Akku für Samsung AA-PB9NC6B powerakkus.com Apple steht kurz davor ein neues 4 Zoll iPhone zu präsentieren, doch die Gerüchteküche spekuliert weiter wild über das im Herbst erwartete nächste iPhone-Topmodell. Jetzt macht im Netz ein neues Foto die Runde, auf dem die Gehäuserückseite des vermeintlichen iPhone 7 zu sehen sein soll. Falls die Aufnahme authentisch ist, stehen im Vergleich zum iPhone 6s nur nuancierte Design-Veränderungen an.Nachdem in den letzten Wochen bereits eine Reihe von Spekulationen rund um die nächste und sogar die übernächste iPhone-Generation im Netz kursierten, ist nun ein Foto aufgetaucht, das erstmals einen Eindruck vom neuen Chassis-Design des vermeintlichen iPhone 7 geben soll. Laut Nowhereelse.fr wurde die Aufnahme in einem Werk von Apples Zulieferer Catcher gemacht und zeigt die Rückseite des kommenden iPhone-Modells.Wie meist bei solchen Fotos lässt sich derzeit nicht verifizieren, ob es tatsächlich authentisch ist. Falls es sich bei dem Objekt darauf aber um eine Komponente des iPhone 7 handelt, können dadurch ein paar Rückschlüsse auf die neuen Design-Ansätze und Ausstattungsmerkmale des Smartphones gezogen werden. Auffälligster Unterschied zur Chassis-Konstruktion des iPhone 6 beziehungsweise iPhone 6s wäre demnach die veränderte Unterbringung der Antennenstreifen im Gehäuse. Während diese bei den Vorgängern deutlich sichtbar quer über die Rückseite verlaufen, sind sie beim iPhone 7 offenbar direkt in den oberen und unteren Gehäuserand integriert. Nowhereelse.fr hat freundlicherweise auch gleich ein Render-Bild erstellt, das zeigen soll, wie das fertige Gerät auf Grundlage dieser Erkenntnis aussehen könnte. Ein weiteres Detail, das auf dem geleakten Foto ins Auge sticht, ist die Aussparung für das Kameramodul. Diese fällt größer aus als beispielsweise beim iPhone 6s und rückt etwas näher an den Gehäuserand. Außerdem wird in der Bildbeschreibung erwähnt, dass das Gehäuse etwas dünner sei als beim aktuellen Topmodell - wobei aber keine exakten Maße genannt werden - und dass das iPhone 7 wie schon seit längerem spekuliert keinen 3,5 Millimeter Kopfhöreranschluss zu bieten habe. Älteren Meldungen nach soll dies dem besonders schlanken Chassis und dem Einsatz von Stereolautsprechern geschuldet sein. Einen wirklich überzeugenden Beweis dafür gibt es aber nach wie vor nicht.Alles in allem kann festgehalten werden, dass trotz jeder Menge Berichte wirklich verlässliche Informationen zum iPhone 7 derzeit noch Mangelware sind. Sofern sich das Foto von Nowhereelse.fr aber als echt herausstellen sollte und Apple das Gehäuse-Design bis zur offiziellen Präsentation nicht mehr grundlegend verändert, würden die visuellen Unterschiede zwischen iPhone 7 und iPhone 6 beziehungsweise 6s sehr gering ausfallen. Google feiert den ersten Geburtstag des Google Stores mit einer Rabattaktion für das Nexus 5X und das Nexus 6P. Beide Android 6.0 Marshmallow Smartphones sind somit erneut für einen begrenzten Zeitraum mit einem Preisnachlass von 80 beziehungsweise 100 Euro erhältlich. Zusätzlich gesteigert wird die Anziehungskraft der aktuellen Nexus-Geräte durch ein neues, leistungsverbesserndes Update.Google sorgt derzeit nicht nur mit der ersten Android N Developer Preview für Aufsehen, sondern feiert auch den ersten Jahrestag der Eröffnung des Google Stores mit einem temporäreren Preisnachlass auf seine aktuellen Smartphones Nexus 5X und Nexus 6P. Das recht handliche Nexus 5X ist im Onlineshop des Internetriesen somit aktuell in allen Farb- und Speichervarianten um 80 Euro günstiger beziehungsweise ab 349 Euro zu bekommen, beim größeren Nexus 6P kann sogar noch etwas mehr gespart werden. Auf beiden Smartphone ändert sich dadurch zwar nichts an der Android-Versionsnummer, - die bleibt bei Android 6.0.1 -aber die Google-Ingenieure haben den Modellen neben Sicherheitsflicken auch Leistungsverbesserungen und Fehlerkorrekturen spendiert. Durch den Aktualisierungsprozess ändert sich die Build-Nummer des Nexus 5X von MMB29V auf MHC19J, und die des Nexus 6P von MMB29V auf MHC19I.Allzu viele Details gibt Google nicht preis, wenn es darum geht, die Änderungen zu beschreiben, die die Software-Updates für beide Smartphones mitbringen. Klar ist, dass sowohl beim Nexus 5X als auch beim Nexus 6P an der allgemeinen Systemperformance geschraubt, und Verbesserungen für die Konnektivität sowie Mobilfunkanbieter-spezifischen Optimierungen implementiert wurden. Wann der Aktualisierungsprozess endlich anlaufen soll, wird aber leider nicht verraten. Aktuellen Gerüchten nach soll es noch im März soweit sein. Wirklich dramatische Neuerungen bringt die Build 14283 von Windows 10 Mobile nicht mit, aber ein paar der Ergänzungen dürften für Tester durchaus relevant sein. So hat Microsoft an der Telefon-App geschraubt und ihr Indikatoren für verpasste Anrufe sowie erhaltene Voicemails spendiert. Innerhalb der App informiert jetzt neben dem entsprechenden Tab-Symbol eine kleine Ziffer über die Anzahl der entgangenen Telefonanrufe oder der noch nicht abgehörten Voicemails.Ebenfalls überarbeitet hat das Entwicklerteam Outlook Mail und Calender. In Outlook Mail kann nun die Textvorschau in der Nachrichtenliste deaktiviert werden und unerwünschte Werbe-Mails lassen sich schnell mit Hilfe eines Kontextmenübefehls in den Junk-Ordner verschieben.Noch nicht sichtbar für Insider umgesetzt, aber bereits angekündigt hat Microsoft außerdem Änderungen für die Apps Insider Hub und Feedback. Apple hat nun ganz offiziell Einladungsschreiben für ein Event am Montag, den 21. März 2016 an Pressevertreter versandt. Die Veranstaltung wird auf dem altehrwürdigen Apple Campus, Infinite Loop 1, im kalifornischen Cupertino abgehalten werden, wie unter anderem BuzzFeed informiert. Beginn der Keynote, die auch diesmal wieder weltweit via Internet als Livestream übertragen werden wird, ist 19 Uhr deutscher Zeit.Die Gerüchteküche spekulierte Monate lang wild darüber, was Apple Anfang 2016 vorstellen könnte, anhand mehrerer konkreter Leaks haben wir aber seit ein paar Wochen eine sehr genaue Vorstellung von den kommenden Produkten – zumindest einigen. Als Event-Highlights gelten ein neues 9,7 Zoll iPad, das zur erst gegen Ende des vergangenen Jahres eingeführten iPad Pro Reihe gehören soll, sowie ein brandneues 4 Zoll Smartphone namens iPhone SE oder iPhone 5SE, das auf den ersten Blick aussehen könnte wie das iPhone 5s, jedoch überwiegend die Hardware des aktuellen iPhone 6s bieten soll.
Laut den Insiderinformationen wird sich eine weitere Ankündigung des Apple-Events um neue Armbänder für die Apple Watch und eventuell aktualisierte Software für die smarte Armbanduhr drehen. Ein vollkommen überarbeitetes Apple Watch Modell dürfte es im Frühjahr 2016 allerdings noch nicht zu sehen geben. Was hingegen in gewisser Weise überfällig ist, das ist die Vorstellung einer neuen MacBook, MacBook Air und MacBook Pro Generation. Die passenden Intel Skylake Prozessoren sind spätestens jetzt gut verfügbar und Apple hat das superflache MacBook mit 12 Zoll Retina Display sowie die aktuellen Ausführungen des MacBook Air und des MacBook Pro mit 13 Zoll Retina Display vor ziemlich genau einem Jahr angekündigt. Das MacBook Pro mit 15 Zoll Retina Display wurde zwar im Mai 2015 einer kleinen Auffrischung unterzogen, aber Apple verbaut darin nach wie vor die gut zwei Jahre alten Intel Haswell Prozessoren. Gegen eine unmittelbar bevorstehende Ankündigung einer verbesserten MacBook-Familie spricht nur, dass es derzeit keine wirklich ernstzunehmenden Gerüchte oder gar Leaks zu dem Thema gibt. Auch wenn die großen Event-Highlights bereits festzustehen scheinen, könnte Apple also die ein oder andere Produktankündigung bis jetzt geheim gehalten haben. Ganz genau werden wir das aber wohl erst in zehn Tagen wissen. Wie dem auch sei, in jedem Fall wird das Event am 21. März für alle Interessierten sowohl über Apple TV als auch direkt auf Apples Webseite im Livestream zu verfolgen sein. The USB-C charger was put to the test by MacStories' Frederico Viticci, who discovered that it made a dramatic difference in charging time.With the screen on at 100%, airplane mode turned on, and background app refresh turned off, it took the iPad Pro 107 minutes, just under two hours, to charge from 0% to 80% using the USB-C charger. To compare, it took Viticci's iPad Pro 732 minutes, or a little over 12 hours, to charge from 0% to 80% in the same test.Indeed, the iPad Pro's 12.9-inch screen uses up a lot of power, especially when it's at 100% brightness.In fact, Viticci's iPad Pro took significantly less time to charge with the fast charging feature in every test he performed, including tests where he was using the iPad Pro to watch videos and play games, which tend to use up a lot power and slow down the charging process.USB-C is a new standard that can transmit power and data much faster than the regular USB we're used to.Some might be put off by the fact that you need to spend another $75 to charge your iPad Pro at a reasonable speed, especially after shelling out a tear-inducing $800 for the base iPad Pro model to begin with. If the slow charging speeds don't bother you enough where you'd need to spend even more money on the iPad Pro package, you can simply charge it overnight while you sleep. Despite the company's success in the early 1980s with the Apple II and Macintosh computers, Apple was in big trouble by 1997. The company was hemorrhaging money. The final quarter of 1996 showed Apple's sales had plummeted 30% from the year before. There were simply too many products — Apple was selling a dozen versions of the Macintosh but couldn't advertise the computers' differences to people in simple terms. More specifically, the Vaio houses a 28-watt chip. That’s more powerful than the 15-watt CPUs most others use. The only major competitor to use a 28W model is, you guessed it, the MacBook Pro. But again, that’s using last year’s processors.So, if you bump the Vaio up to 16GB of RAM, it’s not only a tier above the Yoga, it’s one of the few Windows machines that can compete with, and even best, the highest-end MacBook Pro.To get that, though, you need to shell out $2,400. That’s $300 more than the top-tier Yoga, which is still plenty capable in its own right. (But it's still $100 less than the best MacBook Pro.) The Vaio, meanwhile, puts more emphasis on aesthetics. Its cool, aluminum finish feels like it belongs on a laptop as expensive as this. It’s solidly built, and its creased, dark grey lid comes off as understated yet distinct.That’s one thing I like about both devices, really: They’re each doing their own thing, not aping the MacBook’s success.Another thing that’s easy to like is how thin and light they are. The Yoga is a pinch lighter — at 2.8 lbs, versus the Vaio’s 2.96 lbs — even though it’s bigger, while both come in at a fairly svelte 0.66 inches. Neither are a burden to carry, in other words. And technically, they’re both more compact than the MacBook Pro.Like many premium Windows notebooks, both the Yoga and Vaio are designed to be flexible and welcoming to touch controls. When I want to stream YouTube or WatchESPN, it’s nice to flip my laptop around and turn it into a mini TV, instead of reaching for the tablet I normally use the same way. You have to look at as an added bonus: Windows 10 has a lack of apps built for touch, but since it works fine the normal way, that’s not so bad.Both devices also come with styluses, which is good if you’re a designer or just don’t want your fingers to smudge up your screen. They’re both comfortable and accurate, though the Yoga’s stylus seemed a bit smoother in operation. The Vaio also lacks a slot for holding its pen, which could get annoying. The Vaio, on the other hand, is a little more complex. Below its display is a “release” switch; hold it, and you can flip the screen 180°. (Hence the name.) This isn’t much of an inconvenience, and I can appreciate the engineering that went into building that without turning the rest of the machine into a mess, but the Yoga’s method just comes easier.Of the two, the Yoga is more of an out-and-out business laptop. As such, it packs more ports and connectivity options.MacBooks, these are not. Despite its thinness, the Yoga includes three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a mini DisplayPort, a Kensington lock, microSD and SIM slots, a docking port, and other things you might one day need. So erhalten wir unter anderem den bislang besten Blick auf die Rückseite des P9 beziehungsweise die dort eingelassene Kameratechnik mit gleich zwei Modulen, die in Kooperation mit Leica entwickelt wurde, und bezüglich der wichtigsten restlichen technischen Details bleiben nun auch praktisch keine Fragen mehr offen.
Abgesehen von dem sehr interessanten Kamerasystem wird der Nachfolger des Huawei P8 aber natürlich auch andere High-End-Features in die Waagschale werfen. Dank eines heute von WinFuture entdeckten Datenbankeintrags bei GFXBench erhalten wir die Bestätigung dafür, dass das Smartphone unter anderem über ein 5,1 Zoll großes Full-HD-Display (1920 x 1080 Pixel), eine 8 Megapixel Frontkamera, 3 Gigabyte RAM und 32 Gigabyte Flash-Speicher verfügt. Angetrieben wird es von dem neuen, von Huawei in Eigenregie entwickelten SoC Kirin 955, das vier Cortex-A72 und vier Cortex-A53 CPU-Kerne und eine Mali T880 Grafikeinheit integriert. Schon zuvor war bekannt geworden, dass das P9 ein Metall-Chassis, einen Fingerabdrucksensor und einen 2900-mAh-Akku mitbringen wird. Das P9 könnte aber am Mittwoch nicht die einzige Neuvorstellung von Huawei sein. Die Gerüchteküche geht fest davon aus, dass die Chinesen neben dem beschriebenen Flaggschiff auch das im Vergleich dazu etwas abgespeckte und damit günstigere P9 Lite sowie das Phablet P9 Max vorstellen werden. Microsoft hat im Rahmen der Entwicklerkonferenz Build 2016 in der vergangenen Woche das Windows 10 Anniversary Update angekündigt, das im kommenden Sommer diverse Neuerungen für die Microsoft-Plattform mitbringen wird. Ein wichtiges Thema bei der Vorstellung des großen Updates war die Offenheit gegenüber anderen Plattformen, die Microsoft bei der Entwicklung an den Tag legt. Neben der Implementierung eines vollwertigen Linux-Subsystems plus Unix Bash Shell baut Microsoft auch Android-spezifische Funktionen in Windows 10 ein.Da Android die erfolgreichste Mobil-Plattform der Welt und Windows das am häufigsten genutzte Desktop-Betriebssystem ist, macht Microsofts "Cross Platform"-Initiative durchaus Sinn. Android-Nutzer können sich nach Erscheinen des Anniversary Updates beispielsweise alle auf dem Smartphone eingehende Benachrichtigung auf Wunsch auch auf ihrem Windows 10 PC anzeigen lassen. Außerdem wird es möglich sein, direkt unter Windows 10 mit den Android-Benachrichtigung zu interagieren - diese also etwa zu verwerfen -, und die Interaktion wird umgehend auf das Smartphone weitergeleitet. Ein abermaliges Verwerfen derselben Benachrichtigung auf dem Smartphone ist also dann nicht mehr nötig. Das beschriebene Zusammenspiel zwischen Android-Geräten und der kommenden Windows 10 Version wird unter anderem durch Modifikationen am Action Center ermöglicht. Microsoft spendiert dem Action Center nämlich eine Cloud-Anbindung, was unter anderem bedeutet, dass sich künftig Einstellungen und Benachrichtigungen des Action Centers über mehrere Windows 10 Geräte hinweg synchronisieren lassen. Vergleichbares bietet Microsoft bereits für mehrere andere Bereiche der Windows 10 Oberfläche, darunter etwa das Startmenü, das gewählte Farbschema oder das Hintergrundbild.Auf dem Android-Smartphone muss der Nutzer die Cortana-App installieren, um die Synchronisation mit einem Windows 10 PC zu erlauben. Zudem muss in der App dasselbe Microsoft-Account hinterlegt werden, das auch unter Windows 10 genutzt wird. Ist auch dieser Schritt geschafft, wird die Cortana-App unter anderem in der Lage sein, das Weiterleiten der Benachrichtigungen zu übernehmen. Auf einem Windows 10 PC werden diese Benachrichtigungen dann nicht nur angezeigt, sondern Nutzer können laut Microsofts Build-Vortrag (wirklich interessant wird es im Video ab 16:30) sogar direkt aus dem Windows 10 Action Center heraus auf eingehende SMS antworten.
Die Ankündigung dieser neuen "Cross Platform"-Funktionalität von Windows 10 ist im Kontext der Build 2016 nur einer von diversen Hinweisen, die zeigen, wie sehr Microsoft mittlerweile daran interessiert ist, Windows-Nutzern Möglichkeiten an die Hand zu geben, die es erlauben, mit alternativen Mobil-Plattformen wie Android und iOS bestmöglich zu interagieren. Parallel dazu gab es während der Entwicklerkonferenz praktisch keine nennenswerten News zu Windows 10 Mobile, was aber nicht bedeutet, dass die Redmonder ihre eigene Mobil-Plattform aufgegeben haben. CIAPC has declared itself happy a settlement has been reached, but unease about the way in which a child has been targeted persists. Photos Apple's 21.5-inch iMac, which went on sale in the US last Friday, has revealed two of its secrets: first, that it's a collosal pain to get inside should you want to upgrade its RAM or its hard drives; and second, that at least some of the units currently on store shelves are labeled as being "Assembled in USA".The new iMac – the smaller of the two über-skinny models announced along with the iPad mini and other Cupertinian kit on October 23 – has been duly torn apart by the tools 'n' parts 'n' repair-advice folks at iFixit. Not only did they discover how frustratingly difficult it is to upgrade, but they also noticed that on its back it proudly proclaims that it was assembled in the good ol' US of A. iFixit was not alone in its discovery. The same provenance was reported by Fortune. It should also be noted that the same "Assembled in USA" notification has been mentioned in Apple's discussion forums as appearing, for example, on a Mac mini in 2006, a Mac Pro in 2007, and an iMac in 2011.Before you jump to the conclusion that Apple is moving its product assembly from China to its home shores, know that such a development would likely be trumpeted by Apple's PR and marketing crews as a patriotic move by Cook & Co. "job creators".It's also instructive to note exactly what "Assembled in USA" means. As AppleInsider points out, the US Federal Trade Commission says that the use of "Assembled in USA" on a product is valid "when its principal assembly takes place in the U.S. and the assembly is substantial. For the 'assembly' claim to be valid, the product's last 'substantial transformation' also should have occurred in the U.S."As an example of an invalid use of "Assembled in USA", the FTC cites a computer with all of its major components being made outside the US, then "put together in a simple 'screwdriver' operation in the U.S." That computer, the FTC rules, "must be marked with a foreign country of origin." Why? Because "An 'Assembled in U.S.' claim without further qualification is deceptive."
So there's some "substantial" assembly of the new 21.5-inch iMac being done in the US. Exactly what amount we don't know, except – if Apple is rigorously following the FTC guidelines – that it's not a "simple 'screwdriver' operation."Ironically, iFixit discovered in its teardown of the new 21.5-inch iMac that there's little involved in servicing it that could be described as simple, screwdriver or no screwdriver.Even such straightforward matters as upgrading RAM or swapping out the hard drive – now a 2.5-inch laptop drive, by the way, not the older iMac's 3.5-inch drive – are a pain. "Once inside," iFixit wrote in an email, "folks can still replace the RAM, hard drive, and CPU, but they'll have to remove the entire logic board before doing so."And getting inside the new iMac is no trivial matter. "We were quite worried when we saw that super-thin bezel during Apple's keynote," they write, "and unfortunately we were correct: the glass and LCD are now glued to the iMac's frame with incredibly strong adhesive." After using a heat gun to melt the adhesive and their trusty guitar picks to pry the display loose, iFixit discovered a thoroughly redesigned iMac. The three fans of the previous model have been replaced by one, there's no optical drive (but you knew that), the hard drive is now encased in a rubber vibration-dampening housing, and a second microphone has been added, presumably for noise cancellation "to improve sound quality during intimate FaceTime chats with your mother," they write.The CPU, by the way, is a Intel 3rd Generation (née "Ivy Bridge) Core i5-3330S, which Intel sells in quantity at $177, spring-loaded into its LGA1155 socket. The GPU is a laptop-class Nvidia GeForce GT 640M.So, yes, you can replace the CPU, as well as upgrade your RAM and swap out your hard drive – although there's no room for a second drive, as there was in earlier models. But if you do open the iMac to accomplish these should-be-straightforward upgrades, know that getting it back together is no easy feat. According to iFixit, "You'll have to masterfully peel off the old double-sided sticky tape and apply new tape in order to reseal this iMac into original condition."Call us old fashioned, but we believe that the design of every personal computer should make it simple to add more RAM and to upgrade – or, for that matter, replace – its hard drive. Telling others how to build successful products, of course.Former Windows chief Steve Sinofsky has launched himself as a product development expert with a blog titled Learning by Shipping, which he describes as "thoughts and perspectives on product development, management and the process of bringing new products to market".The ex-exec said his website is a continuation of writing and blogging he did while at Microsoft on the development of Office, Windows 7 and Windows 8. The blog's title is similar to the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' quip about artists and shipping products.Sinofsky has already written a whole book on product development strategy, One Strategy: Organization Planning and Decision Making, with Harvard Business School Prof Marco Iansiti.In December the former Microsoftie tweeted he will be teaching at Harvard as an executive in residence while also writing and conducting research. Sinofsky said he won’t go into “the past regarding Microsoft” for his new blog and promised that he “will work to keep posts free of snark and ad hoc criticisms in hopes that the comments and back and forth will be the same”. During his time Sinofsky successfully got the Office and Windows teams shipping code to deadline and helped lift Microsoft out of what he now calls “post-Vista recovery”.However, Sinofsky left the software giant rather suddenly in November, and without adequate explanation, just three weeks after the launch of Windows 8 and its Surface hardware. I’ve always been strangely fascinated by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary - amazing how time flies, even when you’re not an agent of the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations - it’s the densest and most mythology-rich of all the Star Trek TV shows. Often ambitious and audacious, it won more battles than it lost and remains a box-set must-own for any card-carrying Starfleet fan. However, it was also paradoxically (at times) the slowest, ugliest SF show on the box.In many ways, DS9 was the anti-TNG. While Star Trek: The Next Generation was shiny, clean and antiseptic - a look exaggerated by JJ Abrams for his lens-flare reboot - DS9 was unapologetically grey and dirty.For this third televised Trek, the show’s producers parked the idea of galactic gallivanting, choosing instead to base their stories on a dilapidated space station at the edge of the Alpha Quadrant. Thanks to a conveniently placed wormhole, aliens would come to DS9 and not vice versa. While series creator Gene Roddenberry famously conceived the original Trek as a SF reworking of vintage western show Wagon Train, Paramount head Brandon Tartikoff declared DS9 more The Rifleman, the story of a man and his son surviving on the wild frontier.
DS9 was to debut during the sixth season of TNG, running in tandem with the hit sequel series before taking up the mantle solo. It needed to offer something different, and expectations were high. After a lacklustre first season, TNG had developed into a firm fan favourite.Co-creator Michael Piller, who along with Rick Berman had steered the Enterprise NCC-1701-D to such great success, felt the best option was a big change in direction: “Coming with the wind at our backs, it really felt as if we had figured out what made Star Trek work, and that we could bring all the vision that Gene Roddenberry had about space and the future to a different kind of franchise. We didn’t want to have another series of shows about space travel.”DS9 certainly looked unlike any Trek before it. There was a sludgy, high contrast realism to life on the space station, emphasised by grotty broadcast quality of the show, which like TNG was being edited on video at the time.The original director of photography Marvin Rush, and production designer Herman Zimmerman, revelled in the shadows offered by the utilitarian, militaristic, alien location. The show was to receive multiple Primetime Emmy nominations for its art direction, as well as award noms for cinematography and production design, from the ASC and Art Directors Guild respectively. Ironically, the real beauty of this work is only ever likely to be realised if and when Paramount greenlights an HD remaster. DS9’s choice of principal characters was similarly bold. Avery Brooks, as the aloof Federation Commander Benjamin Sisko, Nana Visitor as Bajorian Major Kira Nerys and Rene Auberjonois as shape-shifter Odo were uniquely compelling creations, far from Roddenberry’s heroic archetypes. TNG import Colm Meaney, as Chief Miles O’Brien, quickly established a chemistry with UK thesp Siddig El Fadil (later Alexander Siddig), aka Dr Julian Bashir, while Terry Farrell, as ancient Trill Lieutenant Jadzia Dax, provided the leopard spots. Early plans to lumber the Dutch former model with a prosthetic forehead were thankfully scrapped.Of course, none of the above could compete with a series stealing turn by Armin Shimerman, as the duplicitous Ferengi bar owner Quark.DS9 may have been a conceptual risk, but it hit the ground running. The two-hour pilot Emissary was highest-rated series premiere in US syndication history at the time, bagging an 18.8 per cent audience share. But in tablet mode, it uses a new, touch-optimized version of the Chrome operating system that makes it easier to work with using only your fingers —better than using it with the tiny icons of the desktop mode. It's a little like the Lenovo Yoga, a more expensive Windows laptop/tablet combo that tried to do the same thing a few years ago. At $249, it's competitive with most other Chromebooks (which is to say, cheaper than most laptops), and still considerably less expensive than most Android tablets, including Google's 8.9 inch Nexus 9, which starts at $399.We'll find out whether or not it performs as well as an Android tablet or a laptop on its own when it comes out later this year. Asus Chromebit: Perhaps the coolest thing Google showed was this computer-on-a-stick called the Chromebit, from Asus. It's also due out later this year.Plug a Chromebit into the HDMI port of any television or monitor, and you have a full-fledged Chrome OS-based computer at your disposal. It has USB ports on the end to plug in a mouse and keyboard, or you can use Bluetooth for the same.The Chromebit has 2GB of memory and 16GB of storage, "exactly the same as any other Chromebook," Sengupta says. He described it as a "tiny little Chrome device." The Asus Chromebit looks a bit like the popular Chromecast, only bigger and in a variety of colors. The official price is still TBA, but Google promises it will be "less than $100" when it comes out this summer.
Interestingly, in addition to just being a super-tiny PC, Chromebits could be useful as digital signs. A business that buys a bunch of Chromebits will be able to control them all from a central point. Google claims that because you can use them ad infinitum, that "less than $100" price point means that the Chromebit is actually cheaper than the cost of printing a new paper sign for every new need. Back in 2012, there was only one Google Chromebook. It was made by Samsung, and it ruled the Amazon charts for a long while (as many individual Chromebooks still do), but it was the only one. Since then, Google has expanded the web-based Chrome operating system (OS) to work on a variety of products, from an expanded range of Chromebook laptops to the Chromebase all-in-one PC to the Chromebox shuttle PC to the Chromebox for Meetings teleconferencing system.Now, Google has identified more itches that it believes Chrome devices can scratch, and on the cheap. Microsoft has committed to making Windows 10 free on small devices, which should pave the way for a lot of inexpensive Windows devices. But Google's relentlesss price-cutting on Chrome devices will help hold Microsoft to that promise.Apple’s likely to unveil the next iteration of iOS very soon, which means it’s just about time for everyone to get excited about everything new, then lament the features that haven’t been added.This process is inevitable, so we might as well start the complaining early. As someone who's recently switched from a Nexus 5 to an iPhone SE, there’s one Android-esque bit I particularly want from a potential iOS 10: a customizable Control Center.For the most part, the Control Center — that little settings menu you swipe up from the bottom of your display — is a good thing. Introduced with iOS 7, it’s made it very easy to access commonly used functions. Three or four button presses become a swipe and a tap. This is something any OS that sells itself on “simplicity” should strive to do. The problem is one that’s not unfamiliar to iPhone owners: a lack of user control.As it stands now, the functions you can access are limited to the handful Apple chooses itself. For me, it’s not a stretch to call some of these expendable. I’ll run through the lot of them now to explain what I mean. Airplane mode: There’s only one instance in which I use Airplane mode, and that’s on actual airplanes. Still, it can be useful if you’re having a battery crisis or you just to go off the grid for a bit, so sure, whatever.
It's a similar deal if you want to use, say, VPN, Personal Hotspot, or Location Services. Giving the option to swap these in, or at least expand the two rows of toggles there now, would seem to be a simple fix. Adding shortcuts to third-party apps would be even better, though that could open up issues in design (since Apple would need developers to make custom icons) and security (since you’d be able to access personal data from the lock screen).Is something like this more for geeks than “everyday” people? Yeah. Would that make it any less useful? Nope. There are plenty other things for Apple to address with the next iOS update — multi-user support, a better Siri, the ability to remove unused default apps — but I know I’ll be happy so long as I don’t have to look at a calculator icon again.Buying a budget laptop is an exercise in compromise. There’s no one category of tech where the old “You get what you pay for” axiom rings truer — you simply aren’t going to find many affordable notebooks that are close to being "objectively good" buys the way a Macbook Pro or Dell XPS 13 is. On average, their screens are grainy, their builds are flimsy, and their internals aren’t very fast. Mediocrity is the norm.But they’re cheap. It’s perfectly understandable why legions of plastic $400 notebooks are swiped off of Best Buy and Walmart’s shelves each fall: Even if it’s the safer purchase in the long run, dropping $1,000 on a better-made machine is a schedule-changing investment. And it’s not as if every laptop buyer needs higher-end materials in their stuff. That said, if you’re going to buy cheap, you might as well get the most from your dollar. So instead of writing off the category and demanding you save your money for a better notebook, we dove headfirst into the sea of budget laptops to find the ones that are worth buying.Not surprisingly, the returns were thin. We settled on a rough guideline of laptops under $550, but since this side of the market is filled with such a diverse range of devices, we included our favorites from a selection of full-on notebooks, 2-in-1 convertibles, Chromebooks, and ultra-affordable Windows machines, like the HP Stream.Per usual, we settled on the following laptops after scouring the web for reviews and performing our own hands-on testing. Die breite Verfügbarkeit des Octa-Core-Prozessors soll Anfang 2015 erreicht werden, daher ist es zumindest unwahrscheinlich, dass uns noch Ende diesen Jahres erste Smartphones mit dem Snapdragon 810 erreichen könnten. Ausgeschlossen ist aber auch das nicht, wobei die Wahrscheinlichkeit zumindest in Europa als gering einzustufen ist.
