des UN-Kinderhilfswerk Unicef unterstützt das Projekt. Außerdem wird etwa im Irak getestet, ob Satellitenbilder Aufschluss über den Grad der Armut in einer abgelegenen Region liefern können. Die Computerprogramme könnten etwa auswerten, wie viele Leute elektrisches Licht haben, aus welchem Material Dächer sind, ob beim Haus Vieh gehalten wird.


Eine andere Überlegung ist, ob man aus der Mobiltelefonnutzung etwas über Armut oder Dürre ableiten kann. Zum Beispiel, wie oft Telefonkarten aufgeladen werden, ob mehr SMS geschickt oder Gespräche geführt werden, ob das von Dorf zu Dorf verschieden ist, wie lang Gespräche sind und wie groß das Netzwerk der Kontakte ist.

Um Datenverlust vorzubeugen, sollten PC-Nutzer den Zustand ihrer SSD-Festplatten im Auge behalten. Hersteller-Tools helfen, diese zu warten. Experten raten zu einem Backup auf einem externen Medium. Die Speicherbausteine in SSD-Festplatten sind nicht für unendlich viele Schreib- und Löschvorgänge ausgelegt. Nutzer sollten deshalb den "Gesundheitszustand" ihrer SSD im Blick behalten, um im Extremfall nicht alle Daten zu verlieren.


Sehr gut geeignet, um den Zustand permanent zu prüfen, sind die Wartungsprogramme der SSD-Hersteller, berichtet "Computerbild.de". Anders als Allround-Wartungs-Tools seien diese Programme optimal auf die SSDs des jeweiligen Herstellers abgestimmt und böten weitere Features – etwa das Freigeben von Speicherplatz oder SSD-Firmware-Updates.

Allerdings gelte auch mit installiertem Hersteller-Wartungsprogramm: Datensicherung bleibt Pflicht – idealerweise auf einer externen klassischen Festplatte mit rotierenden Magnetscheiben.


Internetriese Google plant offenbar die Einführung eines neuen Betriebssystems. "Fuchsia" soll in fünf Jahren an die Stelle von Android treten. Dabei soll auf Sicherheit und Sprachsteuerung gesetzt werden.


Ein Google-Team entwickelt laut Kreisen eine komplett neue Software, die auch als Ersatz für das dominierende Smartphone-System Android gedacht ist. Das Betriebssystem mit dem Namen "Fuchsia" solle auf allen möglichen Geräten vom Notebook bis zu vernetzten Sensoren einheitlich aussehen, schrieb die Nachrichtenagentur Bloomberg am Donnerstag unter Berufung auf informierte Personen.



Derzeit entwickelt Google zwei Betriebssysteme: Android für Mobilgeräte wie Smartphones und Tablets sowie Chrome OS für Notebooks. Android führt beim Smartphone-Absatz mit einem Marktanteil von über 80 Prozent. Erst am Mittwoch verhängte die EU-Kommission gegen Google eine Rekord-Wettbewerbsstrafe von 4,34 Milliarden Euro, weil der Internet-Konzern bei Android eine marktbeherrschende Position missbraucht habe.

"Die Anforderungen der Kunden haben sich in den vergangenen drei Jahren dramatisch geändert", sagte Microsoft-Manager Markus Nitschke der dpa am Montag. "Die Kunden wollen die volle Funktionalität - vielleicht nicht gleich am ersten Tag." Ein isolierter Cloud-Dienst sei deshalb für viele schließlich doch nicht praktikabel gewesen. Wie viele Kunden diesen Dienst aktuell nutzen, nannte Microsoft nicht.


Das Treuhänder-Angebot gemeinsam mit der Deutschen Telekom stellt Microsoft deshalb komplett ein, wie das Unternehmen auch in einem Blogeintrag mitteilte. Über zwei weitere Rechenzentren in Frankfurt und Berlin sollen die Cloud-Angebote künftig an das internationale Netzwerk angeschlossen sein und den vollen Funktionsumfang bieten. Die Daten verbleiben auch dort in Deutschland.


Ende 2015 hatte der Softwarekonzern vor allem auf die NSA-Affäre reagiert und den Service einer "deutsche Cloud" aufgebaut. Dabei fungiert die Telekom als Treuhänder, so dass Microsoft selbst in der Regel keinerlei Zugriff auf die Daten der Kunden hat. Das Unternehmen hätte auch bei Forderungen amerikanischer Behörden somit keine Daten aushändigen können.


Microsoft hatte in einem viel beachteten Verfahren versucht, der US-Regierung den Zugang zu in Irland gespeicherten E-Mails zu verweigern. Der Fall landete vor dem Obersten Gerichtshof, der den Fall aber zu den Akten legte. Die Richter verwiesen darauf, dass es aus ihrer Sicht mit dem neuen "Cloud Act" keinen Konflikt mehr gibt.


Das Ende März in Kraft getretene Gesetz sieht vor, dass amerikanische Online-Firmen US-Ermittlungsbehörden grundsätzlich Zugang zu Daten eigener Bürger gewähren müssen, auch wenn sie außerhalb der USA gespeichert sind. Zugleich können sich die Firmen dagegen wehren, wenn es um Bürger anderer Länder geht oder dadurch Gesetze anderer Staaten verletzt würden. "Diese Verpflichtung trifft für uns weiter zu", sagte Nitschke. "Wir geben keine Daten unserer Kunden heraus."



Das Angebot einer deutschen Cloud sei zunächst attraktiv gewesen, viele Kunden hätten dann aber wegen der Beschränkungen mehr Interesse an einer allgemeinen, internationalen Cloud gehabt, sagte Nitschke. Den vertraglichen Verpflichtungen der Bestandskunden werde Microsoft jedoch weiter nachkommen.


Der Datentreuhänder Deutsche Telekom will die sichere Cloud-Lösung für Bestandskunden in Deutschland weiter managen. "Vorausschauend auf die bevorstehenden Änderungen in der Microsoft-Strategie hat die Deutsche Telekom ein Service-Portfolio aufgebaut, das unseren Kunden die Möglichkeit gibt, auch weiterhin besonders sichere Cloud-Umgebungen zu nutzen", teilte die Telekom mit.

Bei dem sogenannten "Windows 10 Oktober 2018 Update" handelt es sich um die sechste große Aktualisierung für das Betriebssystem. Im April erschien das fünfte Update genannt "Red Stone 4".



Das Oktober-Update soll viele Neuerungen in allen Bereichen enthalten. Beispielsweise wird die Zwischenablage erweitert. Wie "PC Welt" berichtet, können Nutzer in Zukunft mit der Tastenkombination "Windows-Taste + V" eine History aufrufen. Die zeigt zuletzt hinzugefügte Inhalte wie Texte, Bilder und Co. Nutzer können diese wieder auswählen und auch anpinnen. So werden sie nicht mehr von der Zwischenablage gelöscht. Zudem können Nutzer die gespeicherten Inhalte mit anderen Geräten synchronisieren.

Sure, you might scrunch your face at the awkward sight, but the iPad's larger screen (compared to your phone) makes it a better device for everything from email to streaming movies and browsing the web. However, we recently pitted the last-gen GTX 1080 against the RTX 2080 and found that the latest card is a welcome improvement over its predecessor. Its badass name isn't just relevant to its form factor, but its power as well. It's armed with a Core i9-9850HK processor and an RTX 2080 GPU. It tore through Rise of the Tomb Raider (Very High, 1080p) at 86 fps. Its 1080 panel wasn't overly saturated and delivered warm, realistic color, while the Mothership's island-style keyboard felt nice and offered good spacing. Of course this beast is one of the best RTX 2080 gaming laptops.

Its panel clocked in 438 nits of brightness and 243% of the sRGB color spectrum. Here is everything we know about the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha, including its price, features and availability. Like its more premium relative, the Alpha model has a flexible aluminum chassis that folds into a tablet or into tent mode for viewing content. The Book Flex Alpha's design looks fairly ordinary, but diamond-cut edges should give it a regal flair, while a fingerprint sensor built into the keyboard will save you time and protect your sensitive data.



We're bummed, however, that the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha will only be available in Royal Silver in the U.S., and not the gorgeous blue you can get on the Galaxy Book Flex.Samsung hasn't said anything about built-in Qi wireless charging on the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha, so that could be another cost-cutting measure Samsung made to bring the price down. We wouldn't mind too much if that gimmicky feature was left out. A bigger loss is the stylus slot (Active Pen sold separately) found on the Galaxy Book Flex but not the Alpha version.


The Galaxy Book Flex Alpha is an ultra-portable laptop, measuring just 0.55 inches thick and weighing in at 2.6 pounds. We've reviewed lighter laptops, but you shouldn't have any problem slipping the Book Flex Alpha in your bag and taking it on trips. On the right side of the laptop are two USB 3.0 ports and a microSD card slot while the left side houses a USB Type-C input, an HDMI port and a headphone/mic jack. We wish there was a Thunderbolt 3 connection but not everyone needs super-fast transfer speeds or to connect to multiple 4K monitors.



Samsung is bringing the technology it uses on its high-end TVs to the Alpha's display. The Alpha has a 13.3-inch, 1080p QLED panel that Samsung claims can produce more than one billion colors and get up to 600 nits in brightness. QLED, which stands for quantum dot LED, has several advantages over the standard LED displays you find on most laptops. As Samsung's TVs prove, QLED is typically brighter and more colorful than LED. While you shouldn't expect the same black levels or contrast ratios as OLED, the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha's QLED screen should have vibrant, accurate colors and be bright enough to use outside on a sunny day.

You can find good cheap Windows laptops and high-quality Chromebooks for under $500. However, better mainstream laptops usually cost more than $700 and premium Ultrabooks can run over $1,000. The best gaming laptops can cost $2.000 and up, but you can play the latest titles at decent frame rates on gaming laptops under $1,000.


Knowing a laptop's screen size tells you a lot about its portability overall. If you want to use your computer on your lap or carry it around a lot, go for one with a 12, 13 or 14-inch display. If you want to use the computer on tables and desks and won't carry it around much, a 15-inch model may give you more value. Some gaming rigs, media machines and workstations even have 17 or 18-inch screens, but those are hardest to carry.


More and more of today's laptops are 2-in-1s with screens that either bend back 360 degrees or detach so you can use them as tablets. If you like the idea of using your laptop in slate mode for drawing, media consumption or just using it standing up, a 2-in-1 could be for you. You can spend a lot of time delving into specs, but here are the key components to think about. If you just want really good mainstream performance, go for a Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 1080p screen.Screen Resolution: Unfortunately, 66 percent of consumer laptops and 51 percent of business systems have low-res screens. If at all possible, get a display with a 1920 x 1080 (aka 1080p or full HD) or higher resolution.



CPU: An Intel Core i5 provides good mainstream performance. Some budget systems will come with Core i3, Celeron or Pentium CPUs which are good enough for basic tasks, but not heavy mutltiasking. Get a Core i7 or a quad core processor (serial number ends in HQ or HK) for gaming or high-end productivity tasks such as video editing and 3D modeling.

RAM: 8GB is ideal for most users. 4GB is acceptable for budget systems. Secondary laptops and Chromebooks may have less.

Storage: Unless you're a gamer or a power user, 256GB of internal storage is probably enough. If at all possible, get an SSD (Solid State Drive) rather than a hard drive, because it's going to make your entire computer a lot faster.


Graphics Chip: Gamers and creative professionals need to do some research and figure out which discrete GPU is good enough to run their favorite software. Everyone else will be happy with the built-in Intel HD Graphics that come on the CPU.

Anschließend verlassen Sie das BIOS und speichern dabei Ihre Änderungen.


Windows-Start analysieren

Sie können sich über die Windows-Ereignisanzeige in den Startvorgang Einblicke geben lassen. Geben Sie dafür in der Suchmaske im Startbereich "Ereignisanzeige" ein. Dort klicken Sie sich über die Ordner "Anwendungs- und Dienstprotokolle", "Microsoft" und "Windows" zur "Diagnostics-Performance" durch, wo Sie anschließend "öffnen" anklicken. Dort suchen Sie die Ereignis-ID 100. Scrollen Sie zu "Startdauer" herunter, Sie bekommen üblicherweise in Millisekunden die Länge des Startvorgangs angezeigt.


Apps deinstallieren

Ein vollgemüllter PC ist eine typische Ursache für Startschwierigkeiten. Programme, die man nicht mehr braucht, zu entfernen, hilft daher immer. Suchen Sie in Ihrer Suchmaske nach "Apps & Features", dann finden Sie eine Liste all Ihrer installierten Programme. Klicken Sie eine App an und gehen Sie auf "deinstallieren", um sie zu entfernen. Das funktioniert allerdings nur mit Programmen, die nicht von Windows vorinstalliert sind.


Auf jeden Fall sollten Sie auf Ihrem PC den Schnellstart aktivieren, wenn dieser noch nicht aktiviert ist. Dafür gehen Sie in Ihre Systemsteuerung. Dort gehen Sie auf "Hardware und Sound" und anschließend auf "Energieoptionen". Dort finden Sie den Unterpunkt "Netzschalterverhalten ändern". Im anschließenden Fenster prüfen Sie, ob "Schnellstart aktiviert" markiert ist.



Energiesparmodus/Ruhezustand

Sie können das Ärgernis eines langsamen Starts aber auch einfach vermeiden, indem Sie den Rechner gar nicht erst komplett herunterfahren und stattdessen in den Energiesparmodus oder den Ruhezustand schalten. Aus diesem Modi erwacht Ihr Gerät schnell, und Sie können Ihre Arbeit genau wieder da aufnehmen, wo Sie aufgehört haben.

Viele gängige Treiber haben eine Schwachstelle, die Windows-Rechner angreifbar macht. Nutzer können wenig tun, um sich zu schützen. Die Entdecker des Problems werfen den Herstellern Schlamperei vor.


Die IT-Sicherheitsfirma Eclypsium hat auf der Hackerkonferenz DEF CON in Las Vegas eine neue Bedrohung für Windows-Rechner beschrieben. Demnach fanden die Forscher in der Treibersoftware bekannter Hardware-Hersteller wie Huawei, Intel, NVIDIA, Realtek und Toshiba einen Design-Fehler, der Windows-Systeme angreifbar macht. Insgesamt wurde der Fehler in 40 Treibern von 20 verschiedenen Herstellern entdeckt.


Treiber versorgen die Komponenten eines Computers unter anderem mit Firmware-Updates. Wie mehrere Medien von der DEF CON berichten, könnten Angreifer unsichere Treibersoftware aber missbrauchen, um sich durch bestimmte Funktionen erweiterten Zugang zum Windows-Kernel zu verschaffen, also dem Kern des Betriebssystems.


Forscher werfen Herstellern Schlamperei vor

Dies sei besonders beunruhigend, da alle von Eclypsium entdeckten mangelhaften Treiber von Microsoft bisher als "vertrauenswürdig" eingestuft und zertifiziert wurden. Allerdings seien sie laut Eclypsium nicht ausreichend gegen Attacken abgesichert.


Die Forscher werfen den Herstellern Schlamperei bei der Entwicklung und Programmierung vor. Millionen Rechner seien dadurch bedroht. Es gebe sogar mehrere Beispiele für Hackerattacken, bei denen ähnliche Treiber-Sicherheitslücken bereits erfolgreich ausgenutzt wurden. Im schlimmsten Fall wird das System auf BIOS-Ebene mit Schadsoftware infiziert. Dann hilft auch keine Windows-Neuinstallation mehr.



Bereits Updates vorhanden

Einige Hersteller haben auf die Entdeckungen von Eclypsium reagiert und Updates bereitgestellt. Nutzer sollten diese zeitnah installieren. Die Namen der übrigen betroffenen Hersteller werden noch zurückgehalten, bis die Sicherheitslücke geschlossen ist.

Microsoft sieht das Problem offenbar als weniger dringlich an. Um die Treiber-Schwachstelle ausnutzen zu können, müsste der Computer bereits mit Schadsoftware infiziert sein. Der Software-Konzern empfiehlt seinen Nutzern den Windows Defender, um sich gegen Hackerangriffe zu schützen und unsichere Treiber zu blockieren.


In vielen Edeka-Supermärkten finden sich derzeit wieder günstige Lizenzschlüssel für Microsoft-Produkte wie Windows 10. Das berichten das Computermagazin c't.Die Angebote unterbieten dabei die unverbindlichen Preisempfehlungen von Microsoft deutlich: So kostet ein Aktivierungsschlüssel für Windows 10 Pro 39,99 Euro statt 259 Euro. MS Office 2019 Standard gibt es für 195 Euro – diese Version steht Privatkunden normalerweise gar nicht zur Verfügung.


Laut "c’t" kaufen Kunden bei Edeka eine sogenannte Lizengo-Card und erhalten an der Kasse eine zwölfstellige PIN. Auf der Website von Lizengo erhalten Kunden über die PIN die gekaufte Software und einen Aktivierungsschlüssel.Auf Anfrage von "c’t" erklärte Lizengo, dass es sich bei den Schlüsseln um unbenutzte Lizenzen handele, die aus Überbeständen von Microsoft-Kunden stammten.



Im Test von "c’t" ließen sich die gekauften Produkte nahezu problemlos installieren und aktivieren. Wer dennoch Probleme mit seinem Schlüssel haben sollte, soll laut Lizengo einen neuen erhalten.
Auf Anfrage von "c’t" gab Microsoft keine eindeutige Auskunft darüber, ob das Unternehmen das Angebot von Lizengo als legal oder nicht bewertet. Der Konzern verwies aber auf Urteile des Europäischen Gerichtshofs und des Bundesgerichtshofs, die den Verkauf von Lizenzschlüsseln durch Lizengo nicht als illegal einstufen.


Allerdings kann Microsoft solche gekauften Aktivierungsschlüssel durch Updates blockieren. Die "c’t" rät Nutzern daher, den Kassenzettel aufzubewahren, um bei Lizenzproblemen innerhalb der Gewährleistungsfrist das Geld zurückverlangen zu können. Die Gewährleistungsfrist beträgt zwei Jahre.

"There's always this tension between design and the kind of acoustics and cooling and function of the console," Spencer told Gamespot, "and we were not going to compromise on function. While the console is daring in its simplicity, Microsoft made only minor updates to the next-gen controller. At first glance, the Series X controller looks identical to the one for the Xbox One. When Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Series X, it did so alongside the reveal of Senua's Saga: HellBlade 2, which became the first game officially announced for Xbox Series X. The footage shown at The Game Awards look absolutely stunning and was captured directly on the console in real-time.


There are no other confirmed titles, but we can speculate what is coming to the next Xbox based on the release dates of upcoming titles. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine was confirmed at E3 2019 then delayed until 2020-2021. Given the new release date, we'd be surprised if Rainbow Six Quarantine wasn't available on both current and next-gen consoles. The same goes for Gods and Monsters and Watch Dogs: Legion, both of which were delayed into 2020-2021.


Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated upcoming games, could also come to next-gen consoles. CD Projekt Red president Adam Kicinski said to VG247 last year, “The game is developed in such a way that it can use very powerful future equipment, but I can not tell you more beyond that today, as no future generation of consoles have been announced so far.That doesn't confirm anything, but it certainly suggests an intent to bring Cyberpunk 2077, which is set to be released on April 26, 2020, to Xbox Series X and the PS5.


EA confirmed that Dice will have extra time to make Battlefield 6, and that the upcoming first-person shooter would arrive on next-gen consoles. Specific consoles weren't named but we'd be shocked if the Xbox Series X wasn't one of them.
The next Xbox will not support virtual reality. While Microsoft has championed VR on PCs, the company is less keen about its place on consoles. Xbox lead Phil Spencer said an interview with Stevivor that "nobody is asking for VR" and that customers know to go to PC if they want to play VR.


He went on to say “nobody’s selling millions and millions [of VR units]...“I think we might get there. But yeah, that’s not where our focus is." if you want to play VR games on a console then buy a PlayStation 5 as Sony is expected to double-down on the budding technology with a PlayStation VR 2 headset. The AMD Navi GPU powering the Xbox Series X is expected to rival Nvidia's RTX 2080 GPU, which means it should be able to keep up with the best laptops when it comes to graphics performance.



Alienware's Area-51m gaming laptop played Rise of the Tomb Raider at 92 frames per second while the Asus ROG Mothership notched 84 fps at 1080p resolution on Very High settings.Unless the Navi GPU somehow blows the doors off the RTX 2080 powering those beastly gaming rigs (we doubt that), the Xbox Series X will need to dial down the settings to reach Microsoft's 4K at 60fps goal. Still, what Microsoft is claiming can't be ignored: the Xbox Series X will be crazy powerful and should offer better graphics-per-dollar than any gaming laptop on the market.


We already know exactly how the Series X looks about a year before it's set to launch. The console's simple rectangular "tower" design is reminiscent of a desktop PC. There really isn't much to the design, which is exactly why it's so bold. Microsoft is replacing the aggressive angles and odd shapes of previous consoles with a refined, clean aesthetic that follows the same design principles as its laptops.



On the front of the Xbox Series X is an illuminated Xbox logo and a disk slot, which will be a relief to folks who still buy physical copies. The top of the console is more interesting. Hiding under a centered top grille is a bright green circle. It's hard to tell from the reveal trailer, but it appears to be green LEDs or a painted component.


There is a heated discussion about the Xbox Series X's size. It looks massive in the renders but the folks at Gamespot say the console is three times taller than the new controller and about as wide. That makes the Series X relatively small, but still potentially problematic if you're trying to fit it in an entertainment center.

Streitpunkt ist, wie die Fahrer an ihre Aufträge kommen

Knackpunkt in dem Fall ist die Frage, wie Uber-Fahrer an ihre Aufträge kommen. Das Personenbeförderungsgesetz schreibt unter anderem vor, dass Mietwagenfahrer - im Gegensatz zu Taxis - nur Beförderungsaufträge ausführen dürfen, "die am Betriebssitz oder in der Wohnung des Unternehmers eingegangen sind".


Uber schreibt seinen Geschäftspartnern - also Mietwagenfirmen, welche die Uber-App nutzen - zwar vor, dass das Geschäft dementsprechend ablaufen muss. Das Gericht moniert in seinem Beschluss aber, dass ein Fahrer einen Beförderungsauftrag selbstständig annehmen könne, also unabhängig von einer Weisung aus dem Betriebssitz. Dies verstoße gegen das Personenbeförderungsgesetz, so der Gerichtsbeschluss.


Gericht entschied schon im Juli, Zustellung verzögerte sich

Das Gericht entschied bereits im Juli gegen Uber. Das Dokument konnte aber lange nicht an die Europazentrale des US-Unternehmens in Amsterdam zugestellt werden, daher die zeitliche Verzögerung - erst ab der Zustellung gilt das Verbot.



Die Verzögerung hat einen bizarren Grund: Wie eine Sprecherin des Kölner Landgerichts sagte, scheiterte ein erster Zustellversuch mangels einer Übersetzung des deutschsprachigen Dokuments. Die Ablehnung der Annahme sei formell zulässig, so die Sprecherin. Ob ein zweiter Zustellversuch inklusive niederländischer Fassung inzwischen geklappt habe, sei ihr nicht bekannt.


Uber kommentiert Gerichtsentscheidung bislang nicht

Die Firma wollte die Berichte über die Gerichtsentscheidung nicht kommentieren. "Sollte ein solches Dokument zugestellt werden, würde man dies natürlich prüfen", sagte ein Firmensprecher. Weitere Angaben wollte er nicht machen. Nach dpa-Informationen war Uber nicht in das Verfahren involviert und konnte sich nicht vor Gericht verteidigen. Im Beschluss heißt es, die einstweilige Verfügung sei "wegen der Dringlichkeit ohne mündliche Verhandlung und durch den Vorsitzenden anstelle des Prozessgerichts" erlassen worden.


Der Kläger ist Mitglied der Organisation Taxi-Ruf, für die rund 1100 Taxis in Köln unterwegs sind. Ein Sprecher der Organisation warf Uber vor, die Zustellung verzögert zu haben. Es sei ein Unding, dass die Firma noch immer die gerichtlich verbotene Uber-X-Funktion einsetze.



Neben Uber X hat die App des US-Unternehmens noch andere Angebote, die nicht verboten wurden - etwa die Vermittlung von klassischen Taxis, deren Fahrer mit der US-Firma zusammenarbeiten.
Schon seit Jahren streiten Uber und Vertreter der Taxibranche immer wieder vor deutschen Gerichten. Die Taxifahrer weisen darauf hin, dass sie gesetzliche Vorgaben einhalten müssen - etwa die Beförderungspflicht auch bei kurzen Strecken. Auch daher wäre es unangemessen, wenn die Uber-Konkurrenten durch eine Liberalisierung des Marktes freie Bahn bekämen, argumentieren sie.


Der Dienst Uber Pop, bei dem Privatleute in ihren Autos Passagiere gegen Entgelt herumfahren konnten, wurde schon vor einigen Jahren verboten. Mit Uber X unternahm die Firma einen neuen Anlauf, um in Deutschland Fuß zu fassen - Mietwagen, die über diese App-Funktion vermittelt wurden, sind inzwischen in Großstädten wie Berlin, Düsseldorf und Köln unterwegs.

Die Lösung einer solchen Aufgabe wird in diesem Feld "Quantum supremacy", also Quanten-Überlegenheit bezeichnet. Und genau diesen Nachweis will Google nun erbracht haben. In einem Artikel für das renommierte Wissenschaftsmagazin "Nature" beschreiben Googles Forscher, dass ihr "Sycamore" getaufter Quantenprozessor eine Testaufgabe in gerade einmal 200 Sekunden löste – ein aktueller Supercomputer hätte für dieselbe Aufgabe 10.000 Jahre Berechnungszeit benötigt, schreiben sie.

In einem Computer kann die kleinste Informationseinheit Bit entweder den Zustand "An" oder "Aus" oder besser gesagt "1" oder "0" annehmen. Ein Quantum-Bit oder Qubit kann hingegen auch einen Zwischenzustand annehmen, eine Superposition.


Unterschied zwischen Bits und Qubits

Es hat dann gewissermaßen gleichzeitig den Wert "1" und "0". Verkoppelt man mehrere dieser Qubits miteinander, wächst der Raum der gleichzeitig erkundbaren möglichen Lösungen exponentiell. Wenn man 333 Qubits miteinander verbinde, komme man auf eine Zahl von 1,7*10100 Berechnungszuständen, die in diese Superpositionen versetzt werden könnten, rechnet Google-Chef Sundar Pichai in einem Blogeintrag vor. Eine Eins mit 100 Nullen, diese Zahl heißt im Englischen auch "Googol", sie ist Namenspate für die Suchmaschine.


Googles Forschern gelang es, 53 Qubits zu einem Rechner zu verbinden. Schon das reichte für die Rekordrechenleistung. Allerdings ist dies nur unter höchstem technischem Aufwand machbar. Quantencomputer funktionieren aktuell nur im Vakuum und im Temperaturbereich nahe dem absoluten Nullpunkt.


Auch Pichai gibt zu, dass es noch "viele Jahre" dauern werde, bis Quantencomputer tatsächlich für eine breitere Zahl von echten Anwendungen eingesetzt werden könnten.Konkurrent IBM – dort forscht man ebenfalls an Quantencomputern – behauptet derweil, dass die durchgeführte Rechnung auf einem Supercomputer nicht 10.000 Jahre, sondern nur zweieinhalb Tage dauern würde. Google nutzte bei der simulierten Berechnung nur den Arbeitsspeicher des Supercomputers, nicht aber dessen Festspeicher, um Zwischenergebnisse zu speichern, erklärt IBM.



Was könnten Quantencomputer in Zukunft leisten?

Klar ist aber: Die Fortschritte sind deutlich erkennbar, Quantencomputer könnten in absehbarer Zeit Wirklichkeit werden. Allerdings werden sie nur in bestimmten Bereichen sinnvoll einsetzbar sein. Schon jetzt scheint aber absehbar zu sein, dass etwa gängige Verschlüsselungsverfahren dann nicht mehr sicher wären.So brauchen herkömmliche Computer zwar noch Jahrtausende, um heutige Verschlüsselungen zu knacken, Quantencomputer könnten das hingegen in Augenblicken erledigen.


Immerhin, auch an quantenfesten Verschlüsselungsalgorithmen wird bereits gearbeitet. Paavolainen took a 2013 Apple Retina MacBook Pro, with screen brightness set to 50 percent, and used Google Chrome (with Adobe Flash Player disabled) to visit major English-language websites, including Forbes, New Scientist, The Guardian, The New York Times, Google, YouTube and the BBC, while recording the power draw while displaying each site.


He found is that low-power sites (consuming around 10 watts), which included Google, Forbes and the BBC, drew less than one-quarter of the power sucked down by high-power sites such as that of The New York Times, which Paavolainen measured at just under 50 watts -- not much less than an ordinary incandescent light bulb.
