Dell Latitude E4400 Battery www.all-laptopbattery.com

Google makes the very good point that this first generation of Glass is a prototype, the equivalent of a 1980s-era mobile phone. The company says the device has had three hardware upgrades and nine major OS updates so far and that there will be more to come.New hardware is never pretty and usually not small. The first commercial magnetic hard drive, IBM's Model 350 disk storage system, could save a whopping 5MB of data on a unit that weighed a little under a ton. The first mobile phone was a barely usable brick with a battery life measured in minutes.Glass isn¡¯t remotely close to a commercial system, it's a test-bed prototype that has the basics in place. It's in about the same place as the Apple Newton was to the original Palm Pilot, and if/when Glass is sold to the public it will be a lot more polished. This is not going to happen even if it were possible, Google says. All the applications in the MyGlass store are going to be vetted on privacy grounds and Google has already moved to kick at least one Glass porn developer off its rolls. It looks likely that Google might be making the MyGlass apps store resemble Apple's business model rather than Android's. Google will still be committed to open access as far as we're aware, but it's being much more rigorous checking what software is available.

That wouldn't stop a smart developer from trying to write a facial recognition app. But even with the limited processor in the headset working in conjunction with a linked smartphone and the greater cloud, you're not going to get Glass capable of the kind of real-time facial recognition portrayed on popular TV shows. Not quite sure how this comes as a myth, since one look at the hardware in action shows you this isn¡¯t so. Google says you can always tell if a Glass wearer is online because they'll be looking up to view the screen. That said, we'd be willing to bet that eye-covering versions of wearable headsets are coming down the line. In a few years' time there will undoubtedly be full face glasses that will either display information in a display or even augment reality so the user can see what they want to.Such devices are already being worked on by companies other than Google and, even if ultimately unsuccessful, are certainly coming once we have the hardware and software capable of running them.

Google correctly points out that the perfect surveillance device is rather more discrete than Glass, and there's better, cheaper and more subtle tech out there that can be used to spy on people without their knowledge. Most of us are already carrying around better surveillance devices that Glass, namely mobile phones. Cops and the feds can already use a mobile as a tracking device, voice recorder and video camera without the owner being aware of what is going on, even if the handset is apparently switched off.Glass has been used as surveillance device, just not a very good one. Last month a Glass Explorer claimed she had been the victim of a hate crime after being attacked when using Glass to record bar patrons. It later emerged she reportedly had a restraining order taken out against her for allegedly recording people's conversations through a window with her smartphone.Google says it appreciates the first headset's price of $1,500 is too much for some people, but says some have been given away by private individuals, bought by employers for staff, or bought using crowd-sourced cash. The web giant has also given some away.

But $1,500 is a fair chunk of change to spend on Glass, and the very first buyers also had to shell out nearly a thousand dollars in admission fees to the Google I/O developer conference to get one, and be very quick on their feet. Other users, who now make up the majority of Glass wearers, won¡¯t have borne that cost, but you've got to have a fair amount of liquid income to get a set. This hack nearly bought a set himself at the 2012 Google I/O conference, but couldn't get it past expenses and was not going to tell his wife-to-be that he'd blown most of the honeymoon budget on a piece of gadgetry for fear the wedding might not happen.Google points out that the etiquette of Glass use is still being sorted out, just as the social rules governing acceptable smartphone use have evolved. It also asks those considering a ban to remember that later models of Glass allow for prescription lenses to be added and may be needed by people to actually see.A Seattle bar was one of the first places to issue a ban, threatening ass kickings for Glass wearers, although the owner later admitted it was a publicity stunt. US and UK regulators are also mulling a ban on Glass wearing while driving, although the courts have so far sided with users.

However, more than a few places are welcoming Glass users. Visitors to San Francisco's Aurea Lounge bar in the Stanford Hotel get a free drink if they are using Glass, since the owners no doubt recognize that people who can afford a set are worth cultivating.Ever since their invention, cameras have been touted as privacy killers, Google says, especially since the addition of cameras to mobile phones. As it turns out, in some ways they have been, but the benefits have outweighed the negative influences. Some people have had their privacy invaded, but at the same time important moments have been captured for posterity, crimes by members and the guardians of society have been documented, and important information has been shared. If you're really that concerned about privacy ending then Glass isn't the cause. Instead, speak to your elected representatives about mass surveillance by law enforcement, make sure your computer security systems are topped up and ready for action, and stop posting so many revealing drunk tweets.

Dell has introduced an entry-level mobile workstation, the 15.6-inch Precision M2800, to fill the gap between business-level laptops and top-of-the-line mobile workstations such as the 17.3-inch Dell Precision M6800 and HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation. If you're not up for shelling out a MacBook Retina level load o'cash for one of those two, or if you're not looking forward to lugging around the 7.86-pound M6800 or the 7.62-pound ZBook, you can spend around half ¨C the M2800 starts at $1,199 ¨C and tote a lot less tonnage than you would if you picked up one of those two behemoths. If you're a mobile pro who spends your time navigating spreadsheets, negotiating over email, researching your competition on the web, or even doing light image editing and simple wireframe tweaking, the M2800 is likely overkill. Dell suggests that its new mobile workstation is designed for folks making their living with Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit; Dassault Syst¨¨mes SolidWorks; PTC Creo; and other such design apps.

You can equip the M2800 with your choice of Intel 22-nanometer Tri-Gate 4th Generation Core i5 and i7 processors (n¨¦e Haswell), but don't worry that you'll be limited to Intel's Iris graphics ¨C the M2880 is billed as a portable workstation, remember? As such, it's not choked by Intel's integrated graphics, but is instead equipped with an AMD FirePro W4170M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.Your M2800 can be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, and with either an HD or FHD (1920-by-1080 pixel) display. It also has multi-monitor support, along with the docking capability to make hooking 'em up less of a hassle.Although Dell is pushing virtualized workstations as a way to better manage, improve the security of, and increase the efficiency of individual workstations by moving them from under desks into data centers, there will always be a place for laptops that let content creators, engineers, and designers take their graphics-hungry apps on the road. The AMD FirePro W4170M might help the new Dell Precision M2800 ¨C available this spring ¨C to pull that off affordably. Oh, and it's ISV-certified, of course. It's a workstation, remember?

Way back in 2011 we covered a handy category of portable computer that has completely disappeared. The early A4 portables were a specialist item, much beloved of journalists but not a big hit with the wider world. It took a different design to win those hearts. But to start with, let's look at an early ancestor: the Psion Organiser. They weren't pretty, but they were functional ¨C well, for 1984. The Organiser II LZ in 1989 was the one that first tempted me, flush with the earnings of my first job. It boasted a four-line screen, which was just about enough to get by, but its main drawback was its keyboard: a terrible alphabetical-order calculator-style job. Even entering names and addresses into it was a chore; you really would not have wanted to edit text on the thing.By the time that Organiser II LZ shipped, there had already been a palmtop PC (sort of) ¨C the DIP Pocket PC. As its packaging proudly said, it was Designed in Britain, Made in Japan ¨C the former part by ex-Psion engineers.Made famous in the rebadged version sold by Atari as the Portfolio, it wasn't much of a PC ¨C 40x8 mono screen, 128kB of total storage (that's RAM and the C: drive put together, folks) and a proprietary OS mostly compatible with MS-DOS 2.11. But it could do useful stuff ¨C diary, address book and a spreadsheet ¨C and ran for a claimed month on 3 AA batteries.

The next year, a much-less-constrained ¨C and much more expensive ¨C device went on sale: the Poqet PC.It had a full 640kB of RAM, a full 8MHz CPU and cost a full $2,000 to the Portfolio's $399. It also claimed 50 to 100 hours of life out of just two AAs ¨C unless you ran something very CPU-intensive, when this shrank to 10 to 20 hours. The Delhi police failed to respond to over 600 complaints forwarded to it by India¡¯s anti-corruption agency for eight years because they couldn¡¯t access a designated online portal. The portal was launched in 2006 to ensure any complaints sent to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) regarding a particular Delhi government department, including the police, could be dealt with as expeditiously as possible by the relevant department. However, a total of 667 police complaints were left unanswered since 2006 because of the schoolboy error, according to The Indian Express. The issue was finally resolved in January when two officers were summoned to the CVC to explain themselves. It then emerged that the fuzz hadn¡¯t dealt with any of the complaints for eight years because they simply didn¡¯t know the password or how to use the portal.
