Sebastian Lorenz-Tietz ist gut gelaunt. Im Februar 2018 hat der heute 39-Jährige das UnternehmenGartentechnik Delitzsch an der Leipziger Straße übernommen. Mit Blick auf die beiden von Trockenheit geprägten zurückliegenden Jahre, hätte seine Zeit als Inhaber wohl kaum herausfordernder beginnen können.

Kein Ende nach Ladenschluss

Dennoch ist die 2001 gegründete Firma, die Garten- und Wassertechnik verkauft, ausleiht und repariert, ein Paradebeispiel für eine gelungene Nachfolgeregelung im Handwerk. Grund genug für Claus Gröhn, Präsident der Handwerkskammer zu Leipzig (HWK), auf ein Gespräch vorbeizuschauen und zu fragen: „Was hat gut geklappt, wo hapert es, wo können wir helfen?“

Geschäftsführer Lorenz-Tietz beschäftigt aktuell fünf Mitarbeiter für den Verkauf, die Werkstatt und kaufmännische Belange. Darunter sind auch die ehemaligen Inhaber, die in den kommenden Jahren schrittweise in den Ruhestand übergehen werden. Bereits die Aufgabe sie zu ersetzen, wird für das Unternehmen nicht einfach. Der neue Inhaber ist jedoch zuversichtlich, dass es funktioniert.

Viel eher sei der zeitliche Aufwand ein Problem. Die Arbeit von Lorenz-Dietz ende nicht etwa eine halbe Stunde nach Ladenschluss. Wenn seine Kinder im Bett sind, setzt er sich noch einmal an den Laptop, beantwortet E-Mails, führt Schriftverkehr mit Herstellern und Lieferanten, holt sich Angebote ein. Dann werden „die Dinge erledigt, für die im Tagesgeschäft keine Zeit war“, sagt der Gartentechnik-Chef. „Als Faustregel“, erklärt Gröhn, „sagen wir: Ein Tag in der Woche Bürokratie muss für den Handwerksmeister ausreichen.“

Vom Kommen und Wiederkommen

65 bis 70 Stunden habe er in der ersten Zeit nach der Übernahme pro Woche gearbeitet, sagt Lorenz-Dietz. Mittlerweile sei er bei 60 Stunden. „Wir sind dazu übergegangen, Urlaub machen zu müssen.“ Er sei zwar „kein Lithium-Akku“, aber er wisse, wo die Grenze ist. Altersnachfolgen seien derzeit auch aus diesem Grund oft zu unlukrativ, sagt Gröhn. Die Handwerkskammer setze sich daher dafür ein, mehr Anreize für junge Leute zu schaffen.

Das verbindende Element zur HWK ist für die Gartentechnik die eigene Werkstatt. Es werde immer schwieriger für Kunden, jemanden zu finden, der Geräte markenunabhängig repariert, erklärt Lorenz-Dietz. Er versuche immer zu helfen. „Wir leben davon, dass die Kunden wiederkommen“, sagt der gelernte Kfz-Meister. Auch aus diesem Grund verzichte er trotz existierender Website noch auf einen Onlineshop. Dort könne er die Leute nicht richtig beraten.

Hinter den Notebooks der neuen ProArt-Reihe steckt ein interessantes Konzept. Die sechs verschiedenen Geräte für unterschiedliche Ansprüche sollen nicht weniger sein, als mobile Workstations. Dafür stecken Intel-Xeon-Prozessoren im Inneren, Unmengen Arbeitsspeicher und teils Grafikkarten, die selbst Spielerherzen höher schlagen lassen würden.

Bei richtig fixen Shootern kommt es noch auf die kleinste Millisekunde an. Bei Republic of Gamers gibt es jetzt ein Notebook mit 300 Hertz Bildwiederholfrequenz. Das nötige Kleingeld vorausgesetzt, soll die High-End-Gamingmaschine Zephyrus S GX701 (17 Zoll, rund 3.400 Euro) das entscheidende Quäntchen mehr Tempo und damit vielleicht den ersten Treffer im Online-Duell möglich machen. Battery Life

No matter which Dell XPS 13 9370 configuration you choose, you'll get above-average battery life, but a model with the 1080p non-touch screen lasts several hours longer. The XPS 13 9370 with 1080p non-touch screen lasted 12 hours and 37 minutes on the Laptop Battery Test, which involves continuous surfing over Wi-Fi. The model with the 4K display endured for 8 hours and 53 minutes. Those numbers compare favorably to the ultraportable category average (8:16) and the HP Spectre 13's time of 6:16.

However, Dell's slightly older XPS 9360 with 1080p screen lasted a much-longer 16 hours and 5 minutes on our test. That's because, in making its laptop thinner and lighter, Dell switched from a 60 watt-hour battery on the 9360 to a 52 watt-hour unit on the 9370.

Both XPS 13 9370 configurations we tried stayed pleasantly cool throughout our testing. After streaming a video for 15 minutes, the touchpad, keyboard and bottom of the Core i7-powered model hit 82, 86.5 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit, all well below our 95-degree comfort threshold. The Core i5 model got similar temperatures of 80, 85.5 and 88 degrees.

Dell's Power Manager app allows you to configure the laptop's thermal management for maximum performance, lowest temperature or least noise. We used the default, Optimized setting during most of our testing, and the laptop always felt cool to the touch. However, when we switched to the "Ultra Performance" mode we got slightly higher scores, but the top of the keyboard hit 115 degrees.

Image quality was on a par with other premium laptops; colors like the blue and gray in my shirt were true, and there was only a limited amount of visual noise in the background.

Dell preloads the XPS 13 9370 with a few useful utilities and some bloatware. Dell Power Manager lets you tweak the system settings for maximum performance (with more heat and noise), coolest skin temperature, quietest fan noise or a balance among the three. Dell Help & Support offers tutorials and warrant information. Dell SupportAssist checks system health, shows configuration information and helps you download new drivers. Dell remote Desktop lets you remote-control the laptop from another device.

The system also comes with its fair share of bloat. Dell packs on a trial of McAfee LiveSafe and a Dropbox promotion, which gives new users 20GB of free space for a year. Microsoft packs on its standard set of Windows 10 pre-loads, including Minecraft, March of Empires, Bubble Witch 3 Saga, Autodesk Sketchbook and a link to purchase Drawboard PDF.

Dell offers several configurations of the XPS 13 9370, with prices ranging from $849 to well over $2,000. The $849 base model has a 1080p non-touch screen, a Core i3-8130 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD; the white model costs $50 more.

We recommend the $1,099 model, which includes a Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The tricked-out, $1,869 model has a 4K touch screen, a Core i7-8550U CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. A 512GB SSD costs $150 more and a 1TB SSD runs $750.

If battery life is your highest priority, get a model with the 1080p non-touch screen, but the vibrant colors on the 4K panel make it an even more attractive choice.

From its eye-popping 4K display to its speedy performance and beautiful design, there's a lot to love about the Dell XPS 13 9370. Although still not ideal, its centered webcam is a huge improvement over the left-aligned one on prior models. The 9370's ability to work with eGPUs also makes it a great choice for people who want to play demanding games.

Consumers who demand the longest possible endurance or who can't live without USB Type-A ports should consider the XPS 13 9360, which Dell will continue to sell for the foreseeable future. However, if you want the best combination of performance, portability and aesthetics, the XPS 13 9370 is made for you.

The XPS 13 9370's side-mounted speakers deliver audio that's loud, but rough around the edges. When I played AC/DC's "Back in Black," the music was boisterous enough to more than fill our lab, but the guitar and drums were a little harsh and tinny. The pre-loaded Waves MaxxAudio software allows you to fine-tune the equalizer. Disabling MaxxAudio, which is on by default, made the music sound hollow and distant.

The XPS 13 9370's keyboard offers a solid typing experience, even though the keys are a little on the shallow side. Perhaps because the laptop is so thin, the keys have 1.2 millimeters of travel (1.5 to 2mm is common on mainstream laptops), but they make up for it somewhat by providing a good 72 grams of required actuation force. On the Tenfastfingers.com typing test, I reached a modest rate of 94 words per minute with a 4 percent error rate, which is on the low end of my normal range.

Dell XPS 13 (9370) keyboardWhether I was double-clicking on icons or highlighting small pieces of text in an article, the 4.1 x 2.4-inch, buttonless touchpad provided extremely accurate navigation, without any sticking or jumping. The left and right click areas provided just the right amount of tactile feedback. The pad also responded immediately and accurately to multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom and three-finger swipe.

Performance

For this review, we tested two different configurations of the XPS 13 9370. The high-end model sported a Core i7-8550U CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and a 4K touch screen, while the mainstream model had a Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 1080p non-touch screen. From surfing the web to light gaming and writing portions of this review, both versions of the XPS 13 9370 handled everything we threw at them, without a hiccup.

Because it uses a new thermal setup with dual fans, dual heat pipes and special thermal insulation, the XPS 13 9370 is able to prevent its processor from throttling as aggressively as many other laptops.

Thanks to Dell's new cooling system, these laptops were also capable of delivering better sustained performance on long tasks, such as compressing a 4K video or running the same benchmark 10 times in a row.

As they heat up during intense tasks, most laptops slow their CPUs down to cool them down. Because it uses a new thermal setup with dual fans, dual heat pipes and special thermal insulation, the XPS 13 9370 is able to prevent its processor from throttling as aggressively as many other laptops.

We saw evidence of the performance improvement during our video compression test where we use Handbrake to transcode a 4K video to 1080p. The Core i7-powered XPS 13 9370 took just 16 minutes to complete this task. he XPS 13 9360, on the other hand, which had the same exact Core i7-8550U CPU, took 19 minutes and 35 seconds.

We also ran the Cinebench R15 benchmark, which measures processing power by drawing a 3D image 10 times in a row on a few different laptops. The XPS 13 9370 with the Core i7 processor got a score of 679 on the first run (higher is better), which dropped to 635 on run No. 10, a decline of 6.4 percent. Its Core i5-powered sibling, however, went from 666 to 633, a drop of 4.9 percent. When we tried the same task on a Microsoft Surface Book 2 (13-inch) with Core i7-8550U, it suffered a 26 percent decline from first to last run. An HP Spectre x360 with the same Core i7 processor remained perfectly stable, getting a much lower mark of 456 on both the first and final runs.

Using the Dell Power Manager app, you can configure the laptop's thermal management to offer "Ultra Performance," with warmer temperatures. We ran Cinebench 15 10 times in this mode, and the scores ranged from 707 on the first run to 655 on the 10th run. Though, those are higher numbers, we also experienced higher temperatures, with the function row hitting a balmy 115 degrees by the end of the last run. We recommend sticking with the default, "Optimized" mode, which gives you the best balance between performance and skin temperature.

When we ran Geekbench 4, a synthetic test that measures processing performance, the Core Core i5-8250U-powered XPS 13 9370 scored 13,254, while the Core i7-8550U-enabled version registered 14,180. The last-gen Dell XPS 13 9360 with the same Core i7-8550U CPU scored a very similar mark of 14,158. HP's Spectre 13, also with Core i7-8550U inside, scored a lower mark of 13,090. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon and its last-gen Core i7-7600U processor, hit only 8,571.

The XPS 13 9370 with Core i7 took just 1 minute and 6 seconds to match 50,000 names with their addresses in Microsoft Excel. The Core i5 model finished in 1 minute and 15 seconds, while the XPS 13 9360 fell in between the two with 1:08.

The 1TB PCIe SSD in the Core i7-powered XPS 13 9370 took just 13 seconds to copy 4.97GB of files, a rate of 399.4 MBps, while the 256GB unit in the Core i5 model performed the same task at a rate of 339.2 MBps. Both numbers are much better than the category average (232 MBps) and the X1 Carbon (242 MBps). The XPS 13 9360 with 256GB SSD was even faster, achieving a rate of 508 MBps. The HP Spectre 13 (339.3 MBps) basically tied the Core i5-powered XPS 13 9370.

WIth its integrated Intel UHD 620 GPU, the XPS 13 9370 is good enough for doing light video editing or playing some games at low settings. Its Core i7- and Core i5-powered models scored 85,616 and 77,584, respectively, on 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, a synthetic graphics test. Both models were far ahead of the category average (62,573), the HP Spectre 13 (75,114) and the X1 Carbon (68,082). The XPS 13 9360 fell in between the two with a mark of 81,837.

Stolzenburgs Eltern hatten einen Ausreiseantrag gestellt und sind von Meiningen nach Flensburg übergesiedelt. Nun zieht es sie ein letztes Mal weiter: ins Altenheim nach Dänemark, weil es dort „viel besser und netter“ ist.

Für Stolzenburg bedeutete die Ausreise seiner Eltern damals ein erstes Ende einer akademischen Laufbahn. So war er von Berlin nach Leipzig gekommen. Und später dann, in den ersten Jahren am Institut, ein ehrgeiziger, bewunderter Dozent. „Er war nicht immer so übersättigt und zynisch gewesen.“

Doch jetzt, da man ein Diplom nicht mehr „mit Fleiß und bestandenen Prüfungen erwerben“ muss, sondern es, etwas Geld vorausgesetzt, „auch vor einem Gericht erstreiten“ kann, lebt er quasi von der Hand in den Mund. Auch im existenziellen Sinn. Er hält sich mit Vorträgen, Aufsätzen und Rezensionen über Wasser, und als ihn das Finanzamt mit einer Steuernachforderung von knapp 11500 Euro überrascht, wird es wirklich eng für Stolzenburg. Die Folgen eines Berechnungsfehlers bringen ihn mit der Gegenwart zusammen: Klemens Gaede, Steuerberater und „fabelhaftes Schlitzohr“, der an der Börse spekuliert und für das Geld, das Stolzenburg im Monat verdient, nicht einmal aufstehen würde.

Auch bei der Leistung des Hauptprozessors muss sich das große iPad nicht hinter herkömmlichen PCs verstecken. Zwar gilt die von Apple im iPhone und iPad verwendete Chip-Architektur von ARM generell als weniger leistungsstark als die herkömmlichen PC-Chips der x86er-Architektur. Der im iPad Pro verbaute Apple-Chip A9X (zwei Kerne, bis 2,2 GHz) erreicht auf dem Messstand die Werte eines Mittelklasse-Notebooks, bei der Grafik-Leistung eilt das große iPad sogar dem MacBook Pro davon.

Beim Anschauen von Filmen glänzt das Tablet. Dazu trägt nicht nur die Darstellungs-Qualität des Displays bei, das liegt auch an den vier Lautsprechern, die sich an den Ecken des Riesen-iPads befinden. Sie haben kräftige Bässe und deutlich mehr Stimmgewalt als die des iPad Mini oder iPad Air. Beim Lesen von E-Books ist die große Anzeige aber eher hinderlich. Über einen längeren Zeitraum hinweg kann man das 713 Gramm schwere Gerät nicht mit einer Hand halten. Die leichteren und kompakten iPad-Modelle sind da klar im Vorteil.

Für Vieltipper hat Apple - gegen 179 Euro Aufpreis - mit dem Smart Keyboard eine Mischung aus Schutzhülle und Tastatur im Angebot. Es wird über den sogenannten Smart Connector angeschlossen, der es auch mit Strom versorgt. Im Test überzeugte es nicht. Zum einen liefert Apple seine Tastatur bislang nur im US-Layout QWERTY (nicht das deutsche QWERTZ mit Umlauten) aus. Außerdem ist der Druckpunkt der Tasten für Vielschreiber reichlich unpräzise. Immerhin gibt es einen Ersatz: Logitech bietet für 30 Euro weniger die kompatible Tastatur Create mit hintergrundbeleuchteten Tasten an, mit der auch Profi-Schreiber gut zurecht kommen.

Mit ihm kann man auf dem Bildschirm malen, schreiben und zeichnen, zum einen in der iOS-App Notizen und speziellen Apps wie Adobe Sketch, Adobe Draw, Procreate und Zen Brush. Designer loben die Qualität des Pencil beim Zeichnen, vermissen aber insbesondere in den Adobe-Apps Funktionen, die sie von den Mac-Versionen her gewohnt sind. Leider kann der 109 Euro teure Pencil nirgendwo magnetisch angedockt werden.

Fazit: Mit dem neuen iPad Pro hat Apple einen Tablet-Computer auf den Markt gebracht, der in vielen Details überzeugen kann. Für etliche Anwender könnte er auch ein Notebook ersetzen, wenn es um Aufgabengebiete wie E-Mails, Websurfen und kreative Aufgaben geht. Wer intensiv mit Tabellenkalkulationen arbeitet oder viele Inhalte zwischen verschiedenen Dokumenten austauscht, findet im iPad Pro aber keinen perfekten PC-Ersatz. Zwar bietet das neue Betriebssystem iOS 9 inzwischen einen "Split View" an, bei dem sich zwei Dokumente nebeneinander darstellen und Inhalte übertragen lassen. Der Modus wird aber längst nicht von allen iOS-Programmen unterstützt.

Mit der Ladestation wolle man das Portfolio, das sich bisher auf Stahlmöbel konzentriert, erweitern und in den Vermietmarkt einsteigen, kündigt André Trautner an und spricht von einem geplanten „spürbaren Wachstum“. Mit dem Smartphone lässt sich unterwegs einiges anstellen: Im Netz surfen, Filme anschauen, filmen, navigieren oder natürlich auch telefonieren. Doch schnell erscheint der Hinweis "Ladegerät anschließen", sonst ist kurz danach Schluss - oder etwa doch nicht?Wer sein Smartphone aktiv nutzt, kommt mit einer Akkuladung kaum länger als einen Tag aus. Je nach Gerät und Anwendung können es auch nur fünf bis sechs Stunden sein. Wer dann neue Energie braucht, holt sie sich aus der nächsten Steckdose.

Wo es die nicht gibt, braucht es kreative Lösungen. Eine Auswahl:Der Zigarettenanzünder im Auto ist kaum noch als Raucherutensil, sondern in Verbindung mit einem Ladeadapter vielmehr als Stromlieferant für Smartphone, Navi und Co gefragt. "Dabei ist es wichtig, auf die richtige Kapazität zu achten", sagt Wiebke Hellmann vom Fachmagazin "Chip". "Wenn der Output nicht mindestens ein Ampere beträgt, dauert das Laden ewig." Das Kabel am oder zum Adapter sollte zudem hochwertig und nicht als billige Spirale ausgeführt sein.

Auch das Notebook kann als Energiespender fürs Handy dienen, insbesondere wenn es noch voll geladen ist: "Ein Smartphone braucht etwa zwei Amperestunden bei fünf Volt", rechnet Bernd Schwenke von der Stiftung Warentest vor. Das bedeute, dass eine Komplettladung nicht mehr als zehn Wattstunden des Notebook-Akkus kostet - typische Laptop-Akkus hätten etwa 50 bis 80 Wattstunden.

Populär und günstig sind zudem mobile Zusatzakkus, auch Powerbanks genannt. Manche kosten weniger als 10, nur wenige mehr als 30 Euro. Einige sind nicht größer als ein Feuerzeug, andere so groß wie ein Smartphone und etwas schwerer. "Mit den kleinen Zusatzakkus lässt sich ein Smartphone nur einmal, mit größeren vier bis sechs Mal laden" sagt Projektleiter Schwenke, der für die Stiftung Warentest kürzlich 20 der mobilen Stromspeicher getestet hat.

Powerbanks taugen auch über einen längeren Zeitraum als mobile Notreserve: "Nach 28 Tagen war in allen Akkus noch genug Energie, um ein Handy zu laden", berichtet Schwenke. Allerdings gelte dies für neue Powerbanks. Nach drei bis vier Jahren müsse man damit rechnen, dass ihre Leistung nachlässt oder dass sie kaputt gehen. Das könne auch passieren, wenn eine Powerbank kaum genutzt wird: "Auch längere Nichtaktivität ist für Batterien Stress", erläutert der Elektroingenieur. "Zu viel laden ist schlecht, zu selten auch."

Solarzellen hält Schwenke eher für eine Notlösung: "Nach sieben Stunden im gleißenden Sonnenlicht" seien beim Test eines Solarzellen-Laders weniger als 600 Milliamperestunden (mAh) geflossen, der Akku eines durchschnittlichen Smartphones also weniger als ein Viertel gefüllt. Bei bedecktem Himmel sei die Bilanz noch schlechter: "Es gibt eine große Linearität zwischen Intensität des Lichts und der Strommenge, die ich entnehmen kann."

Mit rund 30 Euro lagen die beiden untersuchten Solar-Lader zudem im oberen Preissegment der Testgeräte. Dennoch seien Anwendungszwecke denkbar: "Wenn sie die Solarzelle bei einer Wanderung im Sonnenlicht auf dem Rucksack liegen haben und nur telefonieren oder SMS verschicken", könne der Ladezustand eines damit versorgten Mobiltelefons etwa konstant gehalten werden, sagt Schwenke.

Dynamolader, die mit oder ohne Pufferakku zwischen Nabendynamo und Smartphone gehängt werden, sind indes eine Lösung für Fahrradfahrer, die ihre Muskelkraft gleich auch noch in Energie fürs Handy umwandeln möchten. Wenn das Handy auf dem Campingplatz entladen ist und man eine halbe Stunde zum Bäcker fährt, sei anschließend durchaus schon wieder ein kurzer Anruf drin, erklärt Warentester Schwenke.

If you put the last few generations of the XPS 13 in a lineup, you would not be able to tell them apart, unless you looked at the CPU sticker on the deck. However, the XPS 13 9370 stands out with its new, optional gold-and-white color scheme, along with a slightly slimmer and lighter profile. Dell also sells the 9370 in the XPS 13's traditional silver-and-black aesthetic.

Though it costs a little bit more ($50 extra on the base model), you'll definitely want to get the white color, because it's just plain stunning. The lid and bottom are made from gold-colored aluminum, while the white sides and deck are fashioned from woven crystalline silica fiber. The deck's weave-like texture adds an air of sophistication and felt good against our wrists, though not quite as comfy as the soft-touch carbon-fiber deck on older XPS 13s and on the silver model.

No matter which color you choose, the XPS 13 is a little bit slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. The XPS 13 9370 weighs just 2.65 pounds and is a mere 0.46 inches thick at its thickest point (0.3 inches at its thinnest). The last generation XPS 13 9360 weighs 0.13 pounds more and is 0.14 inches thicker. HP's Spectre 13 is even svelter, weighing 2.4 pounds and measuring 0.41 inches thick. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon tips the scales at 2.49 pounds, but is 0.6 inches.

Unfortunately, when slimming the XPS 13 down to 0.46 inches, Dell had to ditch the standard, USB Type-A ports and full-size SD card reader that appeared on all the previous generations. On the left side of the XPS 13 9370, you'll find two Thunderbolt 3 ports, which can charge the laptop or connect to high-speed peripherals. There's also a Noble lock slot and a battery gauge, which shows the charge level on a series of five white lights.

In a major improvement over the XPS 13 9360, the 9370's Thunderbolt 3 ports support four-lane PCI connections so you can use the laptop with an eGPU (external graphics card) that enables serious gaming. Prior models had only two lanes of PCI connected to their Thunderbolt 3 ports, so they couldn't work properly with external graphics. We tested the XPS 13 9370 with an Aorus Gaming Box 1070, and it worked.

The XPS 13 9370's 13.3-inch, InfinityEdge display has bezels that are 23 percent thinner than the almost nonexistent borders on the XPS 7360. Because there's virtually no frame around the top and sides of the screen, images just seem to pop more.

Dell XPS 13 (9370) displayWe tested the Dell XPS 13 9370 with both a 3840 x 2160 (4K, Ultra HD) touch screen and a 1920 x 1080 non-touch screen. Both models offered impressive brightness, color quality and sharpness, though the 4K screen was noticeably better. When I watched the 4K movie Tears of Steel, the neon pink and green lights impressed on both displays, but were richer on the Ultra HD panel. Fine details, such as the wires on a robot's body and the wrinkles in a character's jacket, stood out on both panels, and colors stayed true, even at 90 degrees to the left or right.

According to our light meter, the XPS 13 9370 with 1080p screen achieved an impressive mark of 372 nits, while the model with the 4K panel blew us away with 415 nits. Both numbers are significantly higher than the ultraportable laptop category average (290 nits), the X1 Carbon (275 nits) and the HP Spectre 13 (247 nits). The XPS 13 9360 with 1080p screen scored a similar 368 nits.

The 1080p screen on the XPS 13 9370 reproduced an impressive 117 percent of the sRGB color gamut, but the 4K panel was much more vibrant, hitting a full 130 percent. Both numbers compare favorably to the category average (105 percent) and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (104 percent with 1080p screen). But the 1080p panel is only 5 to 6 percentage points ahead of the XPS 13 7360 (112 percent) and the Spectre 13 (111 percent).

Dell's XPS 13 has remained our favorite consumer laptop for the past few years, thanks to its beautiful nearly borderless display, light weight and sleek aesthetic. Now, after multiple generations of sticking with the same chassis, Dell's premium flagship has a new design with slimmer dimensions and a beautiful white-and-gold color scheme. In other improvements, the XPS 13 9370 ($849 to start, $1,249 / $2,499 as tested) also offers an optional 4K display, a better webcam, support for eGPUs and a cooling system that promises stronger sustained performance.

However, to make its laptop thinner, Dell switched to a smaller battery and got rid of USB Type-A ports. As a result, some users will prefer the older, XPS 13 9360, which is still for sale and is powered by the same Intel 8th Gen Core CPUs. But if you want the best combination of design, portability and power, the XPS 13 9370 is the ultraporable to beat.

If you want a machine with the most versatility, then your best bet is to go with a 2-in-1 laptop. The Microsoft Surface Go has a fantastic 1800 x 1200 display that punches above its $400 price. It's not only the pixel count that has us impressed, the Surface Go's display also has outstanding qualities. It can reproduce 129.2 percent of the sRGB color gamut and its maximum display brightness tops out at 415 nits, well above the 245 nit average for a budget laptop.

The display is our favorite part of the Surface Go, but it's not the only thing this detachable 2-in-1 has going for it. At a lightweight 1.1 pounds, the Surface Go is easy to carry around your house or take on a trip. It also has a comfortable optional keyboard with a touchpad, and its Windows Hello support makes logging in a breeze. While we wished it lasted longer on a charge, the Surface Go is an enticing 2-in-1 with a top-notch display.

Asus regained its throne atop our Best Chromebook rankings with the new Chromebook Flip C434. New to this year's model is a larger 14-inch display, slimmer display bezels and improved performance thanks to a Core m3-8100Y CPU. This convertible doesn't just impress on paper, either. The 1080p display is plenty vivid and we got more than a day of battery life during our real-world testing. Sure, the $569 Flip C434 is a bit pricey for a Chromebook, but there is currently no better option on the market.

„2016 war das bisher erfolgreichste Jahr in unserer noch jungen Firmengeschichte“, sagt André Trautner (38), der die Rotstahl GmbH 2011 gründete und als Geschäftsführer leitet. Mit der Herstellung von Spinden, Fächerschränken und Umkleide-Mobilar hat sich das Unternehmen einen Namen gemacht.

„Dass wir unseren Kunden zuhören und, wo es Bedarf gibt, ein neues Produkt entwickeln – das zeichnet uns aus“, sagt André Trautner. Die Ladestation stehe beispielhaft für diese Philosophie. Wichtiger noch als das sichere Verstauen von Smartphone und Tablet während einer kurzen Auszeit sei das Aufladen außer Haus: „Wer intensiv mobil kommuniziert, muss früher oder später den Akku wieder füllen.“ Mit der Ladestation gehöre die Suche unterwegs nach einer Steckdose endlich der Vergangenheit an: „Einfach anschließen, einschließen, aufgetankt entnehmen.“ Die Station sei aktuell mit fünf verschiedenen Stecker-Systemen ausgerüstet. Mit wenigen Handgriffen könne der Betreiber diese Auswahl erweitern, ohne die Fächer öffnen zu müssen. Zudem biete man robuste und bedienerfreundliche Schließsysteme: ohne Touch Screen und komplizierte Menüs. „Unsere Station ist so gestaltet, dass ein Rollstuhlfahrer die unteren Fächer bequem erreicht“, sagt Trautner. Selbst in die oberen Fächer könne der Nutzer hineinschauen und sich überzeugen, dass er alles entnommen habe.

„Die Ladestation ist ein zusätzlicher und kostenloser Service für unsere Gäste“, sagt „Riff“-Betriebsleiterin Annett Koza. Man lege ohnehin Wert darauf, dass die Besucher im Badebereich nicht mit dem Handy hantierten. Es sicher zu verwahren, sei wichtig, es außerdem aufzuladen, durchaus charmant.

Die Akku-Brände beim Galaxy Note 7 fügten Samsung einen deutlichen Imageschaden zu. Umso mehr sah sich der Apple-Konkurrent gezwungen, die genauen Ursachen der Fehler zu nennen. Mit der Vorstellung des nächsten Spitzengeräts nehmen sich die Südkoreaner nun Zeit.Samsung zufolge waren es die Batterien, die zum Debakel mit dem Smartphone Galaxy Note 7 führten. Der Marktführer will die Untersuchung nutzen, um die Qualitätskontrolle bei Akkus und Geräten zu verbessern.

Für den Smartphone-Weltmarktführer steht viel auf dem Spiel. Die Einführung des nächsten Spitzenmodells könnte zeigen, wie sehr die Kunden dem Unternehmen noch vertrauen.

Was sind die Gründe für die Brände gewesen?Schon bei der ersten Rückrufaktion im vergangenen September nannte Samsung fehlerhafte Akkuzellen als wahrscheinliche Ursache für die Brände des Note 7. Dies bestätigte Samsung nun nach monatelangen eigenen Analysen sowie Überprüfungen durch drei unabhängige Industrie-Organisationen. Demnach traten die Defekte sowohl beim Design als auch bei der Herstellung der Batterien auf.

Wie kommt es aber, dass auch die Akkus der Ersatzgeräte Feuer fingen?Beim Batterietyp des ersten Zulieferers verursachte ein Designfehler einen Kurzschluss, der dann wiederum dazu führte, dass sich die Akkus erhitzten oder dass Brände ausgelöst wurden. Beim zweiten Typ führten laut

Samsung die Defekte in einem anderen Teil des Produkts zu ähnlichen Ergebnissen. Die Fehler seien entstanden, "weil wir für das Note 7 mit mehren Funktionen stärkere Akkus brauchten, und die Batterie-Hersteller wandten neue Produktionsmethoden an", sagte Spartenchef Koh Dong Jin.

Warum veröffentlicht Samsung den ausführlichen Ursachen-Bericht? Samsung geriet durch das Debakel stark unter Druck, die genauen Ursachen zu benennen. Der Aufwand für die Untersuchungen, bei denen mehr als 200 000 Geräte geprüft worden sein sollen, zeigt auch, wie kompliziert die Suche nach der Fehlerquelle bei dem High-Tech-Gerät ist. Es ging dabei nicht nur um die Akkus, sondern auch um die Frage, ob es bei Hardware und Software des Gerätes ebenfalls Fehler gab. Das schloss Samsung jetzt aus. Die Firma ist gezwungen, offen mit den Problemen umzugehen, weil das nächste Smartphone-Spitzenmodell Galaxy S8 bereits in Entwicklung ist. Es kommt Samsung auch darauf an, verlorengegangenes Vertrauten der Kunden zurückzugewinnen.

Samsung will trotz des Debakels an der Note-Serie festhalten. Wann allerdings das nächste Phablet - eine Mischung aus Smartphone und Tabletcomputer - herauskommt, ist unklar. Auch zur Markteinführung der neuen Generationen der S-Reihe macht Samsung noch keine Angaben. Am Montag schloss Spartenchef Koh aus, dass das Galaxy S8 wie sonst üblich beim Mobile World Congress Ende Februar gezeigt wird. "Das Galaxy S8 wird ein Schlüsselprodukt für die Zukunft von Samsung Electronics sein", urteilte Analyst Lee Seung Woo vom Wertpapierhaus IBK Securties in Seoul. Es sei sehr wichtig für das Unternehmen, mögliche Produktprobleme auszuschließen. Samsung werde aber versuchen, beim Marketing aggressiv aufzutreten, prognostiziere Lee.

Wie will Samsung ähnliche Probleme in Zukunft vermeiden?Das Unternehmen kündigte strengere Sicherheitschecks ein. So gibt es einen Acht-Punkte-Plan für die Überprüfung von Batterien. Zu üblichen Maßnahmen wie Haltbarkeitsprüfungen sollen Lade- und Entladetests und hinzukommen. Daneben gründete das Unternehmen eine "Akku-Beratergruppe" mit externen Fachleuten.

Warum hat die Untersuchung so lange gedauert?Samsung hatte bei der Prüfung drei externe Unternehmen mit ins Boot geholt, darunter auch den TÜV Rheinland. Das Problem mit den Akkus aus Samsungs eigener Herstellung dürfte relativ schnell gefunden worden sein: Die Akkus waren zu groß geraten und hatten keinen Platz für eine Ausdehnung. Unter Druck wächst jedoch die Brandgefahr der Bauteile. Überraschend gerieten aber auch Ersatzakkus in Brand. Für sie hatte Samsung extra einen anderen Hersteller beauftragt, Amperex aus Hongkong. Amperex fuhr die Produktion unter großem Zeitdruck hoch - dabei soll es dann zu Herstellungsfehlern gekommen sein.

In einem Notebook stecken allerhand private Daten, wichtige Dokumente und Erinnerungen. Computerexperten raten immer wieder zu regelmäßigen Datensicherungen - auch wegen der Gefahr durch Wasserschäden. Doch längst nicht jeder legt regelmäßig Sicherungskopien an. Ob bei einem Flüssigkeitsschaden auch die Daten baden gehen, hängt vom Laptopmodell und der Ersten Hilfe danach ab.

"Festplatten sind meistens so gut geschützt, dass sie in fast allen Fällen keinen Schaden nehmen", sagt Stefan Ebelt vom Verein ReUse in Berlin. "Trifft aber genug Flüssigkeit auf eines der Bauelemente im Laptop, können diese einem Kurzschluss erliegen und sind defekt." Dann kann guter Rat teuer werden. "Einen Kurzschluss beziehungsweise die zerstörten Bauelemente zu finden und eventuell zu ersetzen, kann teilweise unmöglich sein", sagt Ebelt. "Den Technikern bleibt nichts Anderes übrig, als alle Komponenten im Notebook zu testen."

Das Malheur mit dem Wasserglas lässt sich zwar nicht rückgängig machen. Doch wenn der Rechner baden geht, kann man mit schneller Reaktion immerhin den Schaden begrenzen und Kurzschlüsse vermeiden, sagt Stefan Ebelt.Im ersten Schritt muss das Notebook vom Netz. Besser noch, man macht es komplett stromlos. Das heißt: Sofort ausschalten, Netzkabelstecker ziehen und - wenn möglich - den Akku entfernen.

Ist nur wenig Flüssigkeit über das Gerät gelaufen, sollte man es unbedingt gerade stehen lassen, rät Ebelt. Ist die Computerüberschwemmung größer, kann der Rechner vorsichtig gekippt werden, so dass die Flüssigkeit herauslaufen kann. Mit einem Handtuch oder Küchenpapier wird sichtbare und herauslaufende Flüssigkeit vorsichtig aufgesaugt.

Wer auf Nummer sicher gehen will, kann den Laptop trocknen - etwa auf der Heizung. Die Temperatur sollte aber auf keinen Fall über 40 Grad Celsius liegen.

Und auch danach kann sich noch Wasser zwischen einzelnen Bauteilen oder Kontakten befinden. Um Kurzschlüsse zu vermeiden, sollte der Rechner deswegen auf keinen Fall wieder angeschaltet werden. In einem Fachgeschäft für IT-Technik ist er vorerst besser aufgehoben. Elektrofachmärkte seien weniger geeignet, sagt Ebelt. Die Computer-Experten entscheiden dann, wie es weitergeht: Trocknung, Reinigung oder Reparatur? Je nachdem, wie viel Flüssigkeit und vor allem welches Getränk ausgeschüttet wurde, ist die Reparatur mehr oder weniger aufwendig. Klebrige Getränke wie Säfte oder Cola sind deutlich schwieriger zu entfernen als klares Mineralwasser. Wird ausgelaufene Milch nicht restlos beseitigt, kann das später übel riechen.

Neben Erster Hilfe in Sachen Schadensminimierung muss auch die Schadensregulierung angegangen werden. Ist der Laptop versichert oder gehört er Freunden, springt eventuell die Versicherung ein. Dann sollte man den Schaden schon vor der Reparatur dem Versicherer melden, rät Kathrin Jarosch vom Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft. "Schäden, die Sie selbst an Ihrem Laptop verursachen, können Sie über eine spezielle Laptopversicherung regulieren", erklärt die Expertin. Anders ist das, wenn das Getränk über den Computer eines Freundes oder Arbeitskollegen ausgekippt wurde. Dann springt die private Haftpflichtversicherung ein.

"Sie ersetzt den Wiederbeschaffungswert, also den Neupreis, den man heute für dieses Gerät bezahlen müsste. Die Haftpflichtversicherung zahlt dagegen nur den Zeitwert, etwa den heute erzielbaren Preis für das alte schadlose Gerät", sagt sie.

In wenigen Fällen könne die Reparatur nach einem Flüssigkeitsschaden sogar unter die Garantieleistungen fallen, sagt Lisa Högden. Ob das der Fall ist, könne am besten ein Fachgeschäft entscheiden, ergänzt Technikexperte Stefan Ebelt.

To enable High-Contrast mode in Windows 7, simply hit the key combination Left Shift + Left Alt + Print Screen and click Yes when asked to confirm. You can turn off High-Contrast mode by hitting the same combo.

High-Contrast mode will affect your desktop and most Windows programs, including the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox. Automatic updating apps from the likes of Adobe, Apple and Google may also be pinging the Internet to see if there are updates to your copies of Adobe Reader, Chrome browser or iTunes. To stop these silent power vampires before they start, prevent them from loading at boot time.

Uncheck messaging programs such as AOL Instant Messenger, Gtalk and Skype. You can always launch them manually if you want to use them.

Uncheck autoupdaters such as Adobe Update, Apple Update, Google Update and Java Autoupdater.

When you close the lid on your notebook and put it to sleep, the computer is still sending some power to the RAM and motherboard in order to keep the current session in memory so your system can wake quickly. Some newer lightweight notebooks such as the ASUS ZenBook UX31 have been designed to use little power during sleep, but most notebooks suck down quite a bit of juice unless they’re completely powered off.

Defragment your hard drive on a regular basis. If you run Windows 7’s Disk Defragmenter program every couple of weeks, your drive will spend less time spinning around looking for data.

Replace your hard drive with an SSD. Because they have no moving parts, SSDs use less power than hard drives. They also don’t need to be defragmented.

Add more RAM. Going from 2 to 4GB or 4 to 8GB of RAM should allow your computer to use less virtual memory and more physical memory, which means fewer hard drive accesses.

Windows 10 has a built-in, hidden battery report tool that can tell you everything you need to know about your laptop battery, including your battery life estimate and its capacity over time. Use this powercfg command to better understand your battery's health and optimize your computer's battery life.

In Hibernate mode, your notebook will save its memory to disk and completely power off, rather than just going to sleep. It will take nearly as long to wake from hibernation as it does to boot, but once it wakes, your session will be right where you left it.To make your computer hibernate on demand, simply click the arrow next to the Shutdown button and select Hibernate. If you do not see Hibernate available as an option, your computer does not support this mode.

If your computer supports hibernation, you may want to set it to hibernate every time you close the lid.

8. Disable Bluetooth.

If your notebook has Bluetooth, you’re probably not using it much. However, the radio is still sucking power, even when nothing is connected to it.

Type Network Connections into the text field in the Start Menu.

Right-click on the Bluetooth Network Connection > Disable.

9. Turn off Wi-Fi when not in use.

If you’re connected to the Internet via Ethernet, or if you’re working some place that has no wireless signal, you can save a lot of power by turning off your notebook’s Wi-Fi radio. Most notebooks have a Function key on the top of the keyboard that toggles Wi-Fi on or off, though some have a dedicated button or switch.

10. Minimize hard drive usage.

If your notebook has a 5,400- or 7,200-rpm hard drive, it’s sucking up a lot of juice just spinning that magnetic platter around. There are several ways to save power by minimizing disk activity.

2. Prevent scheduled tasks from running on battery power.

Your virus scanner and disk defragmenter, along with auto updates from the likes of Apple and Google, are scheduled to run themselves on a regular basis—often without your knowledge or consent. Set these tasks to run only on AC power so they don’t eat up precious juice running your hard drive, CPU and wireless while you’re unplugged.

Select Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler in the Control Panel.

3. Turn off backlit keyboards.

If your notebook has a backlit keyboard, it will certainly help you see keys in a dark room, but it’s also sucking juice out of your battery. You’ll save some power by turning off that light. Every notebook has its own way of enabling or disabling its keyboard backlight, but the method usually involves hitting a Function key on the top row of the keyboard.

4. Unplug all USB devices and remove all discs.

Every USB peripheral attached to your notebook is eating up power just by registering itself with the operating system. You can usually turn off backlighting by hitting the Function (FN) key and pressing a backlight key on the top row of your keyboard (some computers may not require you to hit the function key).

They're not pretty, but Windows 10's high-contrast themes can save some energy. They use black pixels, with white and yellow text, which is far more energy-efficient than bright white background. These themes are meant to help make it easier for you to see the display, but this is a nice benefit on the side.The Edge and Firefox browsers will automatically adapt to the high-contrast theme. Anything you have attached to your laptop is sucking a little bit of power. Whether you're syncing a phone, backing up your data or have a disc you just burned sitting in your DVD drive (yes, some people still have those), they all require power. Disconnect all of your extras to save a little juice.You could have programs running in the background that you don't even know about. Often, this is because these programs are set to launch when you boot up your laptop.

To see what runs at startup, go Task Manager > Startup. This tab is filled with programs that could be connecting to the internet, even when you didn't start them up yourself. If there's any app running automatically in the background that you don't need, click Disable to remove it from this list"

You may have your antivirus software set to automatically scan your laptop at the same time each week. That's a good idea, as it helps you keep your computer clean. But if the scans run while you're on battery power, you could lose quite a bit of juice. Depending on your antivirus program, you may be able to delay scheduled scans until you've plugged in your notebook. Alternatively, you should pick a time when you're likely to be near a wall socket.

Your screen backlight uses the most power of any component in your notebook, so you can save a lot of juice by turning it down to the lowest acceptable level. Damit passt es gut in den Rucksack oder eine Aktentasche. Die Peripherie klebt über Magnete am Tablet - Stift, Tastatur und Ladekabel schnappen an das Gehäuse und lassen sich mit etwas Widerstand wieder entfernen.

Ein weiterer Vorteil: Auf dem Tablet läuft ein vollwertiges Windows 10 Pro, mit dem man nicht nur mobile Apps wie beim Konkurrenten iPad Pro installieren kann, sondern auch vollwertige Programme. Sogar einige neuere Spiele wie "Overwatch" laufen auf dem Testgerät - allerdings nur mit reduzierten Grafikeinstellungen.

Für einen Flugzeugtisch ist das Tablet mit Tastatur etwas zu groß. Als Alternative überzeugt hier allerdings die Bedienung mit dem Surface Pen: Auch eine krakelige Handschrift wird fast problemlos erkannt. Passt mal ein Wort nicht, streicht man es einfach durch.Spaß bringt auch das Zeichnen von Folien auf dem Skizzenblock - so kann man etwa Bildschirmfotos mit dem Stylus bearbeiten oder mit Kommentaren versehen und auf Notizzetteln wichtige Dinge festhalten.

Das Surface Pro macht trotz seiner kompakten Form nur wenige Kompromisse. Leistung und Alltagstauglichkeit lassen keine Wünsche offen. Das Convertible ist leicht und leise und hält mit einer Akkuladung deutlich länger durch als sein Vorgänger - hier hat Microsoft ordentlich nachgebessert. Das lässt sich der Konzern mit Preisen von bis zu über 3000 Euro allerdings vergolden. Wer es nicht so klein braucht oder auch ohne vollwertiges Windows auskommt, fährt mit vielen Tablets ähnlich gut, aber deutlich günstiger.

Wer im Urlaub fotografiert, packt ins Gepäck am besten mehrere kleine Speicherkarten. Dann sind wenigstens nicht alle Bilder weg, falls eines der Speichermedien kaputt geht oder verloren wird, erläutert die Zeitschrift "c't" (Ausgabe 13/2017).Und auch wenn man die Bilder schon auf eine Speicherplatte gezogen hat, sollte man sie nicht von der Kamera-Speicherkarte löschen. Das bietet zusätzliche Sicherheit, falls das andere Speichermedium wegkommt.

Wollen Reisende keinen Laptop mitnehmen, können sie Fotos unterwegs auch anders sichern: Wer große Datenmengen verschieben will, kann sie auf eine externe Festplatte mit SD-Kartenleser und Akku speichern.Auch das Smartphone kann ein geeigneter Speicherplatz sein, wenn es den UBS-Host-Modus unterstützt. Dann braucht man zusätzlich eine Speicherkarte, einen Kartenleser und ein USB-OTG-Adapter (On The Go). Die Kombination sollte man vor dem Urlaub aber testen, rät "c't".

Alternativ kann man die Kamera direkt über ein USB-Kabel an das Smartphone anschließen. Allerdings ist die Sicherung gut aufgelöster Kamerabilder aufgrund der Datengröße dann oft langwierig: Laut der Zeitschrift ist eine USB-Verbindung zum Smartphone meist langsam und eine WLAN-Verbindung noch langsamer.

Per Smartphone bereits aufgenommene Bilder haben hingegen oft wenig Megabyte - solche Fotos kann man also zum Beispiel über ein Hotel-WLAN problemlos in einen Cloud-Dienst schicken. Von acht solchen Diensten, die "c't" getestet hat, waren sechs kostenlos. Der Speicherplatz variierte dabei von zwei Gigabyte bis unbegrenzt.

Eine kleine Unachtsamkeit mit großen Folgen: Kippt man aus Versehen ein Getränk in den Laptop, drohen schwere Schäden am Gerät. Aber was kann man noch tun, wenn der Rechner baden geht?Der Schreckmoment für jeden Notebookbesitzer: Eine hektische Bewegung, die Hand stößt gegen das Wasserglas neben dem Computer - und das kippt in elegantem Bogen über die Tastatur. Alles ist nass, Panik kommt auf. Was kann man jetzt noch tun?

Cookies sind schlecht: Viele Internetseiten informieren ihre Besucher, dass sie Cookies verwenden. Für einige Nutzer klingt das wie eine Warnung. Tatsächlich sind diese Cookies oft aber nichts anderes als eine Art Lesezeichen und können für den Benutzerkomfort wichtig sein. "Bei einem Online-Shop merkt sich das System so zum Beispiel die Produkte im Warenkorb", erklärt Prof. Pohlmann. In vielen Fällen sind die Cookies sogar unbedingt notwendig. Wer eine Speicherung ablehnt, kann sie über die Browser-Einstellungen löschen.

Google weiß immer, wo man ist: Wird am Smartphone der Standortzugriff aktiviert, erfahren die Diensteanbieter aller Apps mit entsprechender Berechtigung, wo man sich aufhält. Dazu gehört bei Android-Smartphones natürlich auch Google - so wie Apple bei iPhones. Das BSI empfiehlt Nutzern zu prüfen, wie transparent Anbieter mit ihren Daten umgehen, und Einstellmöglichkeiten zu nutzen. "Bei Google kann die Nutzung über das Dashboard angezeigt und eingeschränkt werden", nennt Tim Griese ein Beispiel. Der Standortzugriff kann aber auch einen klaren Nutzen haben, etwa bei Wetter-Apps, oder gar unerlässlich sein wie bei Navigations-Anwendungen.

Man wird über seine Webcam beobachtet: Per Malware können Angreifer tatsächlich die Kameras von Geräten übernehmen. "Die Schadsoftware ist auch in der Lage, die LED zur Erkennung der Nutzung zu deaktivieren", sagt Tim Griese. Da die meisten Nutzer ihre Webcam ohnehin selten verwenden, ist das Abkleben eine gute Strategie.

Die Spionier-Gefahr besteht auch bei Smartphones, Tablets oder Smart-TVs. "Das Zukleben ist hier aber in der Regel unpraktisch", ergänzt Scherschel. Entsprechend inkonsequenter seien hier die Nutzer, obwohl theoretisch die gleiche Gefahr besteht. Scherschel rät in allen Sicherheitsfragen grundsätzlich: "Dem Nutzer sollte nicht alles egal sein. Er sollte aber auch nicht paranoid werden."

Mit der neuesten Ausführung des Surface Pro tritt Microsoft gegen Apples und Samsungs High-End-Tablets, aber auch gegen vollwertige Notebooks an. Ein schwieriger Spagat, der aber erstaunlich gut gelingt. Wenn da nicht ein paar kleine Details wären.Das soll also die Zukunft von Laptops sein: ein Tablet, dazu eine Anstecktastatur, eventuell noch eine Maus oder ein Stift. "Vielseitiger Laptop" nennt Microsoft sein neues Surface Pro.

Beim Surface Pro handelt es sich um ein sogenanntes Convertible, das mit Tastatur inklusive Trackpad erst zum Laptop wird. Äußerlich hat sich beim fünften Surface Pro im Vergleich zum Vorgänger kaum etwas verändert. Auf der Vorderseite ist ein 12,3 Zoll großer Bildschirm mit einer Auflösung von 2736 mal 1824 Pixeln.Anschlüsse gibt es je einmal für USB 3.0, Micro-SD-Karte und Mini-DisplayPort, hinzu kommt eine 3,5-Millimeter-Kopfhörerbuchse. Für Strom- und Tastaturanschluss setzt Microsoft auf eigene Schnittstellen. USB-C sucht man nach wie vor vergeblich.

Im Inneren des Tablets ist allerdings viel passiert - vor allem bei der Akkulaufzeit. Kam das Surface Pro 4 gerade mal vier bis fünf Stunden mit einer Ladung aus, schafft das aktuelle Modell unter normaler Arbeitslast locker sieben bis acht Stunden. Microsoft spricht gar von 12,5 Stunden Videowiedergabe mit einer Akkuladung.

Die günstigeren Modelle mit Intel-Core-m3- und i5-Prozessoren kommen ohne aktive Lüftung aus. Das macht die Rechner quasi lautlos. Beim großen i7-Prozessor pusten unter hoher Last die Lüfter - jedoch angenehm leise. Die Lautsprecher schaffen es außerdem, die Lüftungsgeräusche gut zu übertönen.Das Surface Pro gibt es in sechs verschiedenen Ausführungen: Angefangen bei einem Intel Core m3 mit 128 Gigabyte (GB) SSD-Festplatte und 4 GB RAM für 949 Euro bis hin zur Ausstattung mit i7, 1 Terabyte (TB) Speicher und 16 GB RAM für satte 3099 Euro.

Für Tastatur und Zeichenstift werden Kunden extra zur Kasse gebeten. Der beim Vorgänger noch enthaltene Surface Pen kostet rund 110 Euro, die Tastatur rund 180 Euro. Bei letzterer hat sich auch im Design etwas getan: Sie ist mit sogenanntem Alcantara überzogen. Dieser Überzug hinterlässt schon beim Auspacken einen bleibenden Eindruck: Das wildlederartige Material hat einen stark chemischen Geruch, der auch nach einer guten Woche Nutzung noch nicht vollständig verflogen ist.
