Im Firefox-Browser ist zum zweiten Mal in dieser Woche eine gefährliche Sicherheitslücke geschlossen worden. Nutzer müssen erneut darauf achten, dass bei ihnen die aktuellste Version (67.0.4) installiert ist und das Update gegebenenfalls selbst anstoßen. Das funktioniert beides unter "Hilfe/Über Firefox".

Wie schon bei der ersten handelt es sich auch bei der neuerlichen Schwachstelle offenbar um eine sogenannte Zero-Day-Sicherheitslücke, die bereits von Angreifern ausgenutzt wird – auch in Kombination mit der vorangegangenen Schwachstelle, um Schadsoftware auf dem System auszuführen.

Erst am Vortag hatte Mozilla wegen einer kritischen Sicherheitslücke ein Update für den Firefox-Browser veröffentlicht. Auch weil die Schwachstelle offenbar bereits ausgenutzt wird, sollten Nutzer des Browsers so schnell wie möglich auf die sichere Version aktualisieren, rät Entwickler Mozilla. Die Sicherheitslücke ermögliche es Angreifern, einen Absturz des Rechners zu provozieren und bei dieser Gelegenheit Schadsoftware auf dem System auszuführen.

Wie bereits angekündigt, beginnt Microsoft im Juni mit der zwangsweisen Verteilung seines neuen Windows-Updates für Anwender, die noch eine alte Version von Windows 10 nutzen. Hintergrund ist, dass der Support für Windows 1803 am 12. November 2019 ausläuft. Um die Sicherheit und Funktionsweise der PCs zu gewährleisten, sollen diese und ältere Systeme durch das neue Windows 1903 ersetzt werden.

Windows 1803 wurde im April 2018 veröffentlicht und ist damit gut ein Jahr alt. In der Zwischenzeit hat Microsoft zwei weitere Funktions-Updates herausgebracht: eines im Herbst 2018, das andere am 21. Mai dieses Jahres.

Nutzer konnten das Update bislang manuell anstoßen oder hinauszögern. Für PCs, die noch immer mit der Windows-Version aus den Vorjahren laufen, soll die Aktualisierung bald aber erzwungen werden. Nur so könne sichergestellt werden, dass sie nach dem 12. November weiterhin mit Sicherheitsupdates versorgt werden, erklärt Microsoft auf einer Support-Seite.

Welche Systeme das Zwangs-Update brauchen und gefahrlos aktualisiert werden können, soll demnach mit Hilfe eines maschinellen Lernprozesses festgestellt werden. Die Nutzer müssen also nicht selbst aktiv werden, können den Prozess aber auch nicht beeinflussen oder hinauszögern. Ab Herbst sollen solche Aktualisierungen für Nutzer der neuesten Windows-Version deutlich schneller ablaufen, verspricht Microsoft. Denn künftig will der Konzern die großen Funktions-Updates häppchenweise ausliefern und nicht mehr als Gesamtpaket. Statt also den Rechner zwei Mal im Jahr für längere Zeit außer Gefecht zu setzen, werden Monat für Monat kleinere Wartungsarbeiten durchgeführt.

Die neuen Funktionen können schon vorab im Zuge des Windows Insider Programms getestet werden. Hier erklären wir, wie man daran teilnimmt und welche Vor- und Nachteile das mit sich bringt.In den sozialen Medien überraschte Microsoft unterdessen mit einer rätselhaften Ankündigung. Und wie verfährt man mit Smartphones oder Tablets , die abgegeben werden sollen? Die Geräte auf die Werkseinstellungen zurücksetzen, genügt jedenfalls nicht, um den Speicher sicher zu löschen, warnt das BSI. Damit keine Daten wiederhergestellt werden können, sollte in den Einstellungen des Mobilgerätes – falls noch nicht geschehen – die Datenverschlüsselung aktiviert werden. Danach führt ein Zurücksetzen des Smartphones oder Tablets dazu, dass keine Daten mehr ausgelesen werden können.

Unterstützt das Mobilgerät keine Verschlüsselung, sollten die Daten erst einmal gelöscht werden. Danach gilt es, den Speicher randvoll zu schreiben – etwa durch das Filmen einer weißen Wand, rät das BSI. Private Gespräche sollte man dabei allerdings nicht führen, weil mit dem Video ja auch Ton aufgezeichnet wird. Danach löscht man den Speicher erneut und setzt das Smartphone auf die Werkseinstellungen zurück.

Viele kabellose Tastaturen und Mäuse der Firma Logitech weisen Sicherheitslücken auf: Die Geräte sind über Funk angreifbar. Das berichtet das Fachmagazin "c't".

Durch die Sicherheitslücken sei es möglich, jede Tastatureingabe auszulesen und so beispielsweise Passwörter abzufangen. Angreifer könnten aber auch die Kontrolle über die Tastatur übernehmen und sogar selbst Befehle eingeben. So ließe sich der Rechner leicht mit Schadsoftware infizieren. Um die Angriffe durchzuführen, brauchen Hacker allerdings zumindest kurzzeitig physischen Zugriff auf die Tastatur und USB-Empfänger.

Schuld sind mehrere Schwachstellen in dem von Logitech eingesetzten Funkstandard. Der Sicherheitsforscher Marcus Mengs hatte diese aufgedeckt und der c't gemeldet. Von dem Problem betroffen sind alle kabellosen Logitech-Geräte, die mit einem Unifying-USB-Empfänger arbeiten. Man erkennt die USB-Stecker an einem kleinen orangefarbenen Stern-Symbol.

Logitech setzt seit 2009 auf diese spezielle Funktechnik und stattet Mäuse, Tastaturen und sogenannte Wireless Presenter damit aus. Der einheitliche Standard soll garantieren, dass Nutzer bis zu sechs verschiedene Eingabegeräte mit ein und demselben Empfänger kombinieren können.

Die unter der Kategorie "Unterhaltung" gelistete App "Windows 1.11" soll Nutzer in Nostalgie schwelgen lassen und eine Netflix-Serie bewerben. Das Rätsel um "Windows 1.0" ist gelöst: Nachdem Microsoft in der Vorwoche sein "völlig neues" Betriebssystem in den Sozialen Medien beworben und damit Verwirrung ausgelöst hatte, hat jetzt eine neue App im Microsoft Store Einzug gehalten, die tatsächlich Ähnlichkeiten mit dem allerersten Windows aufweist.

Knapp 80 Sicherheitslücken geschlossen

Daneben hat Microsoft mit den aktuellen Patches knapp 80 Sicherheitslücken für verschiedene Produkte geschlossen. Als eine Schwachstelle für Windows 10 1903 listet Microsoft CVE-2019-0865. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Lücke in der Verschlüsselungsbibliothek SymCrypt und betrifft hauptsächlich Windows Server. Angreifer können die Lücke ausnutzen, um Windows-Systeme abzuschalten.

"heise online" nennt als eine besonders gefährliche Lücke CVE-2019-1113. Die Schwachstelle findet sich im sogenannten Net Framework: Angreifer können mit ihrer Hilfe einen beliebigen Code auf dem Rechner ausführen und im schlimmsten Fall den Computer übernehmen.

Auch die Lücke CVE-2019-0880 wurde geschlossen. Sie wird als schwer eingestuft und wurde bereits ausgenutzt. Die Schwachstelle findet sich in der Datei splwow64.exe und erlaubt Angreifern, sich höhere Rechte zu verschaffen. Die Lücke wurde durch einen Google-Mitarbeiter entdeckt und ist Microsoft seit März bekannt. Sie hätte ursprünglich schon im Juni behoben werden sollen. Da das nicht geschah, wurde sie damals öffentlich gemacht.

Anscheinend sei die Festplatte vor dem Verkauf nicht gelöscht worden .

Wer nicht möchte, dass private Daten in die Hände von Unbekannten gelangen, sollte alle Daten auf alten Notebooks richtig löschen – ehe sie verkauft oder verschenkt werden.Klassische Festplatten (HDD) mit rotierenden Speicherscheiben lassen sich mithilfe spezieller Programme wie etwa DBAN hinreichend sicher löschen, wenn man die HDD von der Software sieben Mal überschreiben lässt, erklärt das Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI).

Bisherige Computer-Programme hatten sich auf das Besiegen eines einzelnen Gegners beim Pokern beschränkt – darunter die Software "Libratus" von Brown und Sandholm sowie das Programm "DeepStack" eines Entwickler-Teams von der University of Alberta in Edmonton (Kanada). Diese Poker-Variante mit zwei Spielern wird als "Heads-up no-limit Texas hold'em" bezeichnet. Nach Angaben der Forscher stellen Spiele mit mehr als zwei Teilnehmern jedoch höhere Anforderungen an den Computer. Brown und Sandholm entwickelten deshalb eine Software mit dem Namen "Pluribus", die die Komplexität der Spielsituation reduzieren soll.

"Pluribus" wurde zunächst erprobt und trainiert, indem es "No Limit Texas Hold'em" gegen fünf Kopien von sich selbst spielte. Später ließen die Forscher die Software in zwei Varianten gegen Menschen antreten: In der ersten Variante spielte der Computer gegen fünf professionelle Poker-Cracks. In der zweiten Variante spielte ein Mensch gegen fünf virtuelle Spieler. In beiden Konstellationen setzte sich der Computer signifikant öfter durch. Unter den geschlagenen Poker-Profis waren unter anderem der Rekord-Titelträger der World Poker Tour, Darren Elias, und der sechsfache Turniersieger der World Series of Poker, Chris Ferguson.

Die Entwicklung der KI hat sich in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten immer wieder in spektakulären Wettkämpfen "Mensch gegen Computer" niedergeschlagen. Vor über 20 Jahren besiegte das Programm "Deep Blue" den früheren Schachweltmeister Garri Kasparow. Vor drei Jahren war eine Software erstmals beim traditionellen asiatischen Brettspiel Go überlegen. Und vor zwei Jahren dann siegten Computerprogramme für Poker-Partien mit nur zwei Spielern.

Wozu die Forschung in diesem Bereich noch dienen kann

Die KI-Forschungen mit Spielen wie Schach, Go oder Poker dienen letztlich auch der Entwicklung von kommerziell verwertbaren Algorithmen, etwa in der Entwicklung von Medikamenten oder der idealen Strategie bei der Versteigerung von Mobilfunklizenzen.

"Es ist natürlich eine schöne Umgebung, in der man leicht demonstrieren kann, dass man mit KI Fortschritte erzielt", sagte Andreas Hotho von der Universität Würzburg, der nicht an der Studie beteiligt war. Spiele seien letztlich aber eher ein Anwendungsgebiet von KI, die KI-Entwicklung laufe unabhängig von den sogenannten Games weiter. Bedeutend seien zum Beispiel die Verbesserung neuronaler Netze und des sogenannten Deep Learnings. Hierbei handelt es sich um Verfahren, bei denen Computer mithilfe von Algorithmen und großen Datenmengen das Lernen lernen.

"Die Arbeit ist solide und die Leistungen sind technisch sehr beeindruckend – vor allem, was die Rechenleistung und die Rechenzeit betrifft", sagte Andreas Holzinger vom Institut für Medizinische Informatik/Statistik an der Medizinischen Universität Graz über die Studie. "Aber es bringt wieder die Frage auf, ob "Künstliche Intelligenz" tatsächlich mit menschlicher Intelligenz überhaupt vergleichbar ist oder sein kann und ob es gut ist, überhaupt von "superhuman' zu sprechen. Menschliche Intelligenz hat vielfältige Qualitäten – eben nicht nur in einer eng begrenzten Aufgabenstellung."

Am Dienstag veröffentlichte Microsoft ein monatliches Update für Windows 10 und andere Produkte. Dabei behebt der Konzern laut eigenen Angaben einige Fehler und schließt knapp 80 Sicherheitslücken – darunter auch kritische.

Sandbox zeigt immer noch Fehlermeldung

Unter anderem behebt der neue Patch ein Darstellungsproblem bei Windows-Mixed-Reality-Headsets und einen Fehler mit BitLocker, eine Software für Festplattenverschlüsselung für Microsoft.

Microsofts Windows ist auch in Deutschland mit 45,6 Prozent das mit Abstand meistverbreitete Betriebssystem auf Desktop-Rechnern und Notebooks. Aktuell ist der 10-jährige Oldtimer Windows 7 noch auf fast jedem vierten genutzten Desktop-PC aktiv (24,2 Prozent), das aktuelle Windows 10 nutzen derweil zwei Drittel der Windows-Nutzer (66,3 Prozent).

Am 22. Oktober 2009 brachte Microsoft Windows 7 als Nachfolger des erfolglosen Windows Vista auf den Markt. Damals sah die digitale Welt noch etwas anders aus als heute: Erst zwei Jahre gab es damals das iPhone im Markt, das die Ära des Smartphones eingeläutet hatte. 2009 brachte dann auch Google sein erstes Android-Smartphone "G1" auf den deutschen Markt.

Windows 8 überzeugte Nutzer nicht

Bereits im Januar 2009 bewarb der einstige Microsoft-Chef Steve Ballmer zur Eröffnung der Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas eine erste Beta-Version von Windows 7 – zu sehr saß der Misserfolg von Vista dem Konzern im Nacken. Auch der Nachfolger Windows 8 kam mit Startschwierigkeiten und überzeugte viele Nutzer nicht. Vor allem in vielen Unternehmen dürfte deshalb Windows 7 noch bis heute im Einsatz sein.

Heute hat Microsoft mit seiner aktuellen Version Windows 10 wieder eine solide Software-Basis geschaffen, die Flops Vista und Windows 8 sind längst Geschichte. Nur wenige Wochen nach dem Verkaufsstart war das System laut Microsoft bereits über 100 Millionen Mal heruntergeladen worden. Demnach entdeckten auch Unternehmenskunden das System. Das Potenzial der Software etwa mit der digitalen Assistentin Cortana, dem neuen Browser Edge und der Unterstützung für Touch-Funktionen hatte Microsoft seither auch mit seiner ersten eigenen Laptop-Reihe, dem Surface Book, unter Beweis gestellt. Nostalgiker, Tüftler und Windows-7-Liebhaber müssen dennoch keinen Kulturschock befürchten. In Fachmagazinen gibt zum Beispiel Tipps, wie man mit zusätzlichen Werkzeugen dem neuen Windows 10 lieb gewonnene Gadgets und das Startmenü verpassen und dem neuen Rechner damit ein Retro-Outfit geben kann.

Wer seinen Rechner auf die aktuelle Version von Windows 10 aktualisieren wollte, konnte vom System daran gehindert werden, wenn ein USB-Stick eingesteckt war. Jetzt hat Microsoft das Problem behoben. Microsoft hat ein bekanntes Problem bei Windows 10 gelöst: Jetzt kann der Rechner auch auf das Mai-Update aktualisiert werden, wenn ein USB-Stick oder eine SD-Karte in den Rechner eingesteckt ist. Externes Laufwerk schuld

Grund für den Fehler war laut Microsoft eine "unangemessenen Laufwerkszuordnung", wenn während der Installation des Mai-2019-Updates ein USB-Stick oder eine SD-Karte angeschlossen war. Das Problem konnte auch bei intern angeschlossenen Laufwerken auftreten.

Kein Bluff: Zum ersten Mal hat eine Computer-Software in Poker-Partien mit mehr als zwei Spielern öfter gewonnen als ihre menschlichen Gegner. Das Programm "Pluribus" von den Forschern Noam Brown und Tuomas Sandholm setzte sich bei über 10.000 gespielten Händen in der Poker-Variante "No Limit Texas Hold'em" mit insgesamt sechs Spielern häufiger durch als echte Poker-Cracks.

Jedoch klagen Nutzer nach dem Update über ein neues Problem: Im Benachrichtigungscenter wird ständig angezeigt, das System neu zu starten – auch, wenn das bereits geschehen ist. Das berichtet "heise online".
Laut "heise online" könnte es sich um eine Art Darstellungsproblem handeln. Um den Fehler zu beheben, haben Nutzer verschiedene Möglichkeiten. Unter anderem kann es helfen, auf die Neustart-Meldung in der Taskleiste zu drücken, statt das System im Startmenü neu zu starten. Eine andere Möglichkeit ist, manuell nach neuen Updates zu suchen.

Laut "heise online" könnte das Problem sich auch von selbst lösen: Da Windows regelmäßig selbst nach neuen Updates sucht, wird die Neustart-Benachrichtigung danach automatisch entfernt.In wenigen Tagen endet der Support für Windows 7. Ab dem 14. Januar 2020 stellt Microsoft den Support für das Windows 7 ein. Dann wird es keine Software- oder Sicherheitsupdates mehr geben. Nutzer, die weiter an dem betagten System festhalten, riskieren dabei, sich ungeschützt Cyberangriffen und Schadsoftware auszusetzen.

Sicherheitsexperten raten dringend davon ab, das betagte Betriebssystem weiter zu nutzen. Microsoft empfiehlt schon seit Jahren, sich auf einen Systemwechsel vorzubereiten und gibt Tipps für den Umstieg auf das aktuelle Windows 10. Das sei ohnehin das "sicherste Windows aller Zeiten", betont das Unternehmen.

Zwar hatte Microsoft nach dem Marktstart von Windows 10 das Upgrade von Windows 7 und 8 für geraume Zeit kostenlos ins Netz gestellt. Dieses Angebot ist allerdings seit zwei Jahren ausgelaufen. Seither bietet Microsoft das System ab rund 145 Euro zum Herunterladen an. Einige Fachmedien geben jedoch auch Hinweise, wie Nutzer selbst heute noch kostenlos auf das aktuelle System wechseln können, indem sie etwa das "Media Creation Tool" auf der Website von Microsoft herunterladen. Allzu große Aufregung sollte – anders als bei Windows XP – das Aus von Windows 7 jedoch nicht verursachen. "Unsere Kunden haben aus der Situation bei Windows XP gelernt", sagt Sabine Bendiek, Chefin von Microsoft Deutschland. "Wer sich frühzeitig mit dem Umstieg beschäftigt, minimiert Risiken und Kosten und profitiert von aktuellen Sicherheitsfunktionen und Innovationen."

Microsoft hat einen Fehler in Windows 10 bestätigt. Dieser tritt auf, wenn Nutzer mit dem Systemdatei-Überprüfungsprogramm "sfc /scannow" das System prüfen lassen. "heise online" schreibt dazu, dass das Systemdatei-Überprüfungsprogramm an sich korrekt funktioniert und der Fehler durch den Aktualisierungsmechanismus des Windows Defender entstanden ist.

Was kann ich gegen zu große Hitze tun?

Eine der größten Gefahren für Festplatten neben Erschütterung ist Überhitzung. Daher muss man gerade im Sommer besonders gut aufpassen, dass man seine Festplatte nicht der prallen Sonne aussetzt. Hitze sorgt nämlich für einen "Headcrash", bei dem die Speicherschicht beschädigt wird.

Es empfiehlt sich, Festplatten im Büro oder in Autos nie in der Sonne liegen zu lassen. Außerdem sollte man die Raumtemperatur kontrollieren und für ausreichend Luftbewegung sorgen. Eine Temperatur von 30 Grad sollte nicht überschritten werden.

Von dem bekannten Mythos, seine Festplatte im Kühlschrank oder Eisfach runterzukühlen, rät Bindig stark ab: "Das führt immer zu einer Vergrößerung des Schadens. Das Risiko sollte man nicht eingehen." Doch woher kommt der Mythos? "Bei irgendwem hat das halt mal funktioniert, und dann hat sich das verbreitet", vermutet Bindig. Auch Kunden, die ihre Festplatte in den Backofen gesteckt haben, hatte er schon.

Wer die Einbindung seines Benutzeraccounts in Microsofts Cloud-Dienste verhindern möchte, sollte während der Installation beim Anlegen des Kontos die etwas versteckte Option "Benutzer ohne Microsoft-Konto" wählen. Nach der Installation und jedes Mal nach größeren Windows-Versionsupdates empfiehlt es sich, ein Tool wie "O&O ShutUp10" auszuführen, das in seiner Standardeinstellung die meisten Schnüffelfunktionen von Windows 10 abstellt.

Mit der neuen Windows-Version erhalten Nutzer die Möglichkeit, Updates zu pausieren und auf später zu verschieben. Aber darf man die Funktion guten Gewissens nutzen? Nutzer können die Update-Pause höchstens fünf Mal erneuern. Spätestens nach 35 Tagen muss der Computer aktualisiert werden. So verhindert Microsoft, dass Nutzer automatische Aktualisierungen auf den Sankt Nimmerleinstag verschieben. Wer ein anderes Datum bevorzugt oder gleich den maximalen Zeitrahmen von 35 Tagen auskosten will, wechselt zum Dialog "Erweiterte Optionen" und scrollt nach unten bis zum Abschnitt "Updates aussetzen". Dort lässt sich in einem Dropdown-Menü ein beliebiges Datum im maximal möglichen Zeitfenster auswählen.

Übrigens: Der Malware-Schutz durch den Windows Defender ist von der Update-Pause ausgenommen und wird weiterhin aktualisiert. Das ist auch sinnvoll. Denn wie der aktuelle Sicherheitsbericht von AV-Test belegt, werden Windows-Schadprogramme laufend fortentwickelt. Dementsprechend müssen auch die Virenscanner immer auf dem neuesten Stand sein, um sie zu erkennen abzuwehren.
