Man könne allerdings nicht versprechen, dass die verschwundenen Dateien wieder auftauchen, erklärt Microsoft in einem Blogpost.Das neue Update werde derzeit von Windows-Insidern getestet, teilte eine Microsoft Sprecherin auf Anfrage von t-online.de mit. Es soll, sobald diese Tests abgeschlossen sind, an die Nutzer ausgeliefert werden. Die Auslieferung des jüngsten Herbst-Updates war am letzten Wochenende für alle Computer gestoppt worden.


Probleme mit Treibern von Intel

Schon am vergangenen Freitag hatte es Probleme mit Treibern von Intel gegeben. Treiber sind kleine Programmteile, die dafür sorgen, dass Teile des Computers, zum Beispiel das Display oder die Lautsprecher, einwandfrei funktionieren.Laut einem Bericht von "heise online" hatte Microsoft als "bekannten Fehler" unter anderem aufgelistet, dass einige Nutzer gemeldet hätten, dass nach dem Update eigene Dateien fehlten.


Sie müssen nichts tun, warten sie auf das neue Update, das Microsoft in Kürze zur Verfügung stellen will.Grundsätzlich sollten Sie vor Updates immer ihre eigenen Dateien sichern und auf einem eigenen Datenträger sichern, zum Beispiel einer DVD oder einem USB-Stick.


Laut Microsoft gibt es bei dem jüngsten Update von Windows 10 auch ein Kompatibilitätsproblem mit einigen Intel Display-Audio-Gerätetreibern. Diese könnten zu einer erhöhten Prozessorauslastung und zu weniger Laufzeit bei Laptops führen. Aus diesem Grund hatte man sich am Freitag entschieden, vorerst nicht mehr das Windows 10 Update (Version 1809) an die betroffenen Computer auszuliefern.



Intel bietet neue Treiber an

Welche Systeme genau betroffen sind, teilten Intel und Microsoft noch nicht mit. Wer versucht, das Update manuell zu installieren, bekomme jedoch eine Warnung angezeigt. Microsoft empfiehlt betroffenen Nutzern dringend, die Installation des Oktober-Updates abzubrechen. Ansonsten könnte es zu "Problemen" kommen.


Intel bietet bereits eine Lösung für Fortgeschrittene an: Die Audio-Gerätetreiber müssen dazu auf der Intel-Seite heruntergeladen und aktualisiert werden. Danach steht dem Update auf Windows 10 nichts mehr im Wege, berichtet "PC Welt".Betroffen sind laut Intel Treiber die Versionen 10.25.0.3 bis 10.25.0.8. Wenn möglich, sollten die Intel Graphics Driver auf die Version 24.20.100.6286 (oder neuer) aktualisiert werden. Dadurch erhält man auch die Intel Display Audio Driver in der Version 10.25.0.10.


Microsoft hat das Oktober-Update für Windows 10 offiziell ausgespielt. Die Version 1809 liefert viele Neuerungen, zum Beispiel einen dunklen Modus und Updates für Microsoft Edge.Die neue Version von Windows ist da: Seit dem 2. Oktober 2018 können alle Nutzer das Oktober-Update herunterladen und installieren. Automatisch ausgespielt wird das Update auf allen kompatiblen Windows-Rechnern ab dem 9. Oktober, schreibt Microsoft in einem Blog-Post.

Whenever you want to locate your laptop, head to the Microsoft account page and sign in with your account information. When you’re logged in to your Microsoft account, select the section labeled Devices. On the Devices page, select the device you want to locate. On your laptop’s page, select Find my device. You’ll then be taken to a page in which Microsoft will give you a map location for your device of where it was last detected, and when it was last detected. On the left side of the screen, if you click on the name of your device, a menu will pop up that may show more information about the laptop’s last known location as well as two options you can select: Find and Lock. Find will let you search for your laptop’s current location, not simply its last known location.


On your Mac, head to your menu and select System Preferences. Here, go to the iCloud icon: This may require you to log in with your Apple account information if you haven’t already done so.


Review your iCloud features and look for the option to Find My Mac. Make sure the checkbox is selected to enable this feature. If not, check it, and then select Allow when iCloud asks you if you are sure.


Step 3: Go to iCloud.com


Now that the feature is turned on, you can locate your laptop by logging into iCloud.com with your Apple account. Once logged in (you may have to verify that you trust the device you are working on), select Find my iPhone to get started.



Step 4: Find it on the map


You should now be able to find a menu of all the devices associated with your account. Select your MacBook from this list, and iCloud will bring up a map showing you where it is. You can choose to have your Mac play a sound if you want to find it, or display a custom message on the screen, or you can even remotely lock your Mac with a password to prevent access.


The native functions for both Windows and MacOS are fine if you want a quick way to track your laptop, but don’t offer a lot of extra security options. If you want more protection, you’ll need to download additional software and set up a more complete tracking program. This is particularly helpful in case of theft. We can recommend a couple of options you can get started with.


PreyProject’s Prey: Prey is an excellent download that allows you to sign up multiple devices for tracking. When you mark a device as missing, Prey can track it for you and help you remotely lock your device, retrieve data from it, ring an alarm to find it, or wipe data from it completely to protect your privacy. The app can also create evidence reports with information on the device’s location and images taken from a device’s camera that the police can use to help recover your belongings. There are several different tiers of service, but the basic package is free and tracks up to three devices.



Hidden: Hidden is another top tier tracking app that’s specifically designed for MacOS and iOS devices, so if you have a MacBook you may want to look into this app as well. It can track location, take images, log keystrokes, record spoken messages, enable remote access and more. In addition to controlling your device from afar, you can also wipe data if necessary. The Personal package for Hidden costs $2.99 per month to use and covers three Apple devices. The Basic package costs $1.67 per month and covers one Apple device.


No laptop in the past few years has been more influential than the XPS 13. It started this race to thiner bezels back in 2015, which has now spread to every gadget that has a screen.


In its latest iteration, Dell’s taken things even further. The 2020 XPS 13 has made the screen larger using a 16:10 aspect ratio, all while shrinking the bottom bezel. The result is a larger screen without needing a larger overall laptop.

Overall, you’ll find Chromebooks ranging from 11-inch 2-in-1s up to 15-inch options for additional screen real estate. HD resolution is the standard, while touchscreen and 4K options are rare. Intel Celeron processors are a popular choice for today’s Chromebooks, typically dual-core versions that rarely rise above the 2.0GHz mark.


Most Chromebooks offer 2GB to 4GB of RAM, which is enough for average laptop tasks, but low compared to traditional laptop models that regularly offer 8GB or 16GB of RAM. As for storage, Chromebooks don’t have large disk drives, as they depend on the internet for most data purposes. Storage can usually be augmented with an SD card or USB drive if necessary.


For ports, most Chromebooks are largely comparable to laptops, though fewer in number. USB-A 3.0, USB-C, and headphone jacks are common connections.


The truly high-end part of the laptop range, however, doesn’t include Chromebooks. You won’t find six-core or eight-core processors like you get on a laptop like the MacBook Pro 15, Razer Blade, or Dell XPS 15. These content creation machines and gaming laptops will outclass any Chromebook in terms of performance.


Ultrabooks can easily surpass $1,000 even with a basic specification, and something like an upgraded Surface Book can break $3,000. But take a look at popular Chromebooks on the market, and you’ll quickly see just how affordable they are.



For example, HP’s flagship model is $600, while Acer’s Spin 15 is roughly $426. A popular 2017 Samsung model can even be found for $226. Such low prices are one of the strongest market differentiators for Chromebooks. Google’s ultra-premium $1,000 Pixelbook is the only exception.


Ultimately, when people are on a strict budget and can only afford a few hundred dollars for a new laptop, Chromebooks are their first — and often only — choice. No other laptops (and increasingly few tablets) are so affordable.


We’ve tested and reviewed well over 400 laptops over the years, searching for the best of the best. Losing your laptop or being a victim of theft can have disastrous consequences. There are steps you can take to protect your laptop and prevent a security breach if you were to lose this device.


Besides protecting your device with a password, we recommend using one of the built-in tracking tools offered by Windows and Apple. Enabling these features is quick and easy, and they provide you with a reliable way of tracking a lost or stolen laptop.


With Windows 10, Microsoft includes a Find My Device ability for devices using the operating system. Enable this feature to help track your laptop when it goes missing.


Step 1: Go to Update & Security in Settings



Head to your Start menu and type in Settings, then select the Settings option that appears. Once there, look for the section that says Update & Security, and select this.


Look to the sidebar menu and find the option that says Find My Device and select it. In the window that appears, look for the header that says Find My Device: ___ and see if it says on or off. If it says off, then select the Change button below to turn it on.

However, with the addition of the Google Play Store, you can also download Android apps to fill in any software gaps. Their implementation in a laptop setting might be a little funky in some cases — some expand full-screen while others remain locked in smartphone screen mode — but Android apps are available if you really need them.


Finally, average Chromebooks have a better battery life than the typical laptop. Although nine or 10 hours is most common, newer models are more likely to have 12-hour battery life. Windows 10 laptops are slowly closing the gap, but on average, Chromebooks last longer.


The limitations of Chrome OS mean you can’t install some important software that you might otherwise need. Some notable examples include certain Adobe applications or any kind of proprietary software that’s restricted to Windows or MacOS. If you rely on similar applications, a Chromebook isn’t the right choice for you.


That also extends to performance in general. Chromebooks do tend to run fast, but in some cases, you’ll be limited by the components inside. Lower-end Chromebooks tend to use older processors that can’t compete with what you get in the Windows and Mac space, especially in terms of multitasking. Then again, if you’re looking at spending $200, a Chromebook is a far better option.


On the higher end, there are options like the HP Chromebook x2 or the Pixelbook, and you’ll find familiar processors like 8th-gen Core i5, which features four cores and plenty of power. Chromebooks tend to fly with these faster options. There are also newer Chromebooks on the way, with Intel’s latest 10th-generation processors, further closing the Chromebook, MacBook, and Windows 10 laptop gap.



One important note to make is that Chromebooks support Linux. If you absolutely need desktop applications, installing Linux is certainly an option. There are Linux versions of Audacity, Firefox, GIMP, OBS Studio, Steam, VirtualBox, and many more, but your favorite application may not offer a Linux-based variant. Check the developer’s website first before ruling out a Chromebook.


Chromebooks are designed with a few specific people in mind. At the forefront are students, as school administrations tend to favor Chromebooks due to their security benefits, sturdy build quality, and software limitations. That means you’ll find cheap Chromebooks in public schools all across the country.


Chromebooks go beyond just cheap, plastic laptops for kids. There are also higher-end options for professionals and college students. Because they tend to be lightweight with long battery life, they are great options for people who need to take their work on the go, whether that’s from class to class or on long flights. Some of these include the Google Pixelbook, Google Pixelbook Go, and the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630.



There are certainly those same options in the Windows 10 laptop world. However, in the cheaper price range, Chromebooks can sometimes provide a better value. For example, approximately $500 is where Chromebooks thrive, but Windows 10 laptops at this price tend to get bogged down with a thick chassis and clunky performance.


The most expensive Chromebook you can buy is Google’s Pixelbook, with a $1,000 starting price. It represents the high end not only in premium materials and build quality but also performance.

Dafür ließ sich das Yoga im Test in knapp eineinhalb Stunden wieder aufladen. Der Sound des Yoga klingt dank der Soundbar sowohl bei Spielen als auch Filmen gut. Mit einer vorinstallierten Software können Nutzer auch verschiedene Soundprofile einstellen. Mit den eingebauten Mikrofonen soll sich laut Lenovo Sprachassistent Cortana auf eine Entfernung von bis zu vier Meter bedienen lassen. Im Test hörte Cortana sogar bei einer Entfernung von acht Metern mit. Auch wenn sie vom Raum nebenan angesprochen wurde, führte sie den Befehl aus.


Was Datenschützer und paranoide Menschen freuen dürfte: Lenovo spendiert dem Yoga C930 eine eingebaute Abdeckung für die Kamera. Diese lässt sich mit einem Schalter aktivieren. In feinstem Marketing-Sprech bezeichnet der Hersteller das als "komfortable TrueBlock Kameraabdeckung". Lenovo ist so stolz auf dieses Feature, dass es dem System auf seiner Webseite zwei Absätze widmet. In Wirklichkeit funktioniert das Ganze wie ein handelsüblicher Kamerablocker mit Schiebemechanismus für zehn Euro.


Trotz aller Technik hat das Yoga C930 auch einige Macken. So spiegelt der Bildschirm stark – selbst auf der höchsten Helligkeitsstufe. Außerdem bleiben wie bei allen Touchdisplays viele Fingerabdrücke hängen. Wer zudem sein Gerät per HDMI anschließen will, muss sich einen Adapter kaufen: Ein HDMI-Eingang fehlt am 1.500-Euro-Notebook. Auch einen SD-Karten-Steckplatz sucht man vergebens. Blöd für Menschen, die gerne automatische Back-ups auf SD-Karten machen lassen. Tatsächlich geizte Lenovo mit Steckplätzen: Nur einen USB 3.1, zwei Thunderbolt USB-C und einen Audio-Anschluss bietet das Yoga.


Im umgeklappten Modus wird es schwierig, die Lautstärke einzustellen. Denn echte Lautstärkeknöpfe am Gerät fehlen. Das ist besonders ärgerlich, wenn man das Gerät umgeklappt hat, um beispielsweise einen Film zu schauen. Entweder Sie ändern die Lautstärkeeinstellungen jedes Mal manuell in Windows oder klappen das Gerät zurück, um die Tastatur nutzen zu können. Theoretisch lässt sich der Stift des Yoga so programmieren, dass es die Lautstärke ändern kann. Im Test ignorierte das Gerät aber bockig alle Befehle.


Das Yoga C930 ist technisch ein tolles Gerät. Für den Preis wäre alles andere aber auch eine Kunden-Beleidigung. Das Ultrabook liefert dank der Soundbar einen tollen Klang, Programme laufen flott, der Touchscreen garantiert eine leichte Bedienung. Und was für ein Notebook besonders wichtig ist: Der Akku hält lange und lädt schnell. Allerdings kostet der Spaß auch mindestens 1.499 Euro. Da stellt sich die Frage: Für wen ist das teure Gerät gedacht?



Die Soundbar ist zwar schön und gut, aber unterwegs lässt sie sich nicht nutzen – außer man möchte Mitreisende im Zug nerven. Und wer Zuhause ein Soundsystem hat, wird das Yoga vermutlich sowieso da anschließen. Gamer sollten lieber einen Laptop mit dedizierter Grafikkarte kaufen. Grafikdesigner werden sicherlich an dem handlichen Stift, dem großen Bildschirm mit klaren Farben sowie der langen Akkulaufzeit Freude haben – aber Lenovos Yoga Book eignet sich für solche Arbeiten vermutlich eher.


Wer jedoch nicht zeichnen kann oder will, aber unbedingt ein Convertible möchte, findet günstigere Alternativen. Die mögen zwar technisch nicht so stark sein – aber wer unterwegs Filme schauen, im Internet surfen oder Textdokumente bearbeiten will, braucht kein Yoga C930.Microsoft hat den Fehler im gestoppten Update offenbar gefunden. Dabei war er schon im Juni 2018 von Testern bemerkt worden. Ein neues Update soll in Kürze zur Verfügung stehen.


Microsoft hätte die Update-Panne bei Windows 10 offenbar verhindern können. Test-Nutzer im "Insider Programm" hatten frühzeitig auf das Verschwinden von eigenen Dateien aufmerksam gemacht und im Juni 2018 Alarm geschlagen. Der Konzern hatte die Hinweise aber anscheinend übersehen.


Erst nachdem der Fehler nach dem Start der offiziellen Auslieferung an alle Nutzer wieder auftrat, reagierte der Konzern und stoppte das Update vorübergehend. Microsoft will nun laut einem Bericht von "golem.de" das Windows-Insider-Programm so umbauen, dass Fehler nicht nochmals übersehen werden können.



Ein hundertstel Prozent der Nutzer sind betroffen

Laut Microsoft sollen nur sehr wenige Nutzer von dem Fehler betroffen sein. Dieser trat etwa bei einem Hundertstel Prozent aller installierten Windows 10-Geräte auf. Immerhin genug, um das Update für alle zu stoppen. Die betroffenen Nutzer hatten offenbar den Speicherort für die eigenen Dateien verändert. Das geht zum Beispiel mit dem Tool "Known Folder Redirection".

Christie's betritt mit der Auktion neues Terrain und liefert eine Antwort an den alten Konkurrenten Sotheby's. Der hatte nach der spektakulären Versteigerung eines Banksy-Bildes, das sich teils selbst zerstörte, seit zwei Wochen die Schlagzeilen beherrscht. "Ein Stück Live-Performance" sei erstmals versteigert worden, verkündete das Auktionshaus stolz. Nun punktet Christie's im Dauerlauf um Premieren und Verkaufsrekorde bei schwindelerregenden Summen.


Neu ist sogenannte generative Kunst aber keineswegs. Schon in den 1970er-Jahren experimentierten Künstler mit automatisierten Prozessen und überließen Maschinen das kreative Schaffen. Immer wieder gab es seitdem KI-Arbeiten in Kunst, Musik und Literatur.


Der Kunstbegriff werde alle paar Generationen neu definiert, sagt Erin-Marie Wallace, deren Firma Rare-Era Appraisals bei Washington Kunstwerke schätzt, gegenüber dem Radiosender NPR. "Wir bestimmen neu, was Kunst im 21. Jahrhundert eigentlich ist. Kunst wird denke ich daran gemessen, was Leute bereit sind, dafür zu zahlen."Lenovo präsentiert ein neues Yoga-Ultrabook. Das Gerät beeindruckt mit edlem Design und aktueller Technik – erschreckt aber mit einem hohen Preis. Und es stellt sich die Frage: Für wen ist es gedacht?


Geizhälse sollten jetzt aufhören zu lesen. Ansonsten droht ihnen vermutlich ein Schock. Denn der Preis des neuen Lenovo Yoga C930 wird sie erschrecken: Mindestens 1.499 Euro verlangt der chinesische Hersteller für sein Premium-Convertible. Das High-End-Modell kostet sogar um die 2.100 Euro. Zahlen, bei denen selbst teure Microsoft-Surface-Geräte erblassen dürften.Auf der Lenovo-Seite sind jedoch fast alle Modelle des Convertibles ausverkauft – bis auf die günstigste Variante. Mögliche Gründe: Design- und hardwaretechnisch kann das Yoga C930 durchaus beeindrucken. Allerdings leistet es sich auch einige Schwächen.



Für mindestens 1.500 Euro dürfen Käufer eine Menge erwarten. Lenovo liefert – und das bereits bei der Packung. Dabei wirkt der graue, Schuhbox-ähnliche Karton unscheinbar. Der Deckel lässt sich erst mit Mühe entfernen. Doch wer noch die zwei schwarzen Klappen anhebt, bekommt die Belohnung: Das Yoga C930 schwebt einem praktisch entgegen. So als wolle es sagen: Guck, wie toll ich bin! Der Karton ist so gebaut, dass er sich beim Entfernen der Klappen nach oben anhebt. Ein Spektakel, bei dem selbst so manchen Redakteur der Mund offen blieb. Andere witzelten dagegen, dass hohe Preis wohl zum Teil der Packung geschuldet sei.


Eine Besonderheit des Yoga: Das Gerät lässt sich vollständig umklappen und als Tablet nutzen. Das Convertible kommt in vier Preisklassen, die sich technisch ähneln. Unterschiede finden sich vor allem im Arbeits- und Festplattenspeicher sowie dem Bildschirm. Das günstigste Modell arbeitet zudem mit einem schwächeren Prozessor. Im Test hatten wir die 1.800-Euro-Version. Sie besitzt einen 13,9 Zoll UHD-Touchscreen (Auflösung: 3.840 zu 2.160 Pixel), 16 Gigabyte (GB) Arbeitsspeicher, 512 GB internen Speicher in Form einer SSD-Festplatte und einen Achtkern-Prozessor von Intel mit jeweils 1,8 Gigahertz (GHz) Takt. Als Grafikchip dient ein Intel HD-Grafik 620. Das Gerät liefert auch einen Stift, um unter anderem Notizen zu machen. Der lässt sich im Yoga verstauen und dort aufladen. Als Highlight nennt Lenovo das eingebaute Soundsystem, das Dolby Atmos zertifiziert wurde. Das Besondere: Egal wie Nutzer das Yoga drehen, das Soundsystem dreht sich mit.


Zum Vergleich: Das 2.000 Euro-Modell des Microsoft Surface Book 2 bietet einen leicht kleineren Touchscreen sowie weniger Arbeits- und internen Speicher. Dafür läuft das Gerät mit einem schnelleren Prozessor und besitzt eine dedizierte Grafikkarte von Nvidia. Wer es günstiger möchte: Für knapp 1.000 Euro bietet beispielsweise Asus ein Modell seines Zenbook Flip 14 mit einem 14-Zoll-Full-HD-Touchscreen. Im Vergleich zum Yoga C930 gibt es aber weniger Arbeitsspeicher, internen Speicher und einen schwächeren Prozessor.


Das Yoga bietet scharfe Bilder und klare Farben. Das Gerät fährt dank SSD schnell hoch, Programme brauchen nur wenige Sekunden zum Laden. Selbst Games lassen sich mit dem Yoga C930 zocken. Wegen des schwachen Grafik-Chips laufen aktuelle Spiele vermutlich als Diashow. Altere Titel dürften aber (bei niedrigeren Einstellungen) spielbar sein.



Die Tastatur hat zwar nur wenig Hub, Tippen macht damit aber trotzdem Spaß. Das Touchpanel auf der Tastatur reagiert ohne Hänger. Auch beim Touchscreen zeigen sich keine Probleme. Der Stift liegt gut in der Hand. Wer designtechnisch arbeitet oder einfach nur Bilder im Tablet-Modus zeichnen will, wird sicher daran seine Freude haben. Zudem bietet er zwei Knöpfe, die sich mit verschiedenen Funktionen programmieren lassen.Der Akku hält laut Lenovo zwischen neun und 14 Stunden. Im Praxistest lief das Yoga im Dauer-Video-Betrieb tatsächlich über zehn Stunden. Allerdings war der Bildschirm auf mittlerer Helligkeit eingestellt. Bei Games geht der Akku schneller zur Neige.

Die Berichte der Nutzer würden jetzt untersucht, hieß es. Wer das Update bereits installiert und Daten verloren habe, solle den Microsoft Support direkt kontaktieren. Vor größeren Updates sollten Nutzer generell Sicherheitskopien ihrer Daten anlegen. Das geht entweder über spezielle Tools oder manuell mit dem Sichern auf externen Datenträgern wie Festplatten oder Speichersticks.

Aber statt einem alten Meister war hier ein Computer am Werk: Das Porträt ist das erste Kunstwerk einer künstlichen Intelligenz (KI), das bei einem großen Auktionshaus unter den Hammer kommt – ohne klare Regeln darüber, wer der Autor ist und wer die Rechte besitzt.


"min G max D Ex[log(D(x))]+Ez[log(1-D(G(z)))]" steht als Signatur in der unteren Ecke geschrieben. Gemeint ist der Algorithmus, der das Werk produzierte. Christie's schätzte eher vorsichtig, dass bei der Versteigerung in New York umgerechnet bis zu 8.700 Euro zusammenkommen könnten und sagte die "Ankunft von KI auf der weltweiten Auktionsbühne" voraus. Am Donnerstag trieben fünf Bieter den Preis dann aber heftig in die Höhe. Den Zuschlag bekam ein anonymer Bieter am Telefon bei gut 432.000 Dollar, was etwa 380.000 Euro entspricht.


Hinter dem Werk steckt das Pariser Kollektiv Obvious, das im Februar bereits eine Arbeit aus seiner Belamy-Reihe an Kunstsammler Nicolas Laugero Lasserre verkaufte. Er zahlte 10.000 Euro und sprach von einem "grotesken und zugleich großartigen" Ansatz. Elf Belamy-Drucke gibt es inzwischen. Benannt ist die fiktive Familie nach KI-Forscher Ian Goodfellow, dessen Nachname sich auf Französisch etwa in "bel ami" (guter Freund) übersetzen lässt.



In Goodfellows "Generative Adversarial Network" (GAN) treten zwei konkurrierende Teile eines Algorithmus gegeneinander an. Der "Generator" versucht dabei, den "Discriminator" zu überlisten – in diesem Fall bei der Frage, ob ein Gemälde echt ist oder vom Computer geschaffen. Als Grundlage diente hier ein Datensatz aus 15.000 Porträts, die zwischen dem 14. und 20. Jahrhundert entstanden. Auf dessen Basis erzeugte der "Generator" so lange Bilder, bis sein Gegenspieler eines für ein vom Menschen geschaffenes hielt.


"Menschen sollen auf die fertige Arbeit bei dem ganzen Prozess so wenig Einfluss wie möglich haben", sagt Gauthier Vernier, der mit Hugo Caselles-Dupré und Pierre Fautrel hinter dem Kollektiv Obvious steckt, dem Magazin "Time". Alle drei sind "Time" zufolge 25 Jahre alt. Ihr Motto: "Kreativität ist nicht nur etwas für Menschen." Mit den Einnahmen wollen sie ihren Algorithmus weiter trainieren, Geld in Rechenleistung stecken und sich an 3-D-Objekten versuchen.



Was heute wie ein netter Gag für den Kunstmarkt wirkt, könnte bald neue Gesetze erfordern. "Wenn eine Arbeit von einem Menschen erdacht, aber von einer Maschine erzeugt wurde, wer ist dann der Urheber?", fragt das "Art Newspaper". Und wenn Menschen irgendwann gar nicht mehr eingreifen, könnte eine KI das Urheberrecht dann allein besitzen? Autorenschaft kann ein Algorithmus Vernier zufolge nach geltendem Recht bisher nicht haben. KI-Roboter Sophia hatte vor einem Jahr aber beispielsweise schon die saudische Staatsbürgerschaft erlangt.

Unfortunately, there is no way at this time to keep the battery percentage always displayed on modern Apple iPhones. You will always need to open Control Center to view the percentage; this is due to the limitation of screen real estate caused by the display’s notch.



If you have an older Apple device such as an iPhone 8 or earlier, you can follow these steps to show your battery percentage in your status bar. iPhone SE and iPad owners can also use these steps to show the battery percentage since neither has the display notch that iPhone X and later devices showcase.


Now, your Apple device will show the battery percentage at all times in the top-right corner of your screen. To reverse this effect, follow the settings given above once more. Note that when you use Low Power mode on older devices and iPad tablets, the battery percentage will always show — follow the steps below to learn more about this setting.

Although there are basic computing elements, such as a file manager and an app launcher, the focus of these devices is the Google Chrome web browser. Because you can’t download web-based apps, most of the action happens within Chrome’s tabs.


That might sound limiting at first, but many applications already offer web versions, such as Spotify, Netflix, Gmail, Slack, and Evernote. Due to the prevalence of web applications, many people spend the majority of their time in a web browser anyway. If your typical workflow resembles this scenario, transitioning to a Chromebook will be relatively smooth. Just connect to Wi-Fi and proceed with your browsing as normal.

Belkin’s mini version of a laptop dock is designed to be portable. Instead of leaving it on your desk, you can easily store it in a laptop bag or pack. However, despite its size, the dock can still handle dual 4K, 60fps displays via HDMI, plus a USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 port. There’s also a Gigabit Ethernet port for wired connections. However, unlike most of our docking stations, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack here, so you’ll have to find your headphone connection elsewhere.

We’re also going to talk mostly about absorbed glass-mat (AGM) batteries, which are different than the flooded batteries we think of when talking about car parts. Exide’s Edge batteries benefit from secure, non-spillable AGM construction. They’re ideal for vehicles that are frequently in stop-and-go traffic. The model we’ve selected provides 710 cold-cranking amps, so it won’t let you down when the temperature dips. It’s one of Exide’s most affordable AGM models, but it’s more expensive than many other batteries.


Bosch makes more than just tools and dishwashers, and its AGM line of car batteries is among the best. This one features 710 cold-cranking amps, it weighs 47 pounds, and it should outlast conventional car batteries by up to two times. The company’s roadside assistance program is available to buyers, too. To sweeten the deal, Bosch will replace the battery free of charge if it fails within four years of purchase.

The Eneloop Pro is the newest version, and it sports a capacity of 2,500mAh. The Pros can only be charged 500 times or so, but their performance is what makes them so good. Eneloops simply work better than ordinary batteries, and perform flawlessly both in everyday conditions and extreme temperatures. Plus, the batteries don’t exhibit any sort of memory effect, meaning you can recharge them when they’re fully or partially drained.


AmazonBasic’s 2000mAh rechargeable batteries are particularly dependable. They’re designed to maintain 80% of their battery capacity for two years, even when not in use, thanks to the very slow self-discharge feature built in. Amazon rates the batteries as usable for up to 1,000 charges, an excellent feature for making sure they last as long as possible. Our link takes you to an eight-pack, but other sizes are available, and the whole line of AmazonBasic rechargeable batteries is very good if you want to pick up some other types, too. The batteries are recyclable at the end of their lives.


You’ve probably never heard of Powerex, but the company’s Imedion batteries get high marks for being a great mix of performance and value. They have nearly the same capacity as the Eneloop Pros (2,600mAh), although they won’t perform as well over time. If you need to store these batteries long-term — i.e. over a year — they should retain about 85 percent of their original charge, and you should see about 1,000 charge cycles before the batteries need to be replaced. Performance in high temperatures is also impressive.


Energizer is a household name, and the company’s Recharge Universal brand is widely available. While they offer only 2,000mAh capacity, they remain one of the cheaper options among top-tier rechargeable batteries. Tests have shown these batteries to keep up with more expensive options when it comes to performance, and unless you need the larger capacity, they make a good option for your wireless keyboard or mouse.



If you’re willing to take a risk with an off-brand alternative, try EBL’s rechargeable batteries. Each battery sports 2,800mAh, and you get eight in a pack instead of the typical four. The company also claims its batteries will retain most of their charge even after three years of storage. While we don’t have any experience with these batteries ourselves, reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive.


Panasonic is back with a revamped version of its Eneloop AAA batteries: The Pro batteries are high-capacity, 950mAh units that are rated to last for 500 charge cycles without developing any issues. You can store them for up to a year when not in use, and they’ll maintain 85% of their charge. They’re also quite versatile and able to weather extreme temperatures and be recharged from any capacity as needed. That makes these AAAs an easy recommendation for someone who wants reliable recharging in a battery size that doesn’t always have a lot of good options.


A docking station is designed to make life easier for more complex laptop setups. These stations allow you to route monitor connections through your laptop, charge accessories, hold extra storage, and make your laptop a bit more functional. Microsoft hat sein Anti-Viren-Programm "Windows Defender" grundlegend überarbeitet: Künftig soll es im sogenannten "Sandbox-Modus" arbeiten und so den PC vor Angriffen vor möglichen Schwachstellen in der Software schützen. Microsoft will Windows 10-Rechner noch besser vor Hackerangriffen schützen und nimmt dazu grundlegende Änderungen am Anti-Viren-Programm "Windows Defender" vor. In Zukunft soll die Software in einem isolierten Modus ausgeführt werden. Das gab das Unternehmen in seinem Blog bekannt.


Hintergrund ist, dass der "Windows Defender" umfassende Zugriffsrechte verlangt, um das System wirksam schützen zu können. Das macht die Software selbst aber zu einem attraktiven Ziel für Angreifer. Tatsächlich hatten Sicherheitsforscher bereits auf potenzielle Schwachstellen in dem Programm hingewiesen.


Um zu verhindern, dass das Anti-Viren-Programm selbst zum Einfallstor für Schadcode wird, soll es daher künftig in einer abgeschotteten "Sandbox" ausgeführt werden. So könnte die Software, selbst wenn sie gehackt wird, keinen größeren Schaden anrichten.Der Umzug in die "Sandkiste" war allerdings nicht einfach, gibt Microsoft zu. Verschiedene Prozesse mussten aufeinander abgestimmt werden, sonst könnte es zu Leistungsverlusten kommen.


Die neue Sandbox-Methode wird zunächst im Rahmen des Windows-Insider-Programms getestet. Die Teilnehmer sollen ihr Feedback geben, wie gut das überarbeitete Anti-Viren-Programm ihrer Ansicht nach arbeitet, bevor das Feature großflächig ausgerollt wird. Der Windows Defender wäre die erste Anti-Viren-Software, die nach dem Sandbox-Prinzip funktioniert.

Mit der neuen "Storage Sense"-Funktion will Microsoft Platz auf Windows 10-Rechnern schaffen. Eigentlich sollte das Feature bereits Anfang Oktober mit dem Herbst-Update eingeführt werden. Die Auslieferung verzögert sich jedoch. Windows-Nutzer kennen das: Das Betriebssystem häuft zahllose temporäre Dateien auf der Festplatte an. Oft fragt man sich allerdings, was an diesen Elementen temporär sein soll, weil sie niemals mehr zu verschwinden scheinen.



Mit dem Oktober-Update bringt Microsoft aber eine neue Funktion namens Storage Sense auf Windows-10-Rechner. Sobald diese verfügbar ist, findet man sie in den Einstellungen unter "System/Speicher/Jetzt Speicherplatz freigeben". Wer möchte, kann an dieser Stelle auch einstellen, dass die Freiräumaktion in bestimmen Zeitabständen automatisch wiederholt wird.


Allerdings hat Microsoft die Auslieferung des Herbst-Updates (Update 1809) bereits Mitte Oktober wieder vorläufig gestoppt. Grund sind dem Konzern zufolge Meldungen einzelner Nutzer, die nach dem Update von fehlenden Dateien berichteten. Wer das Update bereits heruntergeladen habe, solle mit dem Installieren warten.

Wer in Windows 10 ein Standardprogramm zum Öffnen von Dateien ändern will, könnte derzeit Probleme bekommen: Denn Windows ignoriert Änderungen durch Nutzer und öffnet Dateien weiterhin mit dem voreingestellten Programm. Das berichtet die Webseite "How-to Geek".


Dabei sind laut "How-to Geek" nicht alle Programme betroffen. Die Redakteure konnten den Fehler unter anderem mit "Adobe Photoshop" und "Notepad++" reproduzieren. Wollten sie diese Software als Standardprogramm bestimmen, setzte Windows die Einstellung wieder zurück. Das Problem betrifft Nutzer der Windows-Version 1803, auch bekannt als "April Update 2018".


Anscheinend tritt der Fehler seit dem kumulativen Patch KB4462919 auf, der am 9. Oktober erschien. Auf seiner Webseite schreibt Microsoft, dass "zurzeit keine Probleme mit diesem Update bekannt" sind. t-online.de hat Microsoft um eine Stellungnahme zu dem Problem gebeten. Der Konzern wollte sich nicht dazu äußern.Wer zudem bereits das Oktober-Update auf seinen Rechner geladen hat, dürfte nicht betroffen sein. Allerdings macht dieses Update andere Probleme. Darum hat Microsoft die Aktualisierung zurückgezogen.


Mithilfe der Dateizuordnungs-Funktion können Nutzer bestimmen, mit welcher Software Windows Programme öffnen soll. Beispielsweise lässt sich einstellen, ob eine Bilddatei immer mit "Paint", "Photoshop" oder "Fotos" geöffnet wird. Dadurch lassen sich Klicks und Zeit sparen. Um das Standardprogramm zu ändern, gehen Sie dafür wie folgt vor:


Microsoft bietet die kostenpflichtige Windows 10-App "File Opener" vorübergehend umsonst an. Die Aktion im Windows Store gilt aber nur noch für wenige Tage. Die Windows 10-App "File Opener – Open Image, Document, Video, Audio" ist bis zum 11. November gratis im Windows Store erhältlich. Normalerweise kostet das Software-Tool 19,99 Euro. Nutzer haben der App im Durchschnitt 3,5 von fünf Sternen gegeben.



Das Programm unterstützt alle gängigen Dateiformate und soll so das Öffnen von Text-, Bild-, Video- und Audio-Dateien erleichtern. Nutzer haben häufig Probleme, bestimmte Dateien mit ihren bevorzugten Wiedergabeprogrammen zu öffnen. Allein für Fotos und Grafiken gibt es neben .jpg noch Dutzende verschiedene Formatkürzel wie .png, .tiff, .ico, .bmp und so weiter. Häufig muss man mehrere Programme installieren, um beispielsweise alle Audio- oder Videoformate abspielen oder bearbeiten zu können. Der "File Opener" für Windows 10 soll "das eine Tool für alles" sein.


Die App kann man in den kommenden Tagen kostenlos im Windows Store herunterladen. Für die Software braucht man die Windows 10-Version 10586.0 oder höher. Schon bald könnte der klassische Lautstärkemixer aus Windows 10 verschwinden. Das zumindest lässt eine Vorabversion von Microsofts Betriebssystem vermuten.


Windows-10-Nutzer müssen vermutlich in Zukunft auf den klassischen Lautstärkemixer verzichten: Wer in der Vorabversion "Windows 10 19H1 Build 18272" den Mixer öffnen will, dem zeigt Windows ein anderes Menü. Das berichtet die Tech-Seite "Windows Latest".Für gewöhnlich lässt sich durch einen Rechtsklick auf das Audio-Symbol in der Taskleiste der Lautstärkemixer öffnen. Nutzer können hier die Lautstärke verschiedener Geräte und Apps individuell einstellen. Die Funktion gibt es seit Windows Vista. In der Vorabversion von Windows 10 zeigt sich dagegen das Menü "App-Lautstärke und Geräteeinstellungen".



Dabei handelt es sich um ein großes Fenster, das ähnliche Optionen wie der klassische Lautstärkemixer bietet, allerdings nicht mehr in der gewohnt kompakten Form. Zudem können Nutzer hier mit einem Klick die Einstellungen auf die empfohlenen Standartwerte von Microsoft zurücksetzen.Wer derzeit das Menü "App-Lautstärke und Geräteeinstellungen" starten möchten, muss in den "Einstellungen" auf "System" klicken und dann auf "Sound". Unterwegs Filme oder Serien auf dem Notebook anzuschauen, ist unter Reisenden ein beliebter Zeitvertreib. Die Video-Wiedergabe benötigt im normalen Betrieb aber viel Energie. Mit einem einfachen Trick lässt sich das ändern. Auf langen Reisen ist man oft froh über etwas Unterhaltung. Allerdings frisst das Abspielen von Videodateien auf dem Laptop viel Strom. In most cases, the damage appeared without explanation, as the owners claimed to have been very careful with the laptop. Microsoft has now responded after an investigation into the Surface Laptop 3 cracked screen incidents. The company has found that “in a very small percentage of cases, a hard foreign particle may cause a hairline fracture in the glass that may seem to appear unexpectedly or without visible cause.”


Microsoft advised Surface Laptop 3 owners who have experienced the issue to contact Microsoft Support in order to avail of a free repair within the device’s warranty period, which should not be a problem as it is a fairly new product. Schadsoftware sollte nicht direkt Zugang zu wichtigen Einstellungen haben. Dabei hilft es, beim angemeldeten Nutzer nur eingeschränkte Rechte zuzulassen. "Seien Sie nicht immer als Admin angemeldet, für die normale PC-Nutzung reicht ein eingeschränktes Benutzerkonto aus", sagt Viktor Schröder, Leiter IT-Services von der Gesellschaft für Informatik. Windows 10-Nutzer können unter "Einstellungen/Konten" einen lokalen, eingeschränkten Benutzer erstellen, dieser sollte dann bei der Windows-Anmeldung verwendet werden. "So verringert man das Risiko, dass unerwünschte Software installiert oder gestartet werden kann", sagt Schröder.


Eine gute Antiviren-Software sollte für alle Anwender Pflicht sein. Der in Windows 10 enthaltene Defender bietet einen guten Grundschutz. "Wer ganz sichergehen möchte, sollte über eine umfassende Sicherheitssuite nachdenken", sagt Schröder. Dabei sollte man es aber nicht zu gut meinen. "Man sollte darauf achten, dass nicht mehrere Antivirenprogramme installiert sind." Im schlimmsten Fall könne der PC sonst sogar den Dienst vollständig quittieren.


Viele Attacken aus dem Internet geschehen im Hintergrund, ohne dass die Nutzer aktiv im Internet sind. Einen Teil dieser versteckten, unberechtigten Systemzugriffe kann eine Firewall blockieren. Windows 10 liefert diese schon unter "Defender Security Center/Firewall & Netzwerkschutz" mit. Sie erlaubt nur bestimmte ausgehende und ankommende Verbindungen und schützt so den Rechner.



4. Windows auf dem neuesten Stand halten

Ein großer Schwachpunkt bei der PC-Sicherheit sind Sicherheitslücken in Windows oder anderer Anwendungssoftware. Schädlinge und Hacker nutzen die Eintrittspunkte gezielt für Angriffe. "Privatanwender sollten darauf achten, Windows und andere Software auf dem aktuellen Stand zu halten", sagt Matthias Gärtner vom Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI). Zu den wichtigsten Updates gehören neben Windows auch Browser-Erweiterungen, Java, der PDF-Reader Adobe Acrobat und natürlich die Antiviren-Software.


Schon nach dem Hochfahren des PC lauert das erste Sicherheitsrisiko: das Passwort. Wer den Rechner mit anderen Nutzern teilt, sollte in den Einstellungen unter "Konten & Anmeldeoptionen" eine sichere PIN oder ein Passwort vergeben. "Je länger das Passwort, desto besser", sagt Hauke Mormann von der Verbraucherzentrale Nordrhein-Westfalen. Er empfiehlt Groß- und Kleinbuchstaben, Zahlen und Sonderzeichen zu mischen und mehr als acht Zeichen zu verwenden. "Wir würden uns auch wünschen, dass Dienstanbieter im Internet die Zeichenbegrenzung für Passwörter generell abschaffen", sagt Mormann. Ein Tipp für verschiedene Seiten: "Legen Sie ein sechsstelliges Grundpasswort fest, für jede Plattform denken Sie sich dann beispielsweise sechs Zeichen dazu."



Die meisten WLAN-Router haben einen Standard-Netzwerkschlüssel. Dieser reicht aber oft nicht aus. "Wechseln Sie den Schlüssel regelmäßig, am besten alle drei Monate", empfiehlt Schröder. Auch sollte der Zugriff auf die Router-Einstellungen mit einem sicheren Passwort geschützt werden. "Auf die Router-eigene Firewall können sich Privatanwender grundsätzlich erst mal verlassen", sagt Gärtner. Jedoch sollten Nutzer darauf achten, "dass sie sich keine Software installieren, die den Firewallschutz wieder aufweicht". Besonders das Internet der Dinge, zum Beispiel Überwachungskameras, Babyphones oder der WLAN-fähige Kühlschrank, schaffen neue Sicherheitsrisiken.

Auf den Energieverbrauch des Monitors müssen Käufer nicht mehr besonders achten. "Gerade bei kleinen Monitoren mit LED-Backlight ist das kein Thema mehr", sagt Ulrike Kuhlmann. Vom Kauf eines gebrauchten Gerätes rät die Expertin eher ab: "Dazu sind die neuen Monitore einfach zu günstig." Lediglich bei teuren Bildschirmen ab 1000 Euro könne sich der Gebrauchtkauf lohnen.


Ebenfalls nicht zwingend notwendig sind integrierte Lautsprecher. Die sind zwar praktisch für alle, die keine externe Boxen anschließen möchten, bieten aber qualitativ meist nur gerade genug für Systemklänge, nicht aber etwa fürs Musikhören.


Vermeintlichen Prüf- oder Qualitätssiegeln sollten Käufer keine große Beachtung schenken, rät Michael Gundall. "Viele Hersteller haben eigene Siegel. Die sind nicht sehr aussagekräftig." Hilfreicher sei es, sich auf seine eigenen Sinne zu verlassen. Im Geschäft könne man sich beispielsweise leicht einen Eindruck von der Bildqualität des Monitors verschaffen.



Während auf den neuesten Fritz-Boxen bereits das Betriebssystem Fritz-OS 7.02 läuft, kommen nun auch ältere Geräte in den Genuss von Fritz-OS 7. Neben deutlich verbesserter WLAN-Leistungen und einer aufgeräumteren Oberfläche, rüstet AVM in der siebten Version insbesonders die Mesh-Technologie der Router ordentlich auf.


So funktioniert Mesh: Normalerweise bauen WLAN-Repeater für die Verbesserung der Reichweite eine Verbindung zum Router auf. Die Mesh-Technologie ermöglicht jedoch die Kommunikation zwischen den Repeatern untereinander, wodurch eine schnellere und stabilere WLAN-Abdeckung möglich ist.Mit Fritz-OS 7 lassen sich auch andere, ältere Fritz-Boxen als Mesh-Repeater einsetzen. Hierzu sollte der Fuß des Monitors höhenverstellbar sein und eine stabile Verarbeitung vorweisen, um nicht zu wackeln.


Die Größe des Bildschirms sollte danach gewählt werden, wie und woran man arbeitet. Wenn nur gelegentlich eine E-Mail geschrieben wird, sei ein kleiner Monitor ausreichend. "Öffnet man gerne zwei Dokumente nebeneinander, sollte der Bildschirm etwas breiter sein", rät Jenny Braune. Ulrike Kuhlmann empfiehlt, einen Bildschirm mit mindestens 22 Zoll Bildschirmdiagonale und Full-HD-Auflösung (1920x1080 Pixel) zu kaufen, der schon ab rund 100 Euro zu haben ist. Von günstigeren Geräten rät sie ab, da die Auflösung dann zu niedrig sei. Generell steige mit der Höhe der Auflösung auch der Preis der Bildschirme. "Für Monitore mit Ultra HD, auch 4K genannt, muss man ungefähr 300 Euro pro Gerät rechnen." Für Büroarbeiten sei das aber nicht nötig, zumal nicht jede Grafikkarte 4K unterstützt. Außerdem sei das Bild bei Ultra HD zwar super fein aufgelöst, aber auch kleiner, was für Leute ab 50 Jahren mitunter zu klein sein kann, so Kuhlmann.

Neben der Auflösung ist auch die Display-Technologie wichtig für die Bildqualität. Dabei seien Monitore mit TN-Technik "nicht mehr zeitgemäß", findet Ulrike Kuhlmann. Sie empfiehlt stattdessen Monitore mit MVA/PVA- oder IPS-Technik.


Auch die Bildwiederholrate spielt eine Rolle. 60 Hertz seien für die Büroarbeit zwingend notwendig, für Gamer sei eine höhere Frequenzen von etwa 120 Hertz interessant, sagt Kuhlmann.



Grundsätzlich rät Ulrike Kuhlmann zu matten Displays, da sich in glänzenden Oberflächen zu viel spiegelt. Das Gehirn sei zwar in der Lage, die Spiegelung auszublenden, das sei aber anstrengend. Ebenso wie der blaue Anteil im Lichtspektrum, das der Monitor abstrahlt. Dieser hält tendenziell wach und kann bei abendlicher PC-Arbeit zu einem schlechteren Schlaf führen. Manche Monitore enthalten Filter, die das blaue Licht in gelbes umwandeln, andere haben diese Einstellung im Betriebssystem.
