"Eine Gebrauchsanleitung muss die Funktionen des Gerätes und die entsprechende Benutzung erläutern", erklärt Katharina Grasl von der Verbraucherzentrale Bayern. Außerdem muss sie ausreichend auf mögliche Gefahren und Sicherheitsrisiken hinweisen. "Liegt einem Gerät keine oder nur eine unzureichende Anleitung bei, kann Verbrauchern gegebenenfalls ein Anspruch auf Nacherfüllung zustehen." Das bedeutet, dass der Händler oder Hersteller eine ausreichende Anleitung nachreichen muss. Ist das nicht möglich, kann der Käufer vom Kaufvertrag zurücktreten.

Doch nicht immer helfen mitgelieferte Gebrauchsanleitungen weiter. Bloß jeder Zweite findet sie laut Bitkom-Studie bei der Inbetriebnahme eines neuen Geräts hilfreich. Nutzen möchte man das neue Gerät aber natürlich trotzdem. Es liegt nahe, dann den Kundendienst des Herstellers zu kontaktieren. Eine erste Anlaufstelle kann die Website des Unternehmens sein. Dort werden häufig gestellte Fragen (FAQ) beantwortet - manchmal mit gut nachvollziehbaren Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen. Eine andere Möglichkeit bieten die Service-Hotlines und Chats der Hersteller.

Häufig sind diese Angebote kostenfrei. Bei Hotlines ist das zum Beispiel an einer 0800-Vorwahl zu erkennen. Ist eine Hotline dagegen kostenpflichtig, darf ein Anruf nach einem Urteil des Europäischen Gerichtshof nicht teurer sein als ein normaler Festnetzanruf, erklärt Georg Tryba von der Verbraucherzentrale Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Probleme mit Hotlines

Allerdings helfen solche Service-Angebote teils nur bedingt weiter. So hat etwa die Stiftung Warentest die Qualität von Service-Hotlines und -Chats mehrerer Telekommunikationsunternehmen untersucht. Das Ergebnis: Chat-Roboter verstanden die Fragen fast nie, sondern reagierten nur auf Schlüsselwörter. Und auch die Chats mit echten Mitarbeitern schnitten schlecht ab. Etwas besser war die Beratung durch Mitarbeiter bei Telefon-Hotlines. Trotzdem schnitten alle getesteten Hotlines im Punkt "Problemlösung" nur mit den Noten "ausreichend" oder "mangelhaft" ab.

The Acer Spin 5 brings Alexa to the midrange 2-in-1 market, the first device to ever do so. It works (almost) like an Amazon Echo speaker in a notebook format. Using four far-field microphones and Intel’s Smart Sound digital signal processor (DSP), you can fling questions from right across a large room and Alexa will have no difficulty hearing them. You can ask for weather updates and traffic reports, tell it to play anything on YouTube or Spotify, and if you have any smart home devices, control them.

This laptop is solidly built, with minimal flexing if you apply pressure on the lid or keyboard deck. Unfortunately, its bezels are massive, which is baffling considering the cheaper Aspire 5’s bezels are actually slimmer. It’s also a little heavy at 3.31 pounds. The hinge rotates 360 degrees and has a fairly smooth mechanism that doesn’t make the touchscreen wobble. This laptop is equipped with a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 or 166PPI) display, the new standard for midrange and premium notebooks. Colors look great onscreen, although the brightness was a bit low at 279 nits (at least way better than the Aspire E 15), and contrast was average at 750:1. Still, overall images look spot-on, making this a great device for photo and video editing, design work, or simply watching Netflix.

The keyboard provides a very comfortable typing experience even though key travel is slightly shallow, thanks to a snappy and very responsive key mechanism. The touchpad is also quite good, boasting full Microsoft Precision touchpad support. The Spin 5 supports a digital pen, but that’s an additional $50 expense.

The keyboard deck resists flexing, and the plastic bottom of the chassis is solid. Overall, we have no major complaints when it comes to build quality. The bezels are also pleasantly slim (it’s not a member of the tiny bezels club though) and being just 0.9 inches thick and 3.97 pounds heavy, this laptop is pretty portable despite its 15-inch screen.

Speaking of the screen, the Aspire 5’s IPS Full HD panel is quite competitive for its price. Color accuracy was decent at 2.49 (1.0 or less is excellent, and found only on the most premium laptops), brightness was average at 238 nits, and contrast was surprisingly good at 890:1 (1,000:1 makes for the richest blacks and whites). While this is definitely not a laptop for professional photo and video editing, we think most people would find it pretty darn good for media consumption. Its backlit island keyboard is also something you normally won’t find in a budget laptop. Keystroke is a little shallow for our taste but is plenty snappy and precise. Furthermore, its Microsoft Precision touchpad is easily the equal of laptops that cost hundreds of dollars more.

The Aspire 5 comes in other configurations with Intel processors, but this deal’s unit has an AMD Ryzen 3 3200U dual-core processor. Weil davon 7 als kritisch und 40 zumindest als wichtig eingestuft werden, rät das Bundesamt für die Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI) zu einem zügigen Anstoßen der Installation über die Windows-Update-Funktion, falls die Auto-Update-Funktion deaktiviert sein sollte.Klicken Sie dazu im Windows-Menü auf "alle Programme" und dann auf die Windows-Update Funktion und prüfen Sie, ob alle Updates installiert sind. Starten Sie "nach Update suchen" durch Anklicken. Wenn die "Auto-Update-Funktion" aktiviert ist, sollte jedes Update automatisch heruntergeladen und installiert werden. Das ist die beste Methode, um Updates so schnell wie möglich zu bekommen.

Bei den kritischen Sicherheitslücken besteht laut Microsoft die Gefahr, dass Angreifer Schadcode auf dem System ausführen können – in einigen Fällen reicht dazu der Besuch einer manipulierten Webseite oder das Öffnen einer präparierten E-Mail oder Datei.

Also ich habe gerade versucht das Januar Update von Windows Insider zu installieren doch leider ohne Erfolg. Beim Neustartversuch kommt die Fehlermeldung 0x800706ba ( angeblich RPC Server ) und nach manuellem Neustart bleibt das Update bei 85 % miteinfrieren des kompletten Systems stehen. Systemänderungen wurden zurückgesetzt. Das ganze hab ich jetzt 2 mal versucht . Lieber warte ich jetzt bis die den Bug entfernt haben.

Es gibt jedoch noch einen Trick, um kostenlos an Windows 10 zu kommen: Nutzern von Hilfstechnologien bietet Microsoft das Upgrade von früheren Windows-Versionen nämlich kostenlos an. Die neue Version kann man von dieser Webseite beziehen. Eigentlich richtet sich das Angebot an Menschen mit Behinderungen. Ein Nachweis wird aber nicht verlangt.

Außerdem gibt es natürlich immer die Möglichkeit, Windows endgültig Lebewohl zu sagen und zu Linux oder MacOS zu wechseln. Ersteres ist definitiv die günstigere Variante. Nach dem Support-Aus für Windows XP ist jetzt Windows 7 an der Reihe. Am 14. Januar 2020 wird Microsoft keine weiteren Updates mehr für das fast zehn Jahre alte Betriebssystem bereitstellen. Die weitere Nutzung wird danach zum Risiko, da Sicherheitslücken und Fehler nicht mehr behoben werden. Eine Ausnahme macht der Konzern für Unternehmen, die ab 2020 für den Support bezahlen müssen, wenn sie weiterhin bei Windows 7 bleiben wollen.

Microsoft hatte das Support-Ende für Windows 7 bereits 2014 angekündigt und Nutzer regelmäßig daran erinnert. Die Strategie des Software-Konzerns ist klar: Microsoft will den Marktanteil von Windows 10 steigern. Tatsächlich hat das neue Betriebssystem im Dezember 2018 erstmals seinen Vorgänger überholt und sich an die Spitze der meist genutzten Betriebssysteme gesetzt. Das liegt vermutlich daran, dass zu Weihnachten neue Notebooks und PCs verschenkt wurden, auf denen Windows 10 vorinstalliert ist.

Doch was bedeutet das Support-Aus für Nutzer eines älteren Rechners? Weltweit läuft Windows 7 immerhin auf rund 37 Prozent der Windows-Computer. In Deutschland betrifft es knapp 30 Prozent aller PCs. Für diese Nutzer ist jetzt vielleicht die Zeit für ein Upgrade gekommen – oder für ein neues Gerät. Beides ist natürlich mit Kosten verbunden.

Normalerweise kostet Windows 10 für zu Hause 145 Euro. Die Professional-Version ist teurer (259 Euro). Im ersten Jahr hatte Microsoft das Upgrade für Windows 7- oder Windows 8-Nutzer noch kostenlos angeboten. Doch diese Schonfrist ist längst verstrichen.

This means the priority is now bringing the operating system to existing or new Windows 10 devices. Panay, though, says Microsoft will still continue to work with its partners on dual-screen devices like the Surface Neo, but will “continue to look for the right moment” when to launch.

In addition to the shift in Windows 10X, Panay also discussed how current versions of Windows 10 are being used across the world. Panay says that more than 4 trillion minutes are being spent on Windows 10 a month, a 75% increase year on year. This comes after Windows hit the 1 billion monthly active devices mark in March.

Although he didn’t provide a specific release date, Pany’s post also details the May 2020 Update to Windows 10. He shares that when it comes “later this month,” it will ” make some things easier and faster.” The update includes enhancements to Cortana and a new Cloud Download feature helps users reset their PCs.

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) unveiled its new video standard that allows PCs to connect to 16K displays using a USC-C cable through the DisplayPort standard.

The new DisplayPort Alt Mode version 2.0 is capable of handling video data for up to two 8K displays or a single 16K display over USB-C and has a maximum bandwidth of nearly 80 Gigabits per second (Gbps) — nearly triple that of the older DisplayPort 1.4 protocol.

That means you can connect a monitor with a whopping resolution of 15,360 × 8,460 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz to your desktop or laptop over USB-C. While this may sound exciting, the standard won’t start appearing in products until 2021.

For consumers, the wait won’t be too big of a deal given that there isn’t much mainstream video content on the market that exceeds 4K resolution today. Sure, 8K digital cameras are coming, but experts say you don’t need them. Gamers may be drawn to the visual fidelity afforded by 8K and 16K panels, but the slower 60Hz refresh rate in even the best 144Hz panels of 2020 could limit the appeal of these high-resolution panels among enthusiasts.

At least initially, the standard will likely find interest among photographers and creatives working with 8K content.

“With DisplayPort Alt Mode, the USB-C connector can transmit up to 80 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of DisplayPort video data utilizing all four high-speed lanes in the cable, or up to 40 Gbps with simultaneous SuperSpeed USB data delivery,” the Association said in a prepared statement. The DisplayPort Alt Mode 2.0 is built using USB4 specifications, and VESA worked with the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) to drive the new features of the Alt Mode 2.0.

The DisplayPort 2.0 protocol was initially unveiled last year and provides support for features like higher refresh rates, high dynamic range (HDR) content, multi-display setups, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) displays, and beyond-8K resolutions.

Microsoft confirmed previous rumors that it’s upcoming Windows 10X operating system once intended for only dual-screen devices, will be coming to laptops and tablets, too.

According to a post penned Panos Panay, the chief product officer of Windows and Devices at Microsoft, the flexibility of Windows 10X has enabled the company to focus its resources “toward single-screen Windows 10X devices that leverage the power of the cloud.”

Conversely, the best laptops in the world might tick every box, but if you pay for features or hardware you don’t need, you’re just wasting your money.

Chances are good that if a laptop strains your budget, it has something that you don’t need. A new MacBook Pro with top-specifications can cost up to $6,000 — but very few people need 4TB of storage space on their laptop. You can get yourself the same machine with the exact same specifications apart from less storage for half that price, and you can get plenty of cheap storage from an external drive.

Gaming laptops can be notoriously expensive too, but if you’re only playing indie games you don’t need all that hardware. Buy what you need, and try not to go overboard.

It’s an old bit of advice, but it still holds true. Unless you are obsessed with getting the latest tech, a new laptop should last a few years, and likely more if you want to save money on another purchase. Instead of buying a laptop exclusively for your needs right now, you should buy one for where you think you’ll be in a couple of years.

You might be tempted to opt for a base model for its low price tag, with something like 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive. That’s going to limit its long-term appeal, though, because it will quickly run out of storage space and may not handle multiple applications well. Going for a step-up model with a bigger drive and more RAM is probably a good idea.

Not all laptops include the ports you depend on. Many modern laptops, like our favorite Dell XPS 13, only have Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C ports. If you need USB-A or an SD card reader, make sure your chosen laptop has those specific ports before buying or budget for an adapter.

A device boasting a 4K display is certainly worth more than a cursory glance, but it’s not always the right choice as smaller screens don’t let you enjoy the full benefit of the higher resolution.

Worse still, 4K screens can have a big impact on your device’s battery life. Many 4K notebooks have lackluster endurance with higher resolution screens and really, you won’t see a lot of benefits. Unless you’re buying a super high-end gaming laptop or one with a huge screen, we’d recommend 1080p for savings on your wallet and battery life.

If you can, always give the laptop you’re considering a proper test drive before buying. Many everyday laptops are available for testing at big brick-and-mortar stores such as Apple, Best Buy, and the Microsoft Store, allowing you to fiddle with the touchpad, keyboard, software interface, and other components that substantially differ from model to model.

It’s easy to overlook the importance of features absent from the spec sheet, such as the touchpad’s responsiveness or the visibility of a glossy screen in daylight, and there’s just no substitution for getting a real hands-on feel of what it’s like to use.

Size matters, especially when it comes to a laptop. Whereas a bigger display allows for a more expansive and often better viewing experience, it also cuts into the portability factor. A laptop’s size often determines the size of the keyboard and trackpad, meaning you’ll likely be cramped when opting for a laptop measuring less than 13 inches.

The best way to figure out what you need is to consider how you’ve used laptops in the past. A smaller ultrabook may be a viable option for frequent travelers, but for those looking for a standard laptop, you’ll probably want to opt for one with a 13.3- or 14-inch screen. If you rarely leave your home with your system, consider a 15.6-inch model for maximum screen real estate.

Becoming obsessed with one specification

Tunnel vision is bad news when buying a laptop. While it’s fun to pit spec sheets against each other, avoid picking out one particular specification as your favorite and only looking at that factor. While you should have a baseline specification in mind — to make sure that you get the performance you need, don’t obsess over maximizing on any single specification.

It’s easy to be excited about paying a little extra for double the RAM, for example, but most people don’t need any more than 8GB unless you are using some serious software for work purposes.

Auf dem Gerät ist Windows 10 Home installiert. Außerdem erhält der Nutzer jeweils eine einmonatige Testversion für Office 365 und der Antiviren-Software McAfee LiveSafe.

Das Notebook ist seit dem 31. Januar bei Aldi Nord erhältlich. Ab dem 7. Februar kann man es auch in den Filialen von Aldi Süd kaufen. Es soll 399 Euro kosten. Medion verspricht eine dreijährige Garantie auf die Geräte.

Erste Tests des Notebooks, etwa von heise oder Chip.de loben vor allem die Display-Qualität. Bei der Arbeitsleistung zeigt das Notebook aber ein paar Schwächen. Die Tester bemängeln zu wenig Arbeitsspeicher. Für Office-Anwendungen, Web-Anwendungen und Alltagsaufgaben reicht diese zwar aus. Zur Video- oder Bildbearbeitung sollte man aber zu einem leistungsfähigeren Gerät greifen.

Fazit: Den Herstellerangaben nach zu urteilen bietet das neue Medion-Notebook eine sehr gute Ausstattung. In der Laptop-Mittelklasse ist die Auswahl jedoch so groß, dass Nutzer zahlreiche, ebenso gute Alternativen hat. In Büro geht nichts ohne sie. Aber auch beim Zocken am PC stehen sie gemeinsam mit der Maus im Mittelpunkt. Tastaturen müssen unterschiedlichsten Ansprüchen genügen. Daher spezialisieren die Hersteller ihre Produkte immer mehr.

Neben den klassischen Allroundern hat sich etwa ein breites Angebot für Vielschreiber und Gamer etabliert, erklärt Julius Beineke vom Fachmagazin "c't". Zum Anforderungsprofil an Vielschreiber-Tastaturen gehört neben guten Schaltern ein ordentliches Tippgefühl, eine geringe Lärmentwicklung sowie gegebenenfalls zusätzliche Tasten, Regler sowie teils auch ein Trackball oder ein Touchpad. Welcher Typ Schalter unter den Tasten stecken sollte, weil sich mit ihm am angenehmsten schreiben lässt, ist am Ende Geschmackssache. Beineke empfiehlt vor dem Kauf einen Schreibgefühl-Test im Fachhandel.

Auch Notebook-Nutzer sollten an ihrem Arbeitsplatz eine externe Tastatur und am besten auch einen Monitor haben. Denn die feste Anordnung von Tastatur und Display sorgt bei Laptops schnell für eine unbequeme bis ungesunde Schreibhaltung. Ohnehin: Wer viel schreibt, spürt das oft schmerzlich an den Gelenken, insbesondere an denen der Hände und der Arme. Ergonomische Tastaturen sollen die Gelenke schonen und gesundheitlichen Problemen vorbeugen.

Gerade für Menschen, die beruflich den ganzen Tag am Bildschirm arbeiten, ist das Gesundheitsrisiko durch eine schlechte Haltung der Hände hoch, erklärt Arbeitsmedizinerin Wiete Schramm vom Tüv Rheinland. Deswegen haben ergonomische Tastaturen kein durchgängiges Tastenfeld, sondern zwei nach außen geneigte Felder mit einer Aussparung in der Mitte. So können die Hände in einer Linie mit den Unterarmen schreiben und die Handgelenke werden weniger beansprucht.

Vollwertige ergonomische Tastaturen erlauben sogar eine freie Einstellung des Haltungswinkels der Hände sowie der Breite der Aussparung zwischen den beiden Tastenfeldern. Ebenso wichtig ist eine Handballenauflage. Die Möglichkeit, die Tastatur über ausklappbare Füße an der Unterseite aufzustellen, damit die Handgelenke beim Schreiben nicht zu stark abknicken, ist dagegen nur zweite Wahl.

Damit sind die Datenschutzeinstellungen abgeschlossen. Wer diese nicht eigenhändig vornehmen will, kann Software wie W10Privacy nutzen. "Damit ist es etwas übersichtlicher, die Einstellungen zu setzen", sagt Schüßler. Der Zeitaufwand sei aber vergleichbar zum Einrichten der Datenschutzeinstellungen ohne zusätzliches Tool. Jörg Geiger vom Fachmagazin "Chip" rät für eine leichtere Einrichtung zur Anwendung O&O Shutup10. Sie sei sehr übersichtlich und gut gepflegt.

Wer beim Kauf von Windows-Diensten wie Microsoft Office sparen will, findet im Internet zahlreiche Angebote. Nutzer sollten bei zu günstigen Schlüsseln aber aufpassen. Diese haben keine Lizenz und können von Microsoft gesperrt werden. Davor warnt das Computermagazin "c't".

Das ist in der Vergangenheit schon einige Male passiert. Programme wie Office lassen sich dann nicht mehr nutzen, auch wenn Nutzer sie mit den Billig-Keys vorher problemlos aktivieren konnten.Solche Top-Angebote finden sich beispielsweise auf eBay. Händler verlangen dort meist weniger als 10 Euro. Zum Vergleich: Microsoft selbst verkauft Office "Home & Student" einmalig für 149 Euro. "Home und Business" kostet 299 Euro. Andere Anbieter verkaufen Lizenzschlüssel für knapp 100 bis 230 Euro, schreibt "c't".

Laut "c't" stammen solche günstigen Schlüssel meist aus Volumlizenzen für Firmen. Das ist vor allem der Fall, wenn Händler einen Schlüssel für "Office Professional Plus" anbieten. Diese Version können Privatanwender nicht erwerben.

Wie "c't" berichtet, beziehen Verkäufer die Billig-Schlüssel "über spezielle Key-Börsen, die Produktschlüssel aus dubiosen Quellen in großen Mengen zu Schleuderpreisen anbieten." Der Verkauf solcher Schlüssel ist illegal. Privatkunden selbst hatten bisher aber rechtlich nichts zu befürchten.

Im Internet finden sich viele kostenlose Alternativen zu Microsoft Office. Bekannt sind beispielsweise LibreOffice oder OpenOffice. Beide Tools bieten ähnliche Funktionen wie Microsoft Office. Auch können sie Office-Dateien öffnen und bearbeiten.

You’re definitely going to feel it inside your bag and it can be quite heavy when used one-handed.

The included stylus pen can be pulled out from the right front edge of the device. While accurate and precise, it’s actually quite tiny since it’s built-in, but we’re OK with that. This Chromebook’s 11.6-inch IPS display is a little dim for our taste. We had difficulty seeing it outside especially when the sun was at its peak. It’s best to just use it indoors. And even though the screen is already quite small, it looks conspicuously pixelated. Clearly, the display is not a high point.

The same thing cannot be said though about the keyboard, which offers an outstanding typing experience. Given that the Chrome OS is already a lightweight operating system, the Lenovo Chromebook C330’s 12-hour battery life is still pretty impressive.

Employing a MediaTek MTK 8173C processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB eMMC, the Lenovo Chromebook C330 is more than capable of handling basic productivity tasks and internet browsing. You can have multiple tabs open in Chrome and run a few Android apps at the same time with no discernible problem.

Sogenannte Richtlinien für Softwareeinschränkungen schützen den PC zusätzlich vor Malware aus dem Internet. Microsoft bietet die Funktion standardmäßig aber nur Profi-Anwendern an. Privatleute müssen einen Umweg gehen.

Wer Windows anweist, dass es nur Programme aus einer vorher festgelegten Liste ausführen darf, lebt sicherer. Denn so wird Hackern und Malware wie etwa Verschlüsselungstrojanern die Möglichkeit genommen, Schaden anzurichten.

Diese sogenannten Richtlinien für Softwareeinschränkung finden sich allerdings nur in den für Unternehmenseinsatz vorgesehenen Professional-, Enterprise- und Ultimate-Ausgaben von Windows. In den Home-Versionen für Endanwender fehlen die Software Restriction Policies (SRP), wie sie auf Englisch heißen. Allerdings lassen sie sich mit dem kostenlosen Tool "Restric'tor" der Fachzeitschrift "c't" nachrüsten (hier geht's zum Download).

Eine einfache, aber sichere Konfiguration erreicht man, indem der Menübefehl "Datei/"c't"-Empfehlung laden" und anschließend "Datei/Ordner prüfen" aufgerufen wird, erklären die Experten. Auf dem erscheinenden Dialogfenster klickt man auf "Ordner suchen" und wartet, bis die Suche abgeschlossen ist, wählt "OK" und übernimmt die Einstellungen mit einem Klick auf "Anwenden" am unteren Rand des "Restric'tor"-Fensters.

"Dienste, die Sie nicht brauchen oder deren Aktionen Sie nicht verstehen, sollten deaktiviert werden." Diese sechs Einstellungen sollten Sie sich anschauen und anpassen.
